Chapter 179: Chapter 179. Imprisoned

"But what if we haven’t found the thing by then? We will have wasted all our time and effort," Luan Xuan said.

"It was once here. Someone must have taken it," Pan Lohuan said.

The other two turned to where Li Shi and the students were being held captive. Everyone who noticed their glances was confused by the attention, except for Amon.

"Could it be them?" Ni Lulu asked.

"It must have been taken by one of them! We have searched all the other soldiers we killed," Luan Xuan said.

"But... We have searched them as well," Ni Lulu said.

"They may not have it with them, but they might know something. Probably they have hid it somewhere before we attacked," Pan Lohuan said. "We will take them with us to our hideout. We will wring everything they know out of them."

Amon looked around. No opportunity had revealed itself yet. The three elders also stayed in that hall the entire time. If they were taken to the hideout, it would be more difficult to escape. If it was possible, he wanted to escape before then. He might have lost the black space ring and all the valuables he possessed, but it was more important to preserve his life. He could hunt these rebels to get his stuff back when he was strong enough.

However, no such chance presented itself. The three elders remained in the hall the rest of the night. They didn’t rest or sleep. In the morning, when their subordinates still failed to find the thing they were looking for, they had no choice but to leave.

Li Shi and the students were herded as they moved away from the ruin. They didn’t go in the direction of the main roads or nearby towns. They continued to travel through the wilderness. There were occasional spirit beast attacks, but they were more than a hundred strong. Many in the group also had high cultivation, so the spirit beast didn’t give them much trouble.

Amon hoped a stronger spirit beast would appear. If it happened, he should be able to escape using the chaos. Sadly, it didn’t happen.

They were forced to run at their maximum speed. The three elders also ran near them. Pan Lohuan was at the front, while Ni Lulu and Luan Xuan flanked them from two sides. They were being treated as valued prizes.

They ran for around three days before they arrived at a forested area. Amon spotted some people hiding atop the trees. They should be near the rebel’s hideout already.

As expected, they stopped in a place with heavy shrubs. One man went and grabbed the shrubs. He pulled it up and revealed a cave behind. Some people went in first, then Amon and the others were told to go in.

’In the end, no opportunity is given,’ Amon thought disappointedly as he followed the others in. Yet, he didn’t despair. He just needed to keep his eyes open and his mind sharp. It’s not like this was his first experience being a captive. He had been captured by his enemies a few times in his past life. He always found a way out.

All of them were thrown inside a locked room. They had no clear indication of time since they were underground, but they estimated one day should have passed. Amon had a better grasp of time. It had been twenty-one hours since they were forced into this cell.

Everyone except him talked a lot during their first few hours inside the cell. Mostly of speculation of what thing these rebels were searching for and who could have taken it. Several people even started pointing fingers and accused someone else of having the thing the rebels were looking for. They demanded whoever had the thing hand it out or at least tell the rebels where they had stashed it, so they could be freed.

Amon was among those who got accused.

Li Shi stopped them and said that even if it was true that one of them got it, the rebels wouldn’t just simply let them go after getting what they wanted. Fan Niang panicked after hearing that and asked what they should do then. No one could give her an answer.

After those first few hours of heated discussion, the remaining hours were mostly silence. Everyone just sat there with defeated expressions except for Amon, who was cultivating.

"You still have the mood to cultivate? What’s the point? It’s not like you will get strong enough before they decide to kill us," Zong Kui mocked.

"Not to mention, all our weapons are taken as well," Lei Gun added.

Amon didn’t react to them. Even if it was pointless, it was still a better thing to do than moping like the rest of them.

Li Shi tried to calm everyone down. "Everyone, please don’t panic. The kingdom will send people to rescue us. Just be patient."

"How can they save us? We are in the middle of nowhere. They won’t even know where to look," Zong Kui said.

"Just trust me... They will come," Li Shi insisted.

Everyone just thought that Li Shi was saying things to soothe them. Amon, however, saw from her eyes that she truly believed that.

They didn’t make any more comments after that. They were not in the mood to spend what was possibly the remaining hours of their lives arguing about the hope of being rescued.

After those twenty-one hours inside the cell, someone finally opened their doors. Everyone was instructed to exit the room except for Zong Kui and Fan Niang. Outside, they were divided into three groups. Li Shi with Jie Mei, Yong Lei with Lei Gun, and Amon was alone.

Each of these groups was then ushered into next-door cells. Everyone was confused. What was the point of separating them? Li Shi asked their jailors this question, only to be met with silence.

They were then left alone for another day.

The next day after, Amon heard their cell doors opening. Not long after, Lei Gun came into his cell.

"Damn it! Why do I have to be one cell with you?" He complained.

Amon ignored him. Amon was looking outside through the opened door. The others were also getting their cellmates rotated. He caught a glimpse of Fan Niang coming out of their original cell and moved to the one next door. From the cell she went into, Li Shi came out and went into the one Lei Gun was coming out from just now.

The cell to his door was then closed again, leaving Amon to ponder about it.
