Rise of The Demon General-Chapter 688. Darkness Demon

Xan Chi’s sudden attack took Huang Er by surprise. The dagger in his hand was almost upon her when a water blanket suddenly wrapped around his arm. This slowed his thrusting speed.

The interference gave Huang Er the chance to respond. Her palm slapped onto Xan Chi’s chest and sent him flying. He crashed into the cave wall and bounced. During the bounce, he transformed into a woman with multiple furry tails.

"Who are you?" Huang Er asked.

Instead of answering, Lin Li swung her sharp claw into the empty air. Huang Er was at first confused by her adversary’s action, but soon learned that it was Sima Fang who had saved her. Sima Fang used a mid-tier runic invisible talisman to hide his presence. The talisman was ripped by Lin Li’s claw, causing Sima Fang to lose her invisibility.

"Damn it! I didn’t expect this spirit beast to detect my concealed aura," Sima Fang cursed.

"She is a spirit beast?" Huang Er asked.

Lin Li didn’t fight them after her disguise was revealed. She turned and ran away.

Sima Fang threw her water blanket to catch Lin Li, but Lin Li was too fast. The water blanket could only touch her shadow.

"This place is truly dangerous. Not only does it have the Soul Flayer, but a spirit beast that could so perfectly disguise itself as a human is also living here," Huang Er remarked. She paused before telling Sima Fang, "Thank you. You saved me."

"I’ve been trying to save you since we departed for this place. You don’t exactly make the task easy for me," Sima Fang said.

"... I’m sorry," Huang Er said.

"Let’s just leave this place," Sima Fang said.

"Do you know the way?" Huang Er asked.

"Yes. I memorise the way to the underwater passage that links to the lake. Follow me."

"Wait! I have found the Soul Flayer. Its lair is over there, but the way is blocked. We should be able to find another route to its lair."

"We can’t stay here. I’ve already explained that you are in danger. You must trust me. Just write a note indicating the direction of the lair and leave an activated beacon talisman next to the note."

"Oh...," Huang Er uttered.

"What?" Sima Fang asked.

"... I’ve already activated the beacon talisman several minutes ago," Huang Er answered.

"What...? Throw away the beacon talisman! We must leave, now...!!!" Sima Fang exclaimed.

The urgency in Sima Fang’s tone helped Huang Er stop questioning her. She threw away the beacon talisman she had activated earlier. "Which way?" She asked Sima Fang.

Sima Fang pointed in a direction. Huang Er dashed forward and grabbed Sima Fang by her arm. She again flew at high speed while carrying Sima Fang. Unfortunately, they hadn’t gone far when they sensed something they rarely sensed, the darkness element.

Huang Er stopped. This was because something with a humanoid shape, shrouded in darkness, was blocking their path.

"Is it... another spirit beast?" Huang Er asked.

"I have never heard or read about a spirit beast with such characteristics...," Sima Fang answered.

The dark creature pointed, and they sensed something even rarer than the darkness element, the infernal energy.

"A demon!" Huang Er exclaimed. The infernal energy indicated that the creature before them was a cultivator who practised infernal cultivation.

"Princess, move!!" Sima Fang shouted. It was she who did the pulling this time. She pulled Huang Er away just as the air where they had stood a moment ago darkened. A pair of long, dark tentacles burst out of the darkened air and lashed at them.

Despite Sima Fang’s fast reaction, they were still within the tentacles’ reach. However, thanks to Sima Fang, Huang Er had enough distance to respond. She used her arcane art, and a golden wall materialised to block the two dark tentacles.

A sizzling sound was heard as the tentacles devoured the golden wall. The wall’s brilliant light flickered. The energy supporting it was deteriorating rapidly.

Huang Er didn’t try to fight. The situation was too bizarre. From the accidental encounter with the Soul Flayer, to a masquerading spirit beast that tried to assassinate her for some reason, and now a demon with powerful darkness arts that could undo her golden wall in such a short time. She agreed with Sima Fang. They must flee this place.

