"We'll see," she replied. "So far, His Majesty hasn't made his stance clear about Cerdeauxia."

Reginald's expression becomes restless. "Surely, he wouldn't abandon his inheritance, right? He sponsored the royalist faction in the previous election."

Audrey shrugged, "I don't know. His Majesty rarely mentions his mother. Let's hope for the best."

If Reginald and his followers genuinely wished for His Majesty's rule, Audrey had nothing to say. But she couldn't shake the feeling that these people had a hidden agenda.

Regardless of their motive, it surely won't pose a problem to His Majesty.

Audrey does not believe His Majesty will let go of Cerdeuaxia. It's his inheritance through his mother.

Gaining this land will boost Ryntum's control over the sea and access to more trade routes.

Moreover, that thing called trains can be used to move goods and people from west to east easily.

She doesn't believe the king doesn't notice that.

Anyway, Audrey doesn't have anything else to talk to Reginald.

She finished her coffee and stood up, "It's time for me to leave. I'll contact you again once we receive the reply."

Reginald nodded, "Alright, Miss Bennett. Stay safe."

Audrey offered him a polite smile before walking out of the cafe. The hectic sounds of the city begin to knock her eardrum.

This time, she didn't sense the usual eyes following her.

She made her way back to her temporary residence.

It wasn't a long walk to reach the modest townhouse she had been using as her base.

As she stepped inside and closed the door behind her, she immediately noticed the presence of someone in the living room.

It's the agent responsible for her safety.

"Miss Bennett."

"Remy, did you get rid of them?"

"I only disabled them and threw them in some alleyway. Don't worry, I didn't kill them."

Audrey let out a small sigh of relief. "That's good. We shouldn't stir up more trouble, especially when we already have so much on our plate."

She walked over to the table in the room, where a stack of papers awaited her attention. "Anything new?"

"Nothing major, but there's been some movement among a few low-level officials behind closed doors. I'm still trying to piece together their plan. It's clear that they're up to something."

Is this related to the 'distraction' Reginald told her a moment ago?

She had a strong feeling that it did.

"Keep digging. Even though it doesn't concern us, it is worth knowing."

"Of course, miss. But there's one more thing. We've discovered a figure who seems to be controlling the president from the shadows. We're not entirely sure yet, but all evidence points toward a man named Acellin Celestia."

"What do we know about this man?"

"He's a wealthy merchant and a philanthropist. He's famous for his various charitable activities and donations."

"So, he's already built a good public image for himself."

"People indeed have a very positive view of him."

"Then he's the most suspicious one. Investigate him."

If one genuinely wishes to do good, they'll do it quietly, away from the public eye. The fact he needs to publicize his action suggests there's something he wants to hide.

As Remy takes his leaves, Audrey starts to write everything that transpires here. She plans to send it to Bideford as soon as possible.

....

Two months later,

On this particular day, the entire city of Bideford was on edge.

Despite Riz's best efforts to keep the news contained, word had spread like wildfire.

The queen was in labour.

Citizens gathered in the streets, whispering to one another. Their voices contain excitement and concern.

The capital held its breath, awaiting the news that would change everything.

Tap-

Tap-

Tap-

Inside his own residence, Riz couldn't hide his restlessness.

He kept glancing toward the door that led to the chamber where the queen was currently in.

Every few seconds, he would stop to listen for any sound from inside, and then resume his pacing.

He had no idea what was going on inside. His stepmother and his mother-in-law barred him from entering.

"Would you please calm down?" his father-in-law, Theodore, asked.

The old man sat leisurely in a nearby chair. He has gone through this before. Even so, he and his wife quickly depart for the capital when their daughter's due date is approaching.

Riz stopped his pacing for a moment, "You think I can?"

"Relax. Everything will be fine. Theodora's circumstances are much better than during the time her mother gave birth. She was surrounded by professionals and had access to advanced tools."

Riz wanted to believe him but only he knew the current medical equipment is nowhere near the modern time of Earth.

He resumed his pacing. This time, his steps were slower and less frantic.

However, his pacing stopped again when he heard Theodora's scream.

His heart skipped a beat and panic surged. He had a strong urge to enter but was quickly blocked by his father-in-law.

Theodore's hand was on Riz's chest, "You wouldn't be of any help in there. You'll only cause a commotion and make it harder for people inside to do their job. Why don't you go and cool your head?"

Riz shook off Theodore's hand. "It's okay. I'm fine."

"Then, take a seat. You're not the only one here who's anxious."

In the end, he followed Theodore's words.

Minutes felt like hours. The door remained closed and the waiting continued.

Occasional murmur of voices from inside reached him, but they were too faint to discern.

It's adding to the tension.

And then, suddenly, the shrill cry of a newborn shattered the silence.

Riz immediately stood up. His breath stuck in his throat.

Shortly after, another cry followed.

The door to the room creaked open. His mother-in-law, Fiona, emerges. Her face was flushed and glowing with a broad smile.

"Congratulations. It's a twin. A boy and a girl. Both babies are healthy."

"What about Theodora?"

"She's resting now due to exhaustion. Be careful not to disturb her."
