Chapter 186: Chapter 186. Proposing a Deal

Lei Gun was in terrible shock when he saw Fan Niang suddenly reveal a knife in her hand and slice Jie Mei’s throat without any hesitation. He was still in disbelief when Jie Mei’s body fell lifelessly to the floor.

He watched in horror as Fan Niang studied the bloodied knife in her hand and licked the blood from the blade.

"Well. She did say she didn’t know anything," Fan Niang said. Her voice no longer carried the usual sweet and playful tone. It was now cold and emotionless.

Fan Niang stood up. She was staring at Amon.

"I never thought someone would blow my cover," She said. "Congratulations. Now, we must kill you. Both of you, so I can resume using this cover."

"Hehe. Don’t be so full of yourself," Amon said. "As I said, these people are too gullible. I have seen through your pretense the first time I laid eyes on you. You are not that good in disguise."

"Whatever. I have no interest in arguing with a dead man."

"So, are you saying that you are no longer interested in finding that thing you people are searching for?"

Fan Niang paused after hearing Amon’s words. "What do you mean? Do you know about that thing’s whereabouts?"

"I do," Amon replied.

There was a short silence after Amon’s claim. After which, Fan Niang said with a laugh, "You are just trying to save your hide. Haha! Good try, but no. You are still going to die. Blame yourself for acting so smart."

"I see. Fine then. If I die, you people can forget about ever finding that Allure Beacon."

Fan Niang’s eyes turned wide upon the mention of the artifact’s name.

Lei Gun, on the other hand, showed a confused expression. "Allure beacon...? What is that?"

"Where is it...?!" Fan Niang shouted. The intensity of her voice startled Lei Gun. Before this, he would never have imagined the mild-mannered Fan Niang uttering such a demanding tone.

"I want to talk to your leader," Amon said.

"... Why?" Fan Niang asked.

"Because I want to propose a deal," Amon answered.

"The deal is that we let you live."

"Not good enough."

"It’s enough if we say so."

"Then try to wring the information out of me. I wish you good luck in the effort."

Fan Niang gave Amon a hard stare. She could see no fear in his eyes. Did Amon truly not afraid of the possible tortures that would be enacted on him to get the information about the Allure Beacon? She didn’t want to believe that. Amon was a boy younger than her, after all. She had become what she was because she had been forced to survive with the law of the jungle from a very early age. She didn’t believe Amon had a harsher experience than hers. No, she believed Amon was just bluffing.

Yet, the confidence in Amon’s face and eyes was unmistakable. If possible, her superiors preferred to avoid torture methods to get the information. This was because such a method could sometimes be unreliable and risky. Unreliable, because the victim would say anything to have them stop the torture, even by lying. Risky, because the victim might die from the torture. That’s why they used her and her disguise to try to dig the information out of these students.

What they did in the hall was use the lives of the ones she had filtered through to scare the remaining ones and put the rest in a more desperate state. They hoped this would convince the rest to loose their lips.

Fan Niang was pondering as Amon stared back at her. His expression never changed. She was having trouble deciding whether to take up Amon’s offer.

"I will bring you to our leader on one condition," Fan Niang finally said.

"What condition?" Amon asked.

"As you know, our target is the kingdom. As a student of the royal academy, he is part of that kingdom," Fan Niang pointed at Lei Gun. This act started Lei Gun, but her next words shocked him to the core. "If you wish to work with us. Prove that you are our ally. Kill him!"

Lei Gun watched Fan Niang in disbelief. Whatever image he had of the innocent and sweet girl from before was completely shattered now. He turned to Amon, who was still smiling. Although he didn’t like the boy, he didn’t believe Amon would comply with the girl’s demand.

To his relief, Amon didn’t disappoint. "If you think I’m going to kill my fellow student, then think again."

"In that case, forget about meeting our leader!" Fan Niang stated.

"So be it. We will just take you hostage to bargain our way out," Amon said. "Or do you think you can fight the two of us together?"

Fan Niang put on a fighting pose. Her knife was at the ready. "Come then! What can two weaponless students who ever only sparred in comfort do against me, who has seen through life and death struggles?"

"Brother Gun, you take her from the left. I will take her from the right. We need to take her alive," Amon said.

Lei Gun nodded. Amon was right. If they could capture Fan Niang, they could use her as a bargaining chip. He said to Fan Niang while readying his art, "Fan Niang, I never thought you were such a cold-blooded person. I don’t want to fight you, but you give me no–Ackk...!"

Lei Gun didn’t manage to finish his words as a black hand suddenly came from the side and grabbed his throat. The fingers on that hand were as if sharp knives. Those sharp fingers sliced his throat open. He dropped to his knees as blood gushed from his open neck.

He struggled to look to his back, only to see that it was Amon who had ambushed him from behind. He was unable to say anything. He fell to the ground with his eyes still glued to Amon. Amon was not even looking at him. He was unwilling, but he could do nothing as his life slowly ebbed away with the blood that flowed out of his body.

When Lei Gun was no longer moving, Amon said to Fan Niang with a flat tone. "Now, will you take me to your leader?"
