The delegation from Ryntum travelled back home smoothly. No problem occurred in their way, which is a bit unexpected.

Audrey thought the Cerdeauxian would play some trick on them, but nothing came on their way.

Passing across the border, they went westward, heading for the capital.

Along the journey, Audrey felt like she had been away for years rather than months.

Things were much different than she remembered.

Some time ago, she heard Cerdeauxian call Ryntum as 'a kingdom that never rests.'

Of course, Audrey doesn't know what they mean back then. But now...

Looking at many new buildings being erected, and the constructions that are taking place, she fully believes their words.

Of all things, the most conspicuous one is the construction of the railway Audrey heard so much about.

Now she saw the metal tracks glinting in the sun and stretching to the east.

This line will most likely accommodate the movement of people and goods from the western border to the eastern one.

Seeing the workers setting up rail ties and metal tracks, Audrey made up her mind.

Riding the train will be at the top of her to-do list once she returns.

....

While Audrey was on her way to the capital, another figure just landed at the port of Bideford.

It was none other than Hugo Hagen.

As soon as he was nominated as Blande's delegate, Hugo was hastily sent to the south under the strong urge of everyone.

He had no chance to escape or delay this matter.

Right after stepping off the gangway, he took a deep breath to calm himself down.

Although he was calm outside, Hugo was quite nervous.

He technically came here unannounced.

The time is too short to send someone to inform Ryntum's side.

He knows how busy the monarch is. The possibility of being rejected is high.

Hugo threaded his way through the bustling streets. His eyes caught glimpses of the Ryntum's prosperity in every corner.

After asking the passersby left and right, the directions he gathered all pointed toward the city centre.

That's where the central power of this kingdom is.

Hopefully, the king himself will be there.

If he could at least get a meeting arranged, it would be the first step toward ensuring his purpose wasn't an outright failure.

While at it, he took this chance to find accommodation as well.

After all, the negotiation will definitely take more than a few days. Maybe weeks to complete.

Since this is his first time here, Hugo doesn't know which place is good or bad. He needs to judge carefully.

As for the price, it doesn't matter to him. He's rich.

At the end of the day, Hugo found a decent-looking hotel. Words from locals say this place is good. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

Despite being only decent, their price is outrageous. They truly take full advantage of their strategic location.

Nevertheless, Hugo paid for the room.

On the next day, he wakes up early. He hardly slept anyway.

He knows the process of meeting a king is long and tedious.

It's the government after all. They're always slow for some reason.

The earlier he gets there, the earlier he can meet the king.

Stepping outside, he was greeted with Bideford's morning rush.

The streets leading to the government district were packed.

Hugo was swept into the crowds, which appeared to be moving in the same direction as him.

So, he didn't bother to separate himself and obediently followed them.

Things were organized here. The roads were wide and clean, with lampposts on both sides. The guards patrolled and managed the traffic.

However, Hugo only admired the scenery for a while. In front of him, the towering structure emerges.

He had arrived.

He entered and saw rows of clerks behind polished desks.

He approached one of them.

"Good morning, how can I help you?"

"Good morning! I'm Hugo Hagen, a delegate from Blande. I wish to seek an audience with His Majesty to discuss matters of utmost importance."

The clerk lady glances at him before jotting down his request.

She doesn't take Hugo's word to heart. There's no sense of urgency on her either.

Having heard the same things repeatedly, she's already immune to it. Just follow the procedure and move on.

"We'll process your request. However, you should know His Majesty is busy. So, we can't give you the exact answer or time."

Hearing this, Hugo slightly panics. "Is there anything I can do to speed things up?"

If the delay was too long, Ryntum might misinterpret Blande's attitude.

The clerk replied with a polite but firm tone. "I'm afraid not, sir."

Countless people asked her the same question.

"Very well," Hugo sighed. "Please process my request. I'll wait."

The clerk nodded, "Great! We'll inform you when there's an update."

Hugo left the premises, not knowing when he would be called.

Back inside the office, his request was already in motion.

It moved swiftly through the internal channels, passed from hand to hand by office staff.

In just a few hours, the request reached the desk of the royal secretary.

She looks at the paper, noting Hugo's origin from Blande. Her eyes lingered briefly on his name before setting it aside.

'This one required a bit more attention...' she inwardly said.

As a woman with a keen sense of political currents, the secretary roughly guesses Hugo's purpose.

The recent escalation on the sea is not a secret to her.

Picking up her pen, she quickly scanned the calendar to see the gaps in Riz's schedule.

She selected a slot two days from now. It should be enough time for both sides to prepare.

The secretary stamped the paper.

The request was approved!

This is one of her privileges being secretary— the ability to shorten the waiting time.

She handed it to her subordinate. And the paper began its journey back down the chain.

The staff will send someone to inform Hugo.

If he's absent, be prepared to wait in line for weeks.
