Chapter 710: Chapter 710. You Mean the Whole World

The ones on the ground were surprised to see the Holy Mother plunging into the ground. Those close to the crater looked at it after the dust cloud subsided. Mu Qin was on all fours. Her robe was no longer perfect. There were many tears.

They then heard shouting from above. They looked up and saw many soldiers and temple members diving toward the ground. Sura Yao’s ghostly apparition flew alongside them. They all targeted Mu Qin.

All those soldiers and temple members had frenzied expressions. Seeing their opponent down on the ground bolstered their battle lust. They were all racing to be the first to tear Mu Qin apart.

Mu Qin remained on the ground. She didn’t move, and her gaze was fixed on the ground below her. Her mind was elsewhere. She was having trouble coping because she was forced to feel something she hadn’t felt for a very long time. These feelings were pain, rejection, and fear.

’What... What is this...? Why does my heart beat so fast?’ She thought.

She sensed hostile presences approaching from above. She didn’t have to look up. She knew all these people had bad intentions for her. But why? She couldn’t remember. Why did they despise her so?

She was suddenly gripped by intense fear. This sudden eruption of emotion caused her to lash out in anger. A massive shockwave radiated out. Sharp winds accompanied this shockwave. This shockwave obliterated everything around her in a large radius. Whether it was buildings or living things, everything was cut into pieces. Even the ghostly apparitions that could reassemble themselves every time they were cut were reduced to nothingness.

The soldiers and temple members, who were so eager to reach Mu Qin first, had all turned to dust. Those who were late stopped in their tracks after witnessing the carnage. They were now grateful for being late. Otherwise, they would have been goners.

Mu Qin lifted her head and looked around her. Everything was in ruins. No house was intact. The severed bodies of citizens were everywhere.

Suddenly, the scene changed. Everything around her was still in ruins, but it was different. Fire burned all around her. She heard cries and explosions in the distance. The sky was dark, which was strange. It was still daytime a moment ago. Several glowing beings were up there in the sky.

She then noticed it was not only her surroundings that had changed. She looked at herself. She was smaller. Her hands and legs were dirty. She was no longer wearing a priestly robe but was instead garbed in regular street attire.

She didn’t understand. She was no longer at Saint’s Rest. She was also not herself. Yet, everything felt familiar.

An explosion next to her startled her. She turned that way, and the scene changed again. All the devastation was gone, and daylight had returned. She was gazing at the intact houses around her when something small hit her from behind.

"Ouw," she uttered. She looked back and saw that it was a small pebble. The pebble was thrown by one of the kids gathering nearby.

"Go away, you freak! You don’t belong here," One of the kids yelled.

"Yeah. My parents said you are a demon. You are the enemy of mankind," Another added.

"All this time we played together. We thought you were our friends, but it turns out you are a demon masquerading as one of us. How could you?"

"We don’t want you here anymore!"

The kids picked up more rocks and threw them at her.

She put up her arms to protect herself. The rocks battered her. It was painful. She wanted to yell at them to stop, but she couldn’t. She ran away. She knew she was crying from the wetness on her cheek. The feeling of sorrow inside her was stifling.

She ran to a small hut. She didn’t know why she ran there. Only after she entered the hut did she know why. This was where she lived. Her parents were inside. They were quarrelling, and she was the reason they were quarrelling.

"How can she turn out to be a demon? There must be a mistake."

"There is no way for the town chief’s Profound Stone to make a mistake. The verdict is final. Everyone in the town should have learned this by now."

"How can this be...? I never had an ancestor who was a demon. Did you?"

"Of course, I don’t! All my family members are practitioners who follow the path of the Divine. It must be your line that is cursed!"

"How dare you say that about my bloodline!"

She didn’t want them to quarrel. Why did they quarrel? Her aching heart made her yell, "Stoppp...!!!"

Her parents turned to her. Their already scowling faces scowled even more. Her father came at her with a menacing demeanor.

"It was you. You have damned us with your accursed blood! Before the inquisitors arrive, I must tie you up and bring you to the town chief to make amends. Otherwise, we will all be–"

Her father failed to finish his sentence because a large boulder crashed through the hut. The boulder took out half his body. By the time she registered what had happened, his body from the waist up was gone.

She was about to say something to her mother, but the wall behind her mother exploded. She saw in slow motion her mother engulfed by the fire that came with the explosion. She herself was pushed by the shockwave of the explosion. She crashed through the door she entered not that long ago and was back outside again.

She was down on the ground and learned that the scene had returned to the fiery devastation from before. Everything was in ruins. Everyone was either dead or screaming. Fire and explosions were everywhere.

Her whole body felt numb. She tried to stand but couldn’t. She channeled her energy the way she was taught. Dark aura rose from her body.

In such a hellscape, two beings shrouded in light descended. She heard voices from these two glowing beings.

"Look, a demon in a populated settlement. How intriguing that it survives."

"Her identity has probably only been discovered. Look how young she is."

"She doesn’t fit the category. Let’s get rid of her and be done with this."

"Hold... I sense that she possesses a special constitution."

"So what? It’s not like having a special constitution is one of the categories."

"Her special constitution is... how do I put it... unique."

"Every special constitution is unique."

"This is even more so. I think the Divine will want to meet her."

Darkness overtook her afterward. She couldn’t hear those two’s voices anymore, nor could she see her surroundings. All of a sudden, the complete darkness was replaced by a bright light. It was so bright that she had to cover her eyes.

After a while, her eyes adjusted to the light. It was still bright, but at least she could see something. She was in a majestic hall. Everything seemed to be emitting light. There were people around her, but she couldn’t make out their faces because the light covered them. She looked at herself. She was an adult again.

One of the glowing beings approached her. The light that shone from this person was brighter than the others in the hall. She felt nervous as this person approached, but at the same time, she also felt comfort and safety.

"Good job, Mu Qin," a deep and authoritative voice came from the person shrouded in light. "You have fulfilled my expectations and finished your training. You are now ready to take on the role meant for you."

She heard herself speak, "Can... Can’t I stay here with you?"

"Mu Qin, you know everyone has their roles. We must all respect each of our roles. Some of us were meant to flourish, some were meant to be leaders who make decisions for others, some are protectors, some toiled endlessly, some can’t escape suffering, and some were always meant to die so others can live. No matter our roles, we must carry them out with diligence, for that is our duty. Without this, our society will be no more than a primitive herd that embraces chaos. You, too, have a role to play. Didn’t I already explain this to you many times?"

"I... I just..." She couldn’t finish her sentence. She didn’t want to leave, but also didn’t want to disappoint this person.

The man in light put a hand on her shoulder. It felt very soothing. "Do you remember what I told you about your special constitution?"

She nodded.

"Your body stopped aging after reaching adulthood," he said. "As long as your body is not damaged, you will never die. But at the same time, your energy core cannot develop past the Lord Stage. You will forever be in the Martial Realm, unable to join our pantheon. Don’t you see how suitable you are for this role? You are born for this. By doing this, you serve us and give your existence meaning. Isn’t that what you desire? To mean something to others?"

"Not to others. To you," she said softly.

He patted and caressed her long hair. She closed her eyes, enjoying his touch.

He said, "Do this, and you will mean the whole world to me."

She opened her eyes then. She was no longer in the bright hall. She was back among the ruins, but the ruins of the present. She looked up and saw a second wave of opponents coming at her. Her eyes glinted with determination.

"For the Divine!" She exclaimed.

The air around her erupted, sending massive wind blades up into the sky. The people coming at her were split into pieces without them being able to reach her.
