Rise of The Demon General-Chapter 489. Demand an Explanation

A week had passed since Amon and the company he led were ambushed. Burned corpses were found near the excavation site they headed to. From the burned residues, they were confirmed to be kingdom soldiers.

Huang San and Xin Wuming didn’t believe Amon was among the burned corpses, so a search around the area was conducted, but nothing turned out from the search.

In that week, a rumor circulated that the commander of the First Demon Legion had fallen into the rebels’ hands.

"Nothing?" Huang San asked Captain Xia Yan, who had just returned from the search. Huang San was inside Amon’s office. He spent most of his time in Fort Fresh Maw since Amon’s disappearance. Lao Zen and Xin Wuming were there with him.

Xia Yan shook her head. "I’m sorry, Your Highness. We have widened our search, but there is no trace. We captured some locals who we suspected to have connections with the rebels, but they don’t know anything about Colonel Amon."

"Sigh... You are dismissed," Huang San said.

"Don’t worry, Your Highness," Lao Zen consoled. "Colonel Amon is resourceful. I’m sure we will see him again."

"I am concerned about his safety, but unfortunately, that is not my primary worry," Huang San said. "The deadline for the trial is soon approaching. We can’t afford to suffer this setback. Not only did we not yet eradicate the rebels, but we also had our key person abducted by them. This is a disaster!"

"Colonel Amon being in the rebels’ hands is just a rumor. It might not be the case. We must have faith. Right, Wuming?"

Lao Zen turned to Xin Wuming, but Xin Wuming seemed to be not hearing their conversations. He was staring at an envelope in his hand.

"Is that envelope important?" Lao Zen asked.

"I... Brother Amon gave this to me before he headed out. He told me not to open it until after one week or if I heard some misfortune had befallen him," Xin Wuming answered.

"What did it say?" Lao Zen asked.

"I haven’t opened it...," Xin Wuming answered.

"Isn’t it already one week since then?" Huang San asked.

Xin Wuming displayed an awkward expression. He said, "Yes. I’ve been so absorbed in searching for Brother Amon that I forgot about this letter. I remembered it only just now when I heard the discussion about Brother being captured by the rebels."

"Well, what are you waiting for?" Huang San said.

Hearing that, Xin Wuming immediately tore the envelope open. Inside was a letter and a message talisman. The message talisman already had something written on it, which meant the person from the other side had sent the message.

The three of them read the letter. Midway, they turned their attention to what was written on the message talisman before returning to read the rest of the letter.

"Holy shit... I can’t believe this guy," Huang San uttered.

Lao Zen asked Huang San, "Does Your Highness have the locations from Zong Hua’s intel?"

"Yeah, I’ve gotten the latest ones from her a few days ago," Huang San replied.

"Then we need to move fast. I will start mobilizing the troops!" Lao Zen stated.

"Go," Huang San nodded.

With that confirmation, Lao Zen rushed out of the office. Xin Wuming went with him to help.

Huang San sat back in his chair. ’Perhaps not all is lost,’ he thought. Still, he cursed Amon in his mind. Did that guy have to go through this length and keep everyone in the dark?

He took a deep breath and took out the information from Zong Hua. Lao Zen would need time to organize the troops, so it would be a while before they departed. Still, he wasn’t going to be idle. He laid the map of Echos on the table and started marking spots on the map while cross-checking Zong Hua’s information.

A few hours later, rapid knocks were heard before a soldier rushed into the office. Huang San was about to scold him since he hadn’t been permitted to enter. But looking at the soldier’s face, he instead asked, "What’s the matter?"

"Your... Your Highness, an... an army has just shown up. They... They surround our fort," the soldier stammered because he talked in a hurry.

"What?!" Huang San stood. His first thought was, could it be the rebels? But he dismissed it immediately. If the rebels dared to show up in a large force that could threaten this fort, that meant they had shown their hands and were ready to either win or get wiped out.

Huang San rushed out of the office and the keep. He flew toward the wall where he could get a better look. Lao Zen, An Guan, and the others were already on the wall looking outside. Even before Huang San landed on the wall, he could see the large mass teeming outside. There was indeed an army encircling their fort, and these troops far outnumbered them.

However, these troops all wore kingdom uniforms. They were Echos soldiers.

Before Huang San could demand the army outside to tell him who ordered them here, the voice of the one responsible echoed in the air.

"Amoonnn...!!! Come out!"

Huang San looked at the person standing in front of Fort Fresh Maw’s closed gate. The gate was closed once sentries noticed the large army coming toward them. Beside the person stood a man of gigantic size. They were Prince Huang Zhan and General Da Niu.

Huang San jumped from the wall and floated toward them. He called, "Brother Huang Zhan! You should have told me if you plan to visit, but why bring such a large army here?"

Huang Zhan turned to Huang San. His face wasn’t friendly. "Where is Amon? Bring him out here! I demand an explanation!"

"He is unavailable," Huang San answered. "If there is a problem, you can tell me. We can talk it over."

"Talk it over? Pah! You still dare to say that? I helped you because I respect your guts. I never asked for anything in return, but not only did you not repay me, you even fucked me over!"

"Brother, I do not understand. Please calm down and tell me the problem."

"Oh? You want to know the problem? Okay. Tell me, please. Where is the regiment I lent you? A part has demanded to transfer permanently into your force while the rest are gone. I can’t contact any of them. What have Amon done to them?!"
