Road to be the Best Chess Player in the World!-Chapter 540: New Title!
"Oh, man... We are finally back home..." Bagas groaned, stretching his body as he walked down the airplane. "You know, I love going abroad, but what I love the most is when I am back like this. Making everything back home more... Meaningful, you know?"
Sheva just had a faint smile on his face, couldn’t agree more with his best friend’s statement. After more than 10 hours of flying, they were finally back in Indonesia, and the moment he took a deep breath, the polluted air around, the warmth of the tropical sun, and the familiar noisy environment surrounding him, everything hit straight inside his heart.
’Yeah, I am home.’
"Tch! What is so good about being here?" Nayaka suddenly sneered. "The traffic is crazy, the crowd is so big and suffocating, and the weather is the worst! If it is sunny, the sun is scorching hot, and if it is rainy, everything will be muddy. Would it be better to go to a better country like Japan or Europe?"
For that, Devi slapped the back of his head without hesitation. "First of all, Europe is a continent, not a country. What did you do in school to not know something so basic like that?" She started nagging like an old mother.
"Eh... I am... Playing chess?"
"Oh, so, you know how to answer, smartass? Did you talk to your mother like that?"
Nayaka was speechless, while the others were holding back their laughter at Devi’s sudden maternal acting. Well, among the three teenagers, she was always the adult one here, and since the boys listened to her, no one interfered when she tried to make a case like this.
"Also, don’t say something about betraying your country so loudly like that! Don’t you know that the air has ears?! What if someone overheard that? And what is wrong with this country?! Where is your fucking patriotism?"
"Bah! Don’t steer my words like that, Devi! I might live abroad in the future, but I will still represent the country!" Nayaka retorted.
"Actually, Japan looks amazing..." Duta also chimed in.
"Not you too, Duta?!"
The adults there just shook their heads in exasperation. Well, they couldn’t really blame the kids here. As young teenagers whose adventurous sense was still high, they would always think that the grass on the other side would be greener than in their own home.
Once they grew up and the desire to adventure dissipated a little bit, they would know that the best place to live was always the same, back in this country.
"Anyway, we need to move first." Master Susanto suddenly spoke. "You three, we have already ordered two rooms in a hotel nearby, so go check in and take a rest for a moment. Tomorrow morning, some people from the federation will come and greet you, and don’t worry, I will be there as well."
"Um?" Devi was startled. "What about Brother Bagas and Brother Sheva?" She asked. The other two boys also turned to their teacher immediately.
"Us? Of course, we are going back home." Bagas snorted smugly. "What? Unhappy? Don’t forget that this is our city, we don’t need to stay in a hotel, you know that, right?"
Immediately, their faces turned green with envy. Sheva felt sorry for them, but honestly, right now, he really wanted to sleep, what with how long the flight was earlier. It didn’t help that they arrived close to midnight, when the atmosphere was so suitable for taking a rest. He was just grateful that there were no reporters here, or he would’ve been swarmed by them already.
"Let’s just go, Gas. We will be back tomorrow morning." Sheva said. Then, he turned to his students and added, "Just don’t go wandering around too far, and keep in touch with us if anything happens. Devi, you need to keep your eyes on them. You are the most reliable one here."
"Don’t worry, Brother Sheva! Just leave it to me!" Devi nodded solemnly as if she just received a sacred mission here.
After chatting with the others for a while, the taxi they ordered finally arrived. As he sat there and stared at the night scenery of Jakarta, Sheva couldn’t help but sigh; all of the exhaustion finally took its toll.
’There were so many things that happened in the last two weeks that I don’t even know what to do right now.’ He muttered under his breath. ’Oh, well... Maybe I can check my reward first? System, can you show it to me?’
[DING!]
[Congratulations, Host! You have led your three students to dominate the sections they were in!]
[Reward: Title ’I Am the Master’]
[Description: The best chess player in the world is also a good teacher! Bring more players under your wings and fly higher together!]
[Effect: When you teach someone anything related to chess, there will be a 20 percent chance that they will have a breakthrough!]
Sheva frowned instantly when he read the description. ’This time, it doesn’t have any effect on my game, huh?’
However, he couldn’t complain, since he got this title from a mission to teach Nayaka and the others. Also, he remembered full well the last Olympiad and how he felt like he was fighting alone, so this time, if Sheva trained more people to stand alongside him in the Olympiad next year, maybe the result would be far better.
’This will also be a huge help for Anna and Claudia later... And maybe Laysa as well...’ He thought. ’If they hadn’t forgotten their dream to become the women’s world champion, they would have to be better, and this title is going to be a game-changer. Now, the question is... Will they be willing to let me help them?’
So many thoughts invaded his head, yet it seemed his body couldn’t survive anymore. He tightened his jacket more, trying to fight the cold that the car was. His eyes were half shutting, and if not for the constant humming of the engine, he would’ve gone to the dreamland already.
After passing through the rare no-traffic road of Jakarta, the car finally stopped, and once Sheva left the cab, he couldn’t help but take a deep breath, trying to remind himself of everything about this place.
It seemed that it had rained a few hours ago, and the smell of the wet soil mixed with the sound of the water still dripping down the nearest tree here was enough to trigger a small smile on him, as a thought flashed inside his head.
’Yeah, I am home...’
