Return to the City: The Strongest King-Chapter 1786 - 1716: Eradicating Traitors (Part 4)
Capítulo 1786: Chapter 1716: Eradicating Traitors (Part 4)
“Last night we encountered a small group from America’s Owl Squad. These people were well-equipped and agile, and I have quite a bit of experience dealing with them,” Song Xiaodong replied.
“That’s ridiculous, you so-called experts boast too much. Owl Squad is America’s elite mercenary team. If you’ve really run into them, how did you manage to come back alive?” Feng Jian said, crossing his arms and standing tiptoed, speaking arrogantly to Song Xiaodong.
“Hmph, not only did I encounter them, but I also sent them three bodies. But can I tell you that?” Song Xiaodong looked at Feng Jian and couldn’t help but feel amused.
“However, Zhao Ruonan, General Zhao, has issued orders that we are responsible for this mission,” Zhou Quan clearly favored Feng Jian.
“You’ve only been here for a few days. I’ve been in this place for over two years and know the Mairab Mountains like the back of my hand. You know nothing, so how can you command us?” Feng Jian smugly leaned against the file cabinet inside the tent.
Song Xiaodong knew that American forces had already infiltrated, and he feared Zhou Quan would suffer losses. That’s why he suggested taking command himself, but Zhou Quan was not receptive. The search task still relied on these people, and he couldn’t be too assertive.
“Alright then, I just hope everyone stays cautious. The American squad has infiltrated.”
“No need for your concern.” Feng Jian opened the tent door and walked out to prepare.
“Mr. Song.” Zhou Quan suddenly spoke to Song Xiaodong.
“Hmm?” Song Xiaodong already knew what Zhou Quan was about to say.
“You are not really experts, are you?” Zhou Quan asked.
“National secrets, no comment,” Song Xiaodong responded succinctly.
“These people following you on the mission have been here for two years and are about to transfer out. Please bring them back alive,” Zhou Quan finished speaking, giving Song Xiaodong a military salute.
“I’ll do my best,” Song Xiaodong didn’t dare to promise.
Because the opponents were the Owl Squad, a star mercenary team skilled in jungle warfare, field battles, ambushes, advanced technology, and progressive combat concepts.
Song Xiaodong had no problem protecting himself, but safeguarding these people was too much for him alone.
The search squad comprised 20 people in total, including Song Xiaodong, Sun Yiyi, Dragon Three, and Dragon Six, making 24 people altogether.
Everyone changed into label-free camouflage suits, using the American weapons stolen from the peacekeeping troops’ American squad. Inspections were conducted from head to toe, removing labels and leaving no trace of Chinese characters, with no domestic equipment from top to bottom. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
Feng Jian distributed the weapons, holding an American-made M16 automatic rifle, he looked over at Song Xiaodong and others dismissively and asked, “Do you know how to use it?”
Song Xiaodong took it and skillfully loaded the bullets, pulled the bolt, and chambered a round.
“Oh, you’ve practiced,” Feng Jian still had a face full of disdain.
“Listen, this operation is a covert mission, there’s no action records, no orders from superiors. You are entering another country’s territory illegally and conducting unlawful actions, understood?” Feng Jian said while chewing gum.
“Understood!” The squad members shouted thunderously.
“As for you few, stay behind, don’t fall behind, and don’t slow us down,” Feng Jian said while chewing gum and tilted his head to eye Song Xiaodong.
Song Xiaodong smiled and shook his head, “Hmph, don’t worry, no matter how fast you go, I can keep up.”
There are many private armed groups along the border, conducting smuggling operations, and working with South Sudanese anti-government forces to traffic people.
The Mairab Mountains are the second highest in Sudan, located in the western Darfur Plateau, with a peak altitude of 3088 meters. It’s an extinct volcano with two volcanic lakes at the summit, dense jungles, and complex terrain.
The Mairab Mountains are situated at the center of Africa, considered the Heart of Africa by many native African mystical religions.
Now the Heart of Africa is divided in two by South-North Sudan, with peacekeeping troops and South Sudanese anti-government forces often clashing to protect civilians.
Zhao Jie was eager to leave North Sudan where China’s peacekeeping troops were stationed and made contact with South Sudanese smugglers, only to be mistaken for a wealthy individual and handed over to the anti-government forces in hopes of a ransom.
