Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss-Chapter 608 - 582: The Edge and the Angel
Qian went into the mountains with Yu Minglang, while Ye Xiaoyu wanted to prove herself to Qian by demanding to take over Qian’s show, showing that she could do what Meiwei could.
Unexpectedly, Ye Xiaoyu messed up hosting the program, piling her brain full of emotional junk, which led to an outburst of negative emotions tormenting Li Jia, who was pursuing her. Ironically, Li Jia happened to be a patient with borderline personality disorder.
When this illness is under control, people can be extremely nice, but a change of face is just a second away. When he is well, he can bare his heart and offer it to you; when he is not well, he can turn on you in a second, eager to bite down to the bone.
Li Jia’s father is the city’s richest man, currently passionately pursuing Ye Xiaoyu. While Ye Xiaoyu didn’t fancy him—for she harbored feelings towards a god-like man for years—she was determined to prove her charm after Yu Minglang gently rejected her, so she got together with Li Jia.
Li Jia’s pursuit of Ye Xiaoyu wasn’t a matter of a few days; Ye Xiaoyu kept him hanging with her tricks, showing interest then withdrawing, accepting expensive gifts without hesitation when she needed him, and kicking him away when she didn’t, shamelessly trying to get close to Yu Minglang. Upon being rejected by Yu Minglang, she accepted Li Jia’s pursuit in a fit of anger.
Barely two days into the relationship, she provoked Li Jia into anger during one of her outbursts, resulting in him hitting her. Ye Xiaoyu threatened to break up, Li Jia knelt and placed a knife at his throat, threatening to commit suicide. Being an only child, Li Jia’s father exerted pressure on Ye Xiaoyu, promising to buy her a house and threatening to leave her jobless if she broke up with his son.
Not only did his father assure her he would find a suitable psychologist for Li Jia to prevent such incidents in the future, Ye Xiaoyu agreed to stay for the sake of money and power.
But unexpectedly, such an awkward situation arose.
Who’d have thought that the person she looked down upon the most, Meiwei, turned out to be the incredibly capable psychologist that Li Jia’s father spoke of?
Li Jia’s father is also a businessman, having business dealings with Teng Shuixian’s father, Teng Daye. The circle isn’t large; everyone knows Teng Daye knows of a very capable psychologist, albeit expensive, who can handle unclear psychological illnesses locally.
"Baby, this is the doctor, what are you doing?" Li Jia was puzzled by his girlfriend’s reaction.
Ye Xiaoyu pushed away his hand disgustedly, feeling awkward being affectionate with another man in Meiwei’s presence, especially with Meiwei’s eyes, which although seemingly calm, appeared to penetrate everything, leaving her even more agitated.
"This woman is no good! If you let her treat you, we won’t have a relationship anymore!" Ye Xiaoyu threatened. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Qian snorted disdainfully, childish.
"Baby, don’t be angry, I won’t see her. Isn’t it okay? Please don’t leave me!"
Li Jia was normal a second ago, then burst into tears the next, finally kneeling on the ground with a thud.
This reaction is a typical trait of borderline personality disorder. They are moody, unpredictable, their emotions easily swing drastically. They switch rapidly from one emotion to another.
Normal people have the ability to control their emotions with regards to events, but those with borderline personality disorder lack this ability. A small incident can trigger major emotional changes; medically, borderline personality disorder is also known as BPD.
This illness has very strong aggression and destructive power. Compared to it, Qian’s obsession and pre-marital fear are like the difference between an elephant and an ant.
"Mr Chen, I’m sorry, I can’t treat you. Please leave quickly, before my baby gets angrier!" Li Jia’s tone made the people around think Qian had wronged him.
Knowing that this was a pathological reaction, Qian didn’t get angry. Toward patients, she always maintained calm and distance.
"You may refuse my treatment, but I suggest you leave the country immediately; this illness is serious." Qian spoke earnestly, upholding the ethics of her profession as a doctor.
"I’m not ill, baby please don’t leave me!" Li Jia clung to Ye Xiaoyu’s leg.
Realizing so many people were watching her, Ye Xiaoyu’s face began to burn, particularly embarrassing in front of Qian. Finally unable to withstand it any longer, she shoved Li Jia away and strode outside.
Watching Ye Xiaoyu leave, Li Jia’s emotions suddenly switched from tearful to agitated as he jumped up, grabbing a cup on the table intending to throw it at Ye Xiaoyu. Qian happened to be beside him and before he could act, the cup thrown toward Qian.
"Bang!"
Accompanied by a loud noise, a portable cup flew from a distance, perfectly intercepting the cup aimed at Qian, falling on the ground near her sleeve.
Qian looked up to see Yu Liumei standing a short distance away, out of breath, having thrown the cup to save the day promptly.
Yu Liumei rushed over, standing protectively in front of Qian, glaring at Li Jia angrily.
"Are you blind? If you’re in a bad mood, go for a run. What skill is it to vent your temper on others?" Had she not come over quickly, her gentle sister-in-law would have been hit.
"I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to hit her, I was—" Li Jia began to explain but broke down again, covering his face and sobbing loudly on the ground.
Qian gesturing with her hand, signaling Liumei not to blame him.
She walked over, crouched beside Li Jia, and patted his shoulder, comforting him, "Don’t cry. I know you’re struggling. For BPD patients, the hardest is you, not others, during an outburst. Angels and demons are intertwined, I believe you are a good person, don’t be sad."
No one had ever said anything like that when he was having an episode, Li Jia tearfully looked at Qian, "You trust me?"
"I have dealt with many BPD patients. I know you can’t control your emotions, you’re obsessive, you’re split but you’re not schizophrenic. You’re empty, you question your own existence, you even doubt what kind of person you are, but it doesn’t matter. I believe with treatment, you will get better."
Under Qian’s professional guidance, Li Jia finally calmed down emotionally, apologized to Qian, and left.
Yu Liumei watched with admiration.
"Sister-in-law, you’re amazing! If you can endure this person, you’re truly kind-hearted!"
Qian felt a guilty pleasure seeing Liumei admire her so much.
Her attitude towards Li Jia was purely professional duty as a doctor, nothing to do with tolerance or intolerance. It’s akin to a doctor examining a patient’s throat despite the smell; no doctor would despise their patient as it is part of their work.
Liumei had only seen Qian’s good side; she hadn’t witnessed Qian’s harsh side, hence her impression of Qian as extremely gentle and kind.
"Though borderline personality disorder seems scary and extreme, patients themselves suffer greatly. If the people around them insist a bit more and show more understanding, perhaps they could pull them from the devil’s side to the angel’s side."
