Chapter 307: Lost

It was a truly sinister scheme. The Golds were just doing what they could to survive, realizing that they had been screwed over once again.

If they just waited, with their lack of natural defenses, it was inevitable that they would suffer. They had no idea who was in the direction they were going, but if they came across Theron’s fortress, a fight would inevitably ensue.

It didn’t matter if they had a common enemy or not. Fighting was the only option. freёwebnoѵel.com

Although there was potential for an alliance to be struck, the Gold Clan had simply lost too much. They needed a victory—a real victory.

Still, the main reason that an alliance was impossible was because of the risk the Gold Clan was taking at this very moment. They had all but abandoned their fortress and were setting out. They would probably even start attacking the moment they ran into Theron’s scouts, and by then the trap would already be laid.

Of course, Theron was fast and sharp enough to see through all of this. Just by virtue of the fact that he was standing here, he could still stop it.

But there were only two ways that could go. Either the Gold Clan would listen to his words, or they would see that he was alone and use the opportunity to try and take out the man who was probably their greatest threat.

Everyone had seen Theron’s strength by now. He did what a Fifth Resonance Mancer like Riyan couldn’t with a single palm strike. There were also rumors that he was already a Ninth Resonance Silver Mancer.

While it was true that the Gold Clan had once had a Quasi Gold heading their Fourth Years, that man was dead now, and had been replaced by another Ninth Resonance Silver Mancer.

Theron was too great of a threat to just leave lying around.

Though they had a thousand puppets to take under their wings, these puppets were all low-tier Silver Mancers, and their combat effectiveness was too poor compared to real geniuses like all of them.

The second path was that the Golds would accept. But… did Theron want that?

Theron looked off into the distance. Between himself and the fortress was an army of a thousand and six geniuses. Riyan was too heavily injured to participate today, and the other Gold military stream participants were all sporting injuries of varying degrees due to their stubbornness.

The Golds had truly never been humiliated to this extent. It was something that would stick with them for a lifetime.

While these plains made it so that the Golds couldn’t defend their territory all too well, it also meant that any oncoming enemy would be easily spotted. There was simply no way for Theron to sneak up on them.

Well, no obvious way.

Theron just stood there in silence, watching as the Golds marched forward and closed the gap toward him…

And then, as they walked right by him, the ground shaking and the tree he stood in swaying, not a single one of them noticed anything.

Theron landed on the ground behind them and began to walk across the stretch of desert plain.

Not even minutes later, he stood beneath the tall walls of the fortress and pressed a hand onto it.

He had walked across the desert rather than sprinting for a very good reason. Time was important, but timing was even more important. If he rushed here and started banging against the defensive structures, the army would still have time to turn around and surround him.

As powerful as he was, taking on an army of a thousand in a place so devoid of Water Mana would be nothing short of a suicide mission.

But now… this was as good as over.

Chi.

Theron’s Water Mana seeped out of his body. Tapping into a new level of control he had gained after shattering the hidden spatial formations of Mesmeralda, he eased his way into the cracks and crevices of the defensive formation.

The fortress rumbled, alerting those within that someone was attacking their formation. This was unfortunately not something Theron could hide, but his tactics had already accounted for this.

The army was too far away now to make a difference, and the person he was sure was inside… well, they would be there no matter what.

In a matter of minutes, the formation collapsed and Theron slipped inside without a word, a calm indifference to him as he flickered and appeared in the throne room.

Across from him, the Fourth Year of the Gold Clan sat in meditation, a great sword with a body thicker than his torso pierced into the ground at an angle between his crossed legs. His body wrapped around his blade like it was a lover more than just a weapon, but there was a chilliness in his eyes as he looked to Theron that belied the atmosphere.

“I thought that someone would come. I just didn’t expect that it would be you.”

Jerminah Gold. A genius of the Gold Clan’s Fourth Years, but constantly suppressed by a shadow he had been chasing all his life.

What he never expected was that this shadow would die so unceremoniously and in such humiliation. The death of his rival wasn’t just a slap to the face of the Gold Imperial Academy, but also to himself.

He wanted to avenge him—to make it so that the man he had chased for so long remained the same legend he had built up in his mind.

Yet, he ran into one roadblock after another.

“I guess everyone is out to get us.”

Theron looked at the man and didn’t respond immediately. Sympathy wasn’t something he felt much these days—he didn’t have the emotional bandwidth for it. But he still spoke in the end.

“They’re too predictable and not nearly decisive enough. That’s why I got here first. They’ll lose, and lose horribly at that.”

Jerminah slowly rose to his feet, pointing his blade toward Theron.

“You speak as though you’ve already won.”

The words had only just left his lips when he found himself convulsing. He looked down at his chest, a bloody hole having ripped through his collarbone.

“I have.”

Theron walked by him and pressed down on the throne.

The fortress trembled, and the Gold Clan members in the far-off distance froze in place before being forcefully teleported out.

They had lost.
