Roadmap to the Boundless Sky-Chapter 171Book 3, : Report And Reward
Chen Chuan finished reading the information Wu Quan sent to him in a lounge and got the general gist of why Meng Huang did what he did.
It was for an active biosentient entity.
It was no wonder why Meng Huang had been so insistent on becoming the successor, then. Only successors and the company president had the right to come into contact with the company’s active biosentient entity.
At that moment, Chen Chuan couldn’t help but remember the thing attached to the Frost King Saber. What exactly was it? It had devoured the thing stretching out from the gap.
Were they the same?
For the time being, he wasn’t able to find anything similar.
But he was sure that the thing had come from Xiongjian Yi. That day, Gong Zhanyi had taken the risk to let Xiongjian Yi on his cruise ship, even though he was a criminal. It was likely Gong Zhanyi did it because of this.
Then, this thing might be connected to the Gong family. Perhaps it was even tied to Ferris Wheel. Chen Chuan wouldn’t even exclude the possibility of it being linked to the existences from the other world.
Still, he didn’t have to be too concerned about it. As of now, this thing only brought him good, and he could keep it restrained, so he didn’t plan to worry about it.
Honestly, it’d be fine even if it was an existence from the other world. He had already killed one. If there was something wrong with the thing, he could handle it.
After reading the information, Chen Chuan saw that there was a form he needed to fill out.
It asked him to write a report on the operation. Specifically, they wanted a detailed description of the existence, the fight itself, and the conclusion. It would be even better if he could include a video recording from his Realm Pass.
This time, there was no crowd watching the fight, unlike when he fought with Wei Wusheng, nor was there obvious evidence of his fight, like when he took down the Viper Order. There were no signs left of his fight against the existence from the other world, so he needed to provide a detailed report.
This was absolutely necessary. Aside from recording the operation in the system, it would also make it easy to check it in the future and prove that Chen Chuan had indeed taken part in the operation. The report would also be precious data for those who would inevitably need to fight against the existences in the future.
All the information Chen Chuan had read before this were forms filled out by other people, along with their conclusions of the fights. Some of them had died in their fights, so he treated the report with utmost earnestness. He wrote everything down, from the fight to the strategy he used.
But he also added something at the end.
There are certain strategies I use that are based on my strengths. I don’t suggest others emulate them.
After giving a detailed description of the fight, he noticed that he still had to answer some questions, such as giving a detailed assessment of the existence from the other world and whether it had displayed a clear personality or preferences.
This question seemed quite bizarre, as if it was treating the existence like a proper human being, but Chen Chuan had read the information the Resolution Department had given him. The question wasn’t meaningless.
The higher-ups had a theory that if the existences from the other world came to this world and obtained a host body, there was a certain possibility that they could gradually become part of this world.
The longer they stayed here, the more similar they would become to a human. They might even start thinking like humans. Once that happened, it was possible that they could no longer remember their true identity. The higher-ups even believed that some of the existences from the other world had long since blended into their world.
If that were true, then the infiltration by the existences from the other world was worse than Chen Chuan had imagined.
If he thought about it on a larger scale, did these existences only start infiltrating their world and attaching themselves to humans recently, when the two worlds were about to crash into each other? Or has this problem been present since the era of change began?
While they could be on guard against this phenomenon and identify the existences from the other world in the new era, those in the old era wouldn’t have been able to do it.
But this wasn’t any of Chen Chuan’s concern. The world governments could worry about it. After some thinking, he answered the question objectively, and the higher-ups could decide what exactly the existence he fought was.
Chen Chuan answered all the questions, but he froze for a bit when he arrived at the last one.
Did you feel as though the existence from the other world had improved significantly?
This question was debatable.
Chen Chuan thought about it. In the fight, Meng Huang’s movements were stiff and awkward. After all, he wasn’t a martial artist, and Chen Chuan did not give him much of a chance to show off his skills.
But Meng Huang had been making adjustments in unexpected ways throughout the fight. If he had been given more of it, he would have slowly come to master his strength.
If a large pseudo-human creature had a suitable method to use refined force, then taking it down would become much more difficult.
This was a wake-up call for Chen Chuan. He couldn’t say that such opponents didn’t exist, and fighting against large creatures was completely different from fighting against regular-sized humans. It required skill and certain weapons.
While he was thinking, he answered the last question and sent the form back. He also deleted all the information Wu Quan had sent him.
Then, he stood up, poured himself a cup of tea, and went to the balcony to admire the scenery. The refreshing autumn wind blew against his cheeks and made his hair flutter.
The leaves of the plants outside swayed like waves. Since the manor was located on high ground, he could even see the ocean in the distance, along with the large but blurry Central City. Above him were a few small, silver-white airships flying in the east and west.
