Roadmap to the Boundless Sky-Chapter 189Book 3, : Ambush
After the conversation with Yan Yi, Chen Chuan got ready to head to White Bird District, but suddenly, his phone rang.
He went over and answered it, “Chen Chuan speaking.”
“Chen Chuan? It’s me, Luo Kaiyuan.” A familiar voice came through the speaker.
“Luo Kaiyuan?” Chen Chuan was surprised but delighted. It showed in his smile as he asked, “It’s not your day off, so what led to you calling me? Did something happen?”
“All three of us passed the Class C unrestricted defense permit test, but only one person will get to go to the main campus this year. Wei Dong got recommended,” Luo Kaiyuan stated.
Wei Dong did?
Chen Chuan was surprised once again, but after some thinking, it made sense. While Wei Dong was a little rash, he was the most talented one in their friend group.
This meant Wei Dong was going to come to the main campus next year.
Luo Kaiyuan continued, “While Xiaoqi and I didn’t get recommended, we discussed it and decided not to stay in Yangzhi City. We’re coming to Central City too.”
Chen Chuan’s smile turned even brighter. “That’s great! When are you coming?”
While Luo Kaiyuan and Feng Xiaoqi wouldn’t be able to become citizens, the resources they could get here were still going to be much higher than in Yangzhi City.
Chen Chuan would even go as far as to say that if they stayed in Yangzhi City, they would be stuck at the Second Limit for the rest of their lives, while if they came to Central City, they might reach the Third Limit.
After all, the ones who stayed on the seventh floor were the most talented first-class students among Chen Chuan’s batch. They could be said to be the most outstanding in all of Yangzhi City’s Martial Valor University.
And once they became Third Limit martial artists, they wouldn’t have a problem becoming citizens.
“Wei Dong is going to Central City next year, so we’ll be going with him.”
“Alright. I’ll go back during the New Year. Let’s hash out the details then.”
“Sure. By the way, the Aspiration Club told me that someone has been asking around for your information,” Luo Kaiyuan said.
“Oh? Is that so?” Surprise flickered in his eyes.
“Yes, and I don’t think they’re Yangzhi City locals. Otherwise, they wouldn’t be asking those questions. Be careful.”
“Got it. Thanks, and thank the Aspiration Club for me, will you?” Chen Chuan asked.
They talked about other things before hanging up. Then, Chen Chuan received a message on his Realm Pass telling him that the company’s car had arrived.
He packed up a bit, grabbed the Frost King Saber, and went downstairs to go to the car headed for White Bird District.
On his way there, Wu Quan contacted him and reminded him that while Meng Huang’s supporters in the company had been culled, many people and the interests of multiple parties were involved in Meng Huang’s case. Hence, some people might still cause trouble over the next few days. He then told Chen Chuan to be careful.
“Got it,” Chen Chuan said.
Ever since learning that someone was stalking him when he came back from the lower city district, Chen Chuan had been on high alert, though nothing similar happened after that.
But just now, Luo Kaiyuan had told him that someone had been asking around for his information, and Chen Chuan had a hunch that it was the same group of people. This meant that they hadn’t given up and were digging deep into his background.
“Director Wu, I’d like to request permission to use all public Realm Nodes tomorrow for my resonator,” he said after some thinking.
“It’s only right to be careful. We’ll also be paying extra attention to the briefing the day after tomorrow, but you know the situation at the department. Due to the gap at the World Ring, the officers we sent for defense are still stuck there and can’t come back. We also need to keep some as backup to deal with special situations.
“The officers stationed around the area also have their own duties. They can’t leave their stations unless they see something bad happening. So, if you run into trouble, do your best to stall. I’m going to repeat myself, though: If you can’t handle it, retreat and forget about the others.”
“I know, Director Wu,” Chen Chuan promised.
He heard a beep from his Realm Pass; Wu Quan had sent a map to him. It had a route marked with dotted lines.
“We believe this to be the best route, and we suggest you use it. If you run into trouble while taking it, the officers stationed in the area will be able to quickly arrive to aid you,” Wu Quan stated.
Chen Chuan took a close look at the route. Even though it set up quite a detour, it was much safer. Still, it had one flaw.
After some thinking, he marked a section on the route.

The car arrived smoothly at White Bird District. When it drove into Meng Lai’s manor, Chen Chuan noticed that there were a lot more security guards compared to last time. Multiple armored cars were parked in the courtyard, and the damaged corner had been repaired.
