Return of The Alpha Heiress-Chapter 29: Clarissa – The Best Class
Oscar never could have imagined that he would be attacked by his own classmates, much less for having gone against me.
"Oscar still doesn’t realize what he and Fani did, does he?"
"He doesn’t realize he’s even more disgusting than everything he used to accuse Clarissa of."
"I regret ever thinking he was handsome and smart. Turns out he’s just a pathetic, empty-headed jerk."
"Of course he is. He dared bother Clarissa even after everything he’s been through."
"Sand Pack is also in trouble now because of him and Fani."
It felt surreal hearing everyone finally turn their backs on Oscar.
Oscar pulled his hoodie low, hunched over, and bolted out of the classroom.
Pathetic.
But he deserved it. Honestly, it was fortunate I didn’t ask someone to scratch his face the way Fani had scratched mine.
I exhaled softly. That was enough farewell drama for today.
After saying goodbye to Nadia, I turned toward the door—
"Done already?" Edwin appeared with his trademark smirk.
"What are you doing here?" I asked, startled. My classmates were just as surprised.
Edwin, the youngest son of Alpha Green, was well-known for his mischief. He cared little about maintaining the Green family’s pristine image, though that playful side of him only highlighted how intelligent he truly was.
Many admired him, even my classmates who were clearly older than him.
They were probably thanking me in their heads for bringing Edwin within close view.
"I saw Oscar sneaking around, so I followed him. In case he tried anything. Turns out his courage is smaller than a booger," Edwin said casually, ignoring the stunned looks around him.
"You expect too much from him," I replied, shaking my head.
"I was hoping to give him a second special gift if he caused trouble."
"As if he’d dare." I chuckled.
We stepped out of the classroom together. I still heard someone whisper behind us:
"Clarissa might be adopted, but standing next to Edwin like that... they really look like siblings."
They were right. I and the Green brothers resembled Luna Eileen.
Because of that, I felt a bit more at ease, even though my status was only the adopted daughter.
What happened in the faculty room, when Darren called me his biological sister, was only heard by a few.
After my hospital stay, Darren returned to academy and clarified that I was adopted; he only spoke that way earlier to show how serious he was about protecting me.
"Over here, Clar!" My thoughts broke off as Edwin tugged me away from a wrong turn.
The building for the best class of each grade stood separately from the regular class, exclusive to only three classes, one per year.
No regular student like me was allowed inside. Out of habit, my feet had almost turned toward the regular building next door.
From the outside, both buildings looked identical. Same size, same structure. But unlike regular classes, each best class had fewer than twenty students.
With so few students, they practically owned this entire building. No wonder they were rarely seen outside except during the ceremonies.
"The second-year class is on the second floor. Mine’s on the first. Want me to walk you to yours? We can take the lifter."
Edwin pointed to a metal door. Inside was the lifter. I tried my best to act like this was normal.
I had never seen an lifter up close before; the regular building didn’t have one.
"Go to your class, Edwin. I can go up on my own," I said.
He nodded. "Alright. Sister Shan and Adrian are in your class anyway. You’ll be fine."
I studied Edwin’s face. He looked... worried. Worried about me.
I reached up and ruffled his burgundy hair. "I’ll be fine. You don’t need to worry about me."
His cheeks flushed instantly. "I—I wasn’t worrying. I’m going now!"
He spun around and hurried away. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
Honestly, the more I looked at Edwin, the more adorable he became.
I chose the stairs instead. I had no idea how to use the lifter.
On the second floor, the first room directly in front of the stairs was the classroom.
I took a deep breath and entered.
The room was bright, spacious, and meticulously clean. The desks were generously spaced apart. The students —elite, all of them— turned to look at me.
Then, as if I had never arrived, they returned to what they were doing. Not surprised at all.
Which meant they already knew I was transferring. Understandable. After Adrian’s birthday banquet, I had certainly become a topic at their dinner tables.
"Sister Clarissa~!" Shannon waved cheerfully from her seat. Adrian sat at her desk. They looked like a couple who couldn’t go five minutes without showing off their affection.
They walked to me and guided me to the only empty seat... at the very back.
"This is the only empty seat. I’ll try asking the teacher to rearrange the desks so you won’t have to sit all the way back here," Adrian said.
"No need. I’m perfectly fine here," I replied.
This was the best class. Every student was ambitious. If they were forced to move seats because of me, I’d immediately become their number one public enemy.
Shannon and Adrian still looked unhappy, but I smiled at them reassuringly. I appreciated their kindness, just not the extra attention.
After handing me the class schedule, they headed to the teacher’s office to fetch materials. Adrian was the class monitor, while Shannon served as his vice.
Left alone, I didn’t mind. I was used to being alone.
I was flipping through the subjects they had covered so far when a soft voice came from my right.
"Your name is Clarissa Green, right?"
A girl with long ash-grey hair, gently wavy at the ends, offered me a small, elegant smile.
"Yes. And you are...?" I replied.
"Tessa Grey. Let’s be friends," she said with quiet confidence. The ease in her voice... as if she wasn’t afraid of losing anything.
I blinked, taken aback.
In the end, I nodded. There was no harm in making friend.