Sadly, the darkness demon didn’t play ball. It suddenly dashed with incredible speed and was again in their way. On one side were the deadly tentacles, while on the other was the demon. She had to choose one of the evils.

"Move!" Huang Er exclaimed. She chose the demon. She conjured her drilling rock spears and sent them forward as she advanced.

The demon didn’t move as she demanded. A black flame erupted from its right hand. The flame formed a long sword. The demon swung this flaming, black sword at the incoming rock spears. The rock spears were as if eggs hitting a rock. They were pulverised upon contact with the black sword.

The swing the demon did was not only for defence. Following the swing was a black crescent light that shot out. This crescent light headed for Huang Er.

Sima Fang used her movement art, Riding The Leaf. She was still holding Huang Er, so she managed to pull Huang Er away before the crescent light arrived. At the same time, her battle puppet emerged from her space ring. This battle puppet immediately pounced on the darkness demon.

Huang Er took over again. Still holding Sima Fang, she dashed forward and tried to slip past by staying near the wall. She wanted to put a safe distance from the demon while it was busy with Sima Fang’s battle puppet.

Meanwhile, Sima Fang took out several talismans and activated them simultaneously. Her feat didn’t lose to Xuang Feng, the talisman expert from Khode. All the talismans she activated were low-tier runic grades. In an instant, the cave was filled with devastating energies of various elements, all of which were storming the darkness demon.

Huang Er ignored the devastation. Her only focus was to get as far away from this place as possible. She covered Sima Fang and herself with a protective aura and ran through a small gap between the elemental chaos and the cave wall. The darkness demon should be too occupied to stop them.

She couldn’t see the demon amidst all the elemental turbulence. She couldn’t sense it as well because its aura was mixed with the chaotic elemental energies. She, however, remembered its position. She had run past the demon’s initial position. She increased her speed. The prospect of them fleeing was good.

"Look out!" She heard Sima Fang’s warning. She was carrying Sima Fang, who had their eyes on their backs.

She heeded Sima Fang’s advice and stepped to the side, just as something flew past her. This something bumped into the wall ahead of them and dropped to the ground. It was one-half of Sima Fang’s battle puppet. She sensed the demon bursting out of the elemental turmoil behind her.

The demon was too fast. She had no choice but to push Sima Fang away. The two of them moved to opposite sides as the demon slashed the place where they had been an instant ago.

Sima Fang held her talismans. She was about to use them, but was sadly not fast enough. The demon’s black sword pierced through her talismans and stabbed into her chest. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

"No...!!" Huang Er exclaimed.

She executed a quick martial art while the demon assaulted Sima Fang. Yet, the energies of her strikes like falling into a bottomless abyss when they touch the demon’s dark shroud. Seeing her energy couldn’t penetrate the demon’s defence. She delivered her palm directly to strike the demon.

When her palm touched the darkness shroud, she knew immediately it was a mistake. She could feel her hand getting burned. It was like plunging her hand into a bucket of acid. She quickly pulled away as she screamed in pain.

She tried using her arcane art that conjured the drilling rock spears, but was not fast enough. The demon turned and slashed the newly formed rock spears, destroying her art before it could be unleashed. Its other arm thrust at her.

That arm slammed into her. The strike easily went through her protective aura. She felt a hand grab her neck. She was pushed until she slammed into the wall behind. The darkness from that hand slowly crept all over her body. She could feel this darkness eating her as it spread. She screamed from the pain.

"General Amon! So, you are a demon! Are you truly hell-bent on eliminating the Huang Clan’s bloodline?!" Sima Fang shouted. She had a hole in her chest. She had difficulty even remaining standing and speaking.

The demon turned to her without releasing Huang Er. It didn’t respond to her in words. It simply slashed its black sword, which produced a black crescent that sliced through her neck.

Sima Fang dropped to the ground. Her head rolled beside her body.