When Chen Chuan got out of the car, Yan Yi was already waiting for him. After greeting him, she brought him into the building. While they were in the elevator, Yan Yi said, “We’ve prepared the criminal you requested, Mr. Chen.”
“Thanks,” Chen Chuan said.
Yan Yi was reliable at her job. Even though he hadn’t reminded her to get one before coming and she didn’t know why Chen Chuan required the criminals, she still prepared one for him.
Once they went upstairs, Chen Chuan met Meng Shu and sent her the route the Resolution Department had given him.
“I checked the Resolution Department’s route, and I think it’s feasible, but we need to pay attention to a certain stretch. We need to be ready for an ambush while on the way to the company, but lately, someone has been watching me, so you might not be the target this time,” he said.
“You’re the company’s security advisor. Whether they target you or me doesn’t make much of a difference. If necessary, I can change the time I take over the company,” Meng Shu declared.
Chen Chuan was the strongest martial force that Border Fusion and she could rely on. If he were no longer around, her pillar of support would be gone. That was why if someone targeted Chen Chuan, they were also targeting her and the company. It was all the same in essence.
After giving it some consideration, Chen Chuan said, “If they’re only targeting me, then it’s a simple matter. If they’re targeting you, then even if you manage to avoid their attack this time, you’ll get attacked again. You’ll just be postponing this conflict, not resolving it.
“I suggest getting rid of this threat now, since they’re still willing to show up to attack us.”
“What do you need us to do? I’ll have the security guards coordinate with you,” Meng Shu stated.
“You can go with your usual security arrangements. If we run into enemies, I’ll take the initiative to attack. Then, you won’t be protected. I suggest bringing Aunt Yu to be in charge of your safety,” Chen Chuan said.
Meng Lai needed protection as the former head of the company, but his safety was no longer that important. Besides, the Meng Lai they saw in public was a body controlled by a Consciousness Regulator, and only Meng Shu knew where his real body was. Even if Meng Lai was destroyed, it would be fine.
“I’ll talk to Grandfather,” Meng Shu said with a nod.
They discussed it a little more to hash out the details. Then, Chen Chuan went back to his room.
He stayed there for the day and took another dose of special medicine.
Perhaps it was because he had just reached the Third Limit, but the effects of the medicine were great. He felt that he improved a little whenever he took a dose.
Chen Chuan had considered the possibility that the medicine’s effects would drop gradually as he continued using it, but for now, he didn’t need to worry about it. As long as he kept growing stronger, he could find more ways to improve.

On the nineteenth of November, a motorcade drove out of Meng Lai’s manor and headed to Border Fusion.
This time, Chen Chuan didn’t sit together with Meng Shu. Instead, he sat in the car behind hers. This way, they could avoid the possibility of being attacked at the same time. The two cars were modified, and if something did go wrong, he could react to the danger in time.
Several cars drove off ten minutes ahead of the motorcade. Every three minutes, they sent a message back to report the situation ahead.
After around forty-five minutes, the motorcade left White Bird District and got on the flyover across the sea.
When they passed the highest point, entered its second half, and were twenty minutes away from Central City’s main area, the security guards ahead of the motorcade noticed something and looked up.
A number of black dots were flying toward them.
At first, they thought they were birds, but after taking a closer look, they found that they were people wearing gliders. Based on the distance and height, they had come from the rooftops of the buildings by the beach.
Realizing that this might be a problem, they immediately reported the situation to the motorcade behind them.
The people in the sky were adjusting their direction nonstop and soon approached the flyover. A few of them flew over the cars in the lead and headed straight to the back. When they passed by, they threw tire spikes on the flyover.
One of them wore a special Realm Pass. He looked down at the motorcade and scanned it for a while before saying, “Based on the analysis, the target is in the twenty-second car, while the target’s ward is in the twenty-first car.”
“Carry out Plan No. Two. Attack those two cars and all the cars around them,” Big Sis Huan ordered.
While their target was Chen Chuan, they also attacked Meng Shu’s car, because this was the only way to make sure he didn’t run.
“Roger!”
The unit at the front was already nearby. Their parachutes opened with a loud fwoop. After a brief resistance, they quickly removed the hooks and jumped down, landing on the roofs of the moving cars and ground. With just a slight bend of the knees, they negated the impact.
One of the team members looked up and saw that the target’s car was only a little over twenty meters away. With a swing of his arm, he threw a few custom-made smoke and normal grenades. Explosions tore through the air, and the flyover was covered in smoke, sparks, and thunderous explosions.
