Chapter 123: Decision

Three months later,

Eva was already discharged from the hospital, and she was perfectly healthy.

She sat on the patio, watching the sunset. The air was calm, the surroundings beautiful, and she was slowly getting used to her new home in a new city.

They no longer lived in Lexora. After everything that had happened to her, the Montclair family relocated to Timbelwood, a city in Qynland, the neighboring country to Solvarra. It was safer here, though her brothers still traveled back to Lexora once or twice a week to check on their businesses before returning home.

"Eva, you shouldn’t stay outside for too long. You’re going to catch a cold," said her mother.

The woman was walking towards her with a blanket on her shoulders. And when she got close to Eva, she wrapped it around her.

Although she wasn’t feeling cold, Eva still cuddled with the blanket since there was nothing she would say to change her mother’s mind. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞

The woman stared at her with soft eyes, and Eva couldn’t help but melt into them.

"I’m just thinking if I should sign with Eleoquise or find a better agency here in Timbelwood."

Just like Lexora, Timbelwood was also a land for the entertainment industries with so many opportunities knocking behind every door.

Eva was already an icon, and if she chose an agency, she would immediately get signed into one.

Eleoquise also had a branch in Qynland, and it had always been her dream entertainment company, but perhaps, running after a dream for so long wasn’t always good and perhaps, it was time she gave up on it.

"Eleoquise said they wanted you, so I’m sure they want you," said her mother. "But don’t you think going back to become a model is going to make Marcus start tracking you down once again?" The woman asked with concern and fear laced in her tone.

She’d lost her daughter a few times in the past, and it was completely understandable she was scared of losing her one more time.

Eva shifted on her seat and she shook her head. "Mr. De Rossi already got his seat. For now, I doubt he’s going to be bothered if I’m alive or not. Until the next few years when he’ll run for the presidential seat, he’s going to have too many enemies to want to bother about me. And even if he is, he will Dante to come kill me."

Mrs. Montclair’s heart could only ache for Eva.

She’d fallen in love twice but always got her heart broken. She regretted not slapping Dante harder on the cheeks the other day he came to their home.

Jaime Lorenzo had gone missing after the day that the winner of the election was announced. Although now, no one searched for him anymore as he was old news. Mr. De Rossi was a huge suspect and there was a chance that Dante must have gone to kill the man, and possibly bury him in a barrel like his father had done to her.

"And Dante?" Mrs. Montclair asked, her eyebrows furrowing. "If you become a public figure again, he’ll know where you are and start searching for you. It’s not going to be easy."

"I don’t think Dante would care if I lived or not. He and his father have already accomplished their goals," Eva responded.

However, deep inside her, she wondered if Dante would care if he found out she was alive. Was he going to care? Was he going to hug her and was he going to apologize?

She shook her head faintly when she realized that she was starting to pity him.

He killed James afterall, the only person they had as evidence against his father, and admitted to knowing his father was the one who killed her parents, yet kept it a huge secret from her.

Mrs. Montclair could only sigh as she rubbed Eva’s shoulders.

Her daughter has indeed been through a lot, and for the past three months, felt like she was seeing a different Eva.

She hasn’t seen her smile warmly for the past three months she’d woken up. She stayed in her room most of the time, came down for breakfast and dinner and sometimes, went to the garden at the back.

She acted like Eva, but like a broken one.

Her mother’s heart couldn’t help but ache at seeing her daughter like this.

She didn’t say anything, and just stayed with Eva for a while before it was time to retire inside for dinner.

Eva still recognized Maxine’s number.

Although her revenge was important, her career was too, and she wasn’t going to let some people ruin her every chance of achieving her dreams. First it was Katherine and Nathan, and now... Dante.

Her mother was right.

If she came out to the public, Mr. De Rossi and Dante would want to kill her, especially Mr. De Rossi.

Life has given her another chance to love, and she certainly wasn’t going to waste it anymore.

According to her brothers, Lexora wasn’t a safe place for her anymore. At least, while Mr. De Rossi was still alive.

But then, her heart couldn’t help but ache at Dante’s betrayal.

Her mind drove back to his last words she heard before his father hung up on the phone.

I didn’t have a choice.

’What did he mean?’ Eva couldn’t help but wonder.

She shook her head, thinking she was starting to believe there was any good in him.

She huffed, combing her hair with her slender fingers.

Not long, Eva received a confirmation text from Maxine and a faint smile bloomed on Eva’s face.

She knew Maxine would be worried and would blast her with questions once she reached Timbelwood.

Her mind immediately clicked to something—her termination contract with Veila.

Exhausted, she fell on the bed, huffing a breath.

Tears threatened to well in her eyes, but she fought them back.

Things were going to change from now on.
