Road to be the Best Chess Player in the World!-Chapter 542: Creating a Club (I)
Well, the plan was made, and since the girls were excited about it, Sheva didn’t have any reason to hold back. He transformed the backyard of his house into some sort of a gazebo, providing at least five sets of chessboards for them all to train, and bought a lot of online courses as a resource to help everyone get better.
Somehow, he transformed his house into the cheap version of Master Irfan’s house, where at least five people could still gather and use it to have fun.
As for the online courses he bought, it wasn’t just for the others, but for him as well. Even though he was proficient in a lot of opening systems, it would be good for him to hear the top players’ thoughts on a certain system, if not for helping him improve himself, at least it would also give him an idea of their train of thought.
Just as the old Chinese man said, know thyself, know thy enemy. A thousand battles, a thousand victories.
’Yeah, that is such a cool quote. Maybe I will have it as a caption when I post a new photo on my IG. Still, what kind of photo should I use? Oh, wait, I haven’t posted anything about the Prague one! Perfect!’ Sheva nodded at himself in satisfaction.
At this time, the demeanor of a genius couldn’t be seen in him, only a normal teenager who wanted to brag about his achievement on the Internet.
After preparing everything for about a few days, his house was finally ready to be turned into a chess house. His mother was also satisfied with this. Even though she didn’t say anything, Sheva knew that his mother was lonely. Now, with this, she would have a lot of people coming to the house and chatting with her, which could be considered a win-win solution here.
"Wait, your house even has a backyard?!" Laysa asked with eyes widened in shock. "How much money did Mister Anies spend on you?!" She turned to Sheva incredulously.
It had been two weeks since the idea to train together popped, and the girls gathered once again in Sheva’s house after the boy said that everything was ready. At first, they all thought that Sheva would just turn one of the rooms into a chess gym or something like that, similar to what Master Irfan had in his house.
But this...
"Well, I admit that I went a little bit overboard here." Sheva rubbed the back of his head sheepishly. "However, don’t you think that this is a nice environment to learn?"
The girls just nodded like a descent of woodpecker, and Sheva himself didn’t know whether they agreed with him or not. He himself also didn’t expect that the result would be this big. Well... He should have, since he spent a lot of money to set up everything in his backyard.
There was a huge gazebo set up nicely, with a shelf full of chess books, a smart TV connected to the internet, two laptops, and a set of sofas to add to the luxury of this new place. Honestly, if not for the chessboards and the chess books on the shelf, this would give the vibe of a nice and cozy café, something that Sheva could use if he decided to retire from chess.
However, he could feel his heart bleeding after he saw the total bill. In total, everything cost about 2500 US Dollars, which, in hindsight, wasn’t that much, but with Sheva’s poor mentality still remaining inside him, the boy just felt pity for spending that money in one go.
’No, no, no, I cannot be stingy to myself again. Remember what Bagas said: money is meant to be used. I just have to make sure to make some investments to keep it growing. Yeah, this is nothing...’ He shook his head strongly, trying to convince himself that everything would be okay.
Honestly, he should be the last person to worry about money. After all, his reward from the government after winning the gold medal in the Olympiad still remained, and coupled with the other tournaments he had won so far, it would take a stupidity at the size of an Everest for his family to fall into poverty again.
Oh, well... Sheva couldn’t really do anything about his worry. After all, poor mentality really could stick for the rest of his life.
"Wait, you also bought so many courses from the internet?!" Claudia’s jaw dropped when she saw the collection on his laptop. Anna and Laysa also checked over, wanting to know what shocked the youngest girl there.
"Yup! I find that some of them are quite interesting." Sheva smiled, remembering the courses that caught his attention. "The Najdorf one from Anish Giri and the Ruy-Lopez from Fabiano are well written, and the positional chess course from Peter Svidler also taught me a lot of things that I didn’t know before. Overall, I think it is a good haul." He smiled, somehow feeling so proud of himself.
"You even bought GothamChess’s Vienna Opening course?" Claudia raised her eyebrows slightly.
"Yeah, I mean, even though I wouldn’t really use it in a real game, the insight still helps me give an idea of how the low-level players think." Sheva nodded seriously. "I think... After my session with Devi, Duta, and Nayaka, I will spend some time teaching more players as well, so the insight of those great teachers is necessary."
Anna’s gaze softened as she heard that. The girl knew that while, indeed, Sheva benefited from buying all of these courses, the initial motivation was for them to help her and the girls improve further. He might not say it out loud, but his mention about wanting to be a teacher should be directed at them.
Laysa also seemed to notice the effort that Sheva poured here. It would be a lie if she said that she wasn’t touched here. Her gaze met Anna’s for a moment, and even without communicating verbally, they both knew what each other thought right now.
’With this kind of resource, we don’t really have any choice but to rise, huh?’
