One of his close advisors cautiously said. "Your Grace, arresting Johann and his allies might incite further unrest. They have considerable support among the nobility."

"Do you think I don't know that? But we cannot afford to show weakness. Doing nothing will only encourage them and others who might think of challenging us."

He turned to his loyal knights. "Mobilize our most trusted soldiers and go arrest them."

With the order being issued, the loyal knights present begin to excuse themselves from the room.

Though the movement within the mansion wasn't large, it was enough to attract a lot of eyes toward them and spark speculations.

Whispers quickly spread among the staff.

Among them, there's naturally a spy planted by Johann, Demin and Betto.

Say, which nobles are not spying on each other?

Knowing secrets was currency in the power struggles that defined their lives.

No piece of information can be truly hidden. It was merely a question of who was willing to dig deep enough to uncover it.

Right now, the knights were fully aware that they needed to outpace any spies who might inform their masters.

Percival also knows this and simultaneously orders the butler to restrict the movement of servants in the mansion.

The butler immediately summoned the senior staff and gave them strict instructions.

"No one can leave the mansion without permission. Anyone caught attempting to send messages outside will face severe consequences."

Nevertheless, despite these measures, an outlier always exists.

One inconspicuous maid manages to slip up through a lesser-used servants' entrance and rush to Johann's mansion.

....

"Bad news! Percival's knights are coming here," Dunn burst into the room.

"Percival's knights? What do they want? Arrest me?" Johann asked.

"What else? I got the news from your informant. Not only you, Demin and Betto were also on the list."

Johann laughed heartily. "Hahaha, that's good. Demin and Betto receiving the same treatment as me? Now we're truly in cahoots."

Dunn, however, was not amused. "Don't laugh. What's your next move?"

Honestly, Dunn felt it was much easier to just assassinate Percival and complete his mission.

This fight had been dragging on for far too long and he was getting sick of it.

But the problem was Sarika, Percival's daughter and the rightful heir.

She was fiercely hostile toward Ryntum.

Killing Percival would only elevate her to power sooner.

"Let's escape," Johann said without a second thought. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

All the preparations are almost complete. Everything has been set up outside the estate.

Even if Johann abandons his mansion, his strength will not be affected.

As for Demin and Betto, Johann believed they were not fools and had likely done the same thing as he did.

This estate is practically Percival's domain. Opposing Percival is one thing; gathering resources for resistance within his domain is another.

"No," Dunn shook his head, "You escape while I'm staying here. I should be safe since they don't know about me. Moreover, you need someone to help you from inside."

Johann nodded understandably, "You're right. I should gather my trusted servants and escape with them. We'll meet later."

"...," Dunn didn't say anything.

To Johann, it was a reasonable excuse.

But Dunn actually trying to avoid meeting Demin and his son, Darren.

Dunn had contact with Darren before when he first started spreading rumours that somehow led to the current situation.

It's best not to arouse any suspicion and wholeheartedly stand on Johann's side.

Orders were relayed.

For the first time in a while, the entire mansion was in chaos.

Servants ran to and fro, preparing for the escape.

However, many were conflicted. Helping Johann meant going against the duke. But, the butler solves this problem by reminding them who paying their wage.

With everything in place, Johann and his loyal servants made their escape.

At the same time, Percival's knights arrived at the mansion.

"Halt! Don't move, Sir Johann," he shouted.

Johann, recognizing the inevitability of this encounter, reined in his horse and turned to face the knights.

"Tsk! Why don't you go and arrest the other two first?" he sarcastically asked.

As the main instigator of the rebellion, Johann obviously knew that he was their primary target.

The knights was unmoved by his taunt.

They simply rushed forward to intercept him.

"Men, hold them off!" Johann commanded his knights, who were already moving into position to create a defensive barrier.

A small skirmish erupted.

The clash of steel rang out in front of Johann's mansion.

Johann's knights were fewer in number. However, they fought with determination.

They knew their role was to stall for time, to ensure Johann's escape rather than to win this fight.

Amidst the fray, Johann spurred his horse onward, leading the rest of his loyal servants away from the skirmish.

They rode as fast as possible until the sounds of battle gradually faded into the distance.

Johann's heart pounded, not only from the exertion but also because they were nearing the main gate, the critical part of their escape plan.

As the gate came into view, Johann saw the blockade being set up by Percival's men.

Makeshift barriers and a small contingent of armed guards were positioned to intercept any escape attempt.

Johann smiled. The most worrisome thing in his mind dissipated.

The blockade has not been completed yet. They had a chance.

"Onward, everyone! Full speed!" Johann shouted, urging his horse forward.

His followers pushed their mounts to their limits. The horses' hooves thundered against the ground.

The blockade loomed larger, and the guards stationed there braced for impact.

Johann didn't slow down. Hesitation would spell disaster.

As they approached, the guards raised their weapons, prepared to stop the fleeing party by any means necessary.

"Keep moving!" Johann ordered.

Johann's knights moved ahead, forming a wedge to spearhead the defence.

Boom!

A collision happened. It was bloody but Johann doesn't care.

He spurred his horse forward, forcing his way past the guards and out beyond the gate.

He didn't look back and only thought of saving himself first.