A long while passed before he heard a beep. When he answered the call, Wu Quan said, “I’ve read your report, and I’ve filed it. Once this operation is over, the department will recognize your achievements and reward you.
“Also, I need to ask you this. Since you’ve signed the NDA, have you decided on whether you want to become part of the World Ring Defense Plan?”
“Of course,” Chen Chuan replied.
Even if he didn’t look for them on his own, those things were coming to their world, and Chen Chuan had a feeling that such cases were only going to increase as time went by. There was no good way to avoid them. So, instead of running away, it would be best to face them head-on.
“There’s going to be at least one defensive operation at the end of the year. It’ll be good for you to join, and it’ll also make it easier for you to apply for the special medicine,” Wu Quan said.
Chen Chuan understood what he was trying to imply. Even though he wasn’t lacking in special medicine right now, it would be beneficial for him to have more. Even if he wasn’t going to use it, such medicine was a high-value currency among martial artists. It was even more useful than money.
After some thinking, he asked, “Will I just need to fend off the existences from the other world when I’m there?”
“Most of the time, you need to be on guard against our own people,” Wu Quan answered grimly.
After ending the call, Chen Chuan stood still on the balcony for a long time. He only went back inside after finishing his tea.
Nothing else exciting happened after that day, but Chen Chuan believed that it was only calm on the surface. Border Fusion needed to get rid of all of Meng Huang’s supporters. Perhaps some Meng family members would get dragged down as well, but that had nothing to do with him.
The next day, a servant led Chen Chuan to Meng Shu. When he saw that she appeared much more relaxed compared to yesterday, he asked, “You’ve settled everything, then?”
“Grandfather said that he will officially announce that he’s stepping away from company matters at the end of the month, and he won’t manage the company anymore. I’ll be in charge,” Meng Shu replied.
“It seems like Mr. Meng is a man of his word,” Chen Chuan remarked.
As Meng Shu watched him, she said seriously, “I won’t go back on my promise to you either, Chen Chuan.”
Chen Chuan met her gaze and nodded.
Yan Yi walked over and handed him a letter. “Mr. Chen, Miss Shu found this and wants you to have it.”
“What’s this?”
“Trade records between Meng Huang and some island nations. He had some goods stashed on one of the islands, waiting to be traded. One of his subordinates told us about them. I believe that they’ll be useful for the Resolution Department,” Meng Shu said.
Chen Chuan knew what she was trying to do. If she handed the records to the Resolution Department, she would be giving a simple statement of the company’s stance, while if Chen Chuan did it, he might be able to claim credit for it, and Meng Shu would still have made her stance.
Chen Chuan took the letter without any pretentiousness. “I’ll bring it to the department.”
“Miss Shu has decided to give you the special medicine allocated to Meng Huang as well,” Yan Yi then said.
“Don’t you want to hire other martial artists?” Chen Chuan asked.
“It’s clear that they’re not as reliable as you are. Besides, the board of directors has its own resources, and what they have is enough for us all,” Yan Yi answered.
“You’ve been out here for a long time. You should go back and rest. Aunt Yu and Grandfather’s security guards are here, so I should be fine for now,” Meng Shu said.
Chen Chuan knew that she was giving him a break. He had indeed been working for her for quite some time and had some things he needed to take care of. So, he contacted the Resolution Department, and they immediately agreed to let him take a break. After all, as long as Meng Shu didn’t leave the manor, she would be fine, unless, of course, someone by her side turned traitor. The security in White Bird District was so tight that the safety of the people living inside it was guaranteed.
Once Chen Chuan got his leave approved, he handed over his security responsibilities and took the car Yan Yi had arranged for him to return to Central City.
On the way back, he received a message that Meng Shu had transferred six hundred thousand devs as a reward for him. She also said that the house had already been transferred under his name. All he needed to do was to sign a form to confirm his ownership of the place.
Chen Chuan took a look. The house was located in Martial Order District and wasn’t far from the university. It was quite close to the place where he had sparred against the disciples of the martial arts families. If he drove there, he would only need around six minutes to do so.
The most high-class residential area in Central City was White Bird District, followed by Shang Hill of Majestic Light District and Motie Mountain in the south. Most of the residents of Shang Hill were important government officials, while Motie Mountain was filled with famous people and the upper-class.
Even though the location of Chen Chuan’s house wasn’t considered among the top, it was surrounded by martial artists with high social standings. Perhaps because of this, the layout of his house was also based on the habits of a martial artist, and it fit his preferences.
As he pondered over this, he signed the property ownership agreement on his Realm Pass and asked the driver to get off the flyover so that he could check out the house.
