Return of the Immortal Emperor Daddy-Chapter 296 - 298: The Body of Steel [2/5]
The military had arrived, bringing howitzer trucks and vehicles mounted with heavy machine guns. Every soldier was armed with a rifle or a carbine.
Though Zhou Weimou was still trapped within the Illusion Technique, he had already planned for such a contingency. He had long since ordered the army to suppress any extraordinary incidents within Yang City.
"I’m saved!" Whip Sovereign, trapped within the thirty-six-man Formation, was overjoyed. With the military intervening, he saw a glimmer of hope. The Formation had already suppressed him, and it was only a matter of time before its members could kill him. But with the army’s arrival, the thirty-six men hesitated. Should they deal the killing blow?
"Go ahead," Wu Tian’s voice was soft. "Don’t worry. The military won’t be a problem."
His words may have been quiet, but to everyone present, they were as loud and unbelievable as a clap of thunder. Is he kidding? This is the army! Capturing a Jianghu expert is difficult, but if an expert stands their ground against modern weaponry, it’s suicide—a mantis trying to stop a chariot. Why is Wu Tian so confident?
Amid everyone’s astonished gazes, Wu Tian snorted. "Demon Blood Stains the Azure Sky!"
His Divine Body phenomenon manifested once again. The sky directly above the herb company was suddenly blotted out by black clouds, while everywhere else in Yang City remained clear and sunny. This place alone was an exception. The sight was utterly unbelievable. Although the military had cordoned off the street below, people watching from the surrounding high-rises couldn’t believe their eyes.
Looking at the dark clouds roiling above the herb company, even the soldiers, seasoned by countless training drills, felt an inexplicable, bone-deep chill. Anyone who stared at the clouds felt the oppressive aura of death, causing them to tremble.
Gun Sovereign, who had walked to the company’s entrance, felt a shiver run down his spine at the sight. "This... is this Wu Tian’s doing?" His eyelid twitched. He couldn’t believe Wu Tian was capable of creating such a scene. If this is real, Wu Tian is too terrifying... he can’t possibly be human!
While the dark clouds were frightening, they were still a natural phenomenon. But just as everyone watched in bewildered disbelief, blood began to fall from them like rain. Each drop carried an immense weight, smashing craters into the asphalt street where it landed.
"How can this be?"
The soldiers outside the herb company had been in perfect formation, but the blood rain shattered their discipline. Their expressions turned to horror as they scrambled for cover. All the imposing air they had arrived with had vanished, replaced by utter chaos. Some ducked into buildings; others dove into their armored vehicles.
But then...
DRIP. DRIP.
The armored vehicles sizzled and dissolved into nothingness under the blood rain.
"How is this possible?!" The soldiers couldn’t believe their eyes. What is this rain? Why is it red? How can it have such destructive power? They frantically fled towards the surrounding buildings.
Inside the thirty-six-man Formation, Whip Sovereign panicked once more. The combined pressure, killing intent, and attacks from the men had left him covered in wounds and on the verge of death. It was too late for Gun Sovereign to save him; the Formation was too tight for him to penetrate.
"Save me!" Whip Sovereign shrieked, his voice filled with despair and terror.
Hearing his cries, the soldiers outside immediately rushed into the herb company. Rifles snapped up to aim at Wu Tian, and sniper scopes settled on him. Yet, Wu Tian remained indifferent, standing calmly in place.
Gun Sovereign was stunned to see Wu Tian neither dodging nor even flinching. A person, no matter how great their Martial Skills, is still flesh and blood. They might be able to dodge bullets, but how could anyone withstand them?
"Tell them to stop," a soldier demanded.
Wu Tian was silent.
"If he dies, the Sword Emperor will be furious! The Land of the South will know no peace!" the soldier pleaded desperately.
Wu Tian paid him no mind. That problem is not my concern. The Sword Emperor wants to come? Then he can forget about ever leaving.
Wu Tian remained silent as the thirty-six men ganged up on Whip Sovereign.
"No!" A flurry of vicious punches and kicks rained down. Whip Sovereign, his face battered and swollen, screamed in agony.
The soldiers knew if they didn’t act now, Whip Sovereign would truly die.
A storm of bullets filled the sky, so dense they were a blur. The air erupted with the BOOM-BOOM-BOOM of concentrated gunfire as all the firepower was directed at Wu Tian. These were high-powered rifles, capable of turning a steel plate into Swiss cheese. The smell of gunpowder hung thick in the air.
Yet, it was as if Wu Tian didn’t even notice. The bullets struck his body with a series of metallic CLANGS, creating not so much as a spark before disintegrating into dust.
"How could this be?"
Superman? He has a body of steel... a soldier thought, stunned.
"One Kick to Rule the World!" Wu Tian suddenly lifted his right foot. He focused his mind and calmed his breath, gathering Spiritual Energy into his sole. All eyes were fixed on him; he was the center of everything, his every movement dazzling.
He stamped his foot down.
Instantly, Spiritual Energy erupted. The air tore with a deafening WHOOSH as the very earth began to quake. Soldiers lost their footing and tumbled to the ground. Armored vehicles tipped and fell into the massive fissures that opened in the street.
Gun Sovereign’s face went pale. I thought I had seen the pinnacle of the Martial Path. I believed that if I could just catch up to the Sword Emperor, I would understand the true meaning of ’martial.’ I never imagined the gap could be this vast. To compare myself to Wu Tian is to compare a firefly to the radiant moon. I’ve been deluding myself.
Wu Tian stood motionless as the tremors subsided. A web of deep cracks radiated out in all directions from where his right foot had landed. Such power was not humanly possible.
"No... How can this be?"
Whip Sovereign now knew he was doomed, but he still struggled, roaring and thrashing in a final, desperate act. The absolute terror of death was etched onto his face. He was afraid. I never imagined Wu Tian could be this powerful—a level of strength that far surpasses even the Sword Emperor. If only I had known... If I had just observed him for a few more days, it never would have come to this. I wouldn’t have to die.
The thirty-six men finally unleashed their finishing blow, intending to execute him within the Formation.
Nearby, Gun Sovereign watched in horror. He was a man of principle, and despite Whip Sovereign’s failings, they were sworn brothers. He prepared to thrust his spear, the Heroic Dragon’s Gall, to save him.
With a single explosive movement, his spear shot forward. The sound of it Breaking the Void was like the cry of a phoenix—it was the Hundreds of Birds Paying Homage to the Phoenix technique.
Inside the Formation, the grievously wounded Whip Sovereign heard the sound of the spear. He forced his eyes open, mustering his last ounce of strength. He still had hope.
But Gun Sovereign’s spear was stopped in its tracks, caught effortlessly in Wu Tian’s left hand. It was like a Divine Dragon seized in the palm of a Saint, unable to move another inch.
"No!"
His final hope was extinguished.
The thirty-six men struck as one.
"Ahhh!" With one last, agonizing scream, Whip Sovereign died.
