Roadmap to the Boundless Sky-Chapter 36Book 3, : Get Rid Of The Problem
Book 3, Chapter 36: Get Rid Of The Problem
As Chen Chuan got closer to the explosion site, he occasionally heard intense gunfire in the distance. The streets were filled with people running away in a panic. In some places, cars had even collided with each other.
Just then, the ornamental trees on the sides trembled, and fist-sized insects with strong mandibles and blade-like prolegs flew out from them. They started circling the shops and scaring everyone passing by into staying away.
They were Harvesters, a bio-weapon from Compound Eyes.
These bio-weapons aided with city defense, but they only watched over certain places. In other words, only shops and houses that were under the security program had their protection. As for the rest, the bio-weapons would ignore them all and would instead attack those trying to get closer to them.
Chen Chuan looked away and checked his Realm Pass. Taowo Market was a secondhand supermarket. He didn’t know why the attackers chose to bomb the place. After all, those who could shop there weren’t rich people, and most of the goods inside were secondhand. Not too far away, though, was a barter shop, which had a lot of valuable goods.
After turning another corner, Chen Chuan saw the market. It was a five-story building. The City Patrol had already surrounded the place but were hiding behind cars and buildings. The attackers seemed to be good shots, because the City Patrol didn’t dare to even move out from behind their hiding spots.
There were many members of the City Patrol present. They were supposed to have one team attract the attackers’ attention while the other team charged in from another direction, but based on news on the information portal, two of the attackers were Second Limit martial artists, so no one wanted to go up.
Even a Second Limit martial artist would have a hard time ensuring their own safety if they tried to seize an armed martial artist covered in protective gear. Because of this, the City Patrol had decided to wait for someone capable of handling the situation. In any case, the patrol platform had already informed them that someone capable of taking those martial artists out was on his way.
When Chen Chuan arrived and the City Patrol saw his identity through their Realm Passes, they sighed in relief.
With the Frost King Saber in hand, he walked over and stood still in front of the market as he looked up. There were a few holes in the second floor’s windows, along with a few people moving quickly behind them.
The explosion should have occurred on the third floor, because black plumes of smoke were still rolling out of that place. Even so, the light shows formed by ribbons of light were still around. In front of the market was a figure-eight-shaped flying disc circling around it. It shone with the colors of the rainbow while playing all sorts of advertisements.
All the people had already fled, so the advertisements were being played repeatedly to an empty street.
Based on what Chen Chuan learned so far, the four attackers were stationed on each cardinal direction of the second floor. However, he could hear the faint sounds of an argument from them. It seemed like they were quarrelling with each other, and one side was blaming the other for something.
Just then, Chen Chuan sensed something. He brought his hand up and grabbed something that made his palm tremble. By his ear, he heard a loud blast, and the street seemed to vibrate in response.
A bullet fell out of his hand and landed by his feet with a clear clatter. It was followed swiftly by urgent and enraged shouts from the market.
Chen Chuan let his hand fall down and looked up. Then, he lowered his center of gravity. The next moment, he vanished from the spot. The City Patrol guards thought they saw a blur. Immediately after, one of the glass windows on the second floor shattered.
This time, Chen Chuan decided to break in from the front. He jumped up and instantly reached the second floor. When he broke in, countless shards flew in along with him.
Two of the attackers had their guns trained outside. When they saw the glass shards charging at them, they didn’t even blink and trained their guns at him while pulling the trigger.
Chen Chuan didn’t dodge and just let the bullets land on him. They slid off of him, and when his feet landed, the tiles cracked as he shot toward one of the shooters.
The Frost King Saber’s hilt rammed into the man, and his body was forced into a forward bend before he was sent flying.
Behind the shooter was a toned man. Clearly, he was one of the martial artists and one of Chen Chuan’s priorities.
When the man saw him, he didn’t avoid the charge. With bloodshot eyes, he glared at Chen Chuan, making it obvious that he was under the influence of some sort of medication.
Once Chen Chuan was within his attack range, he roared and thrust forward with a knife.
But in Chen Chuan’s eyes, even after the man had taken medicine, he was still much slower than he was. He brought his hand up and grabbed the man’s arm before yanking him off the floor and throwing him down.
With a loud crash, spiderweb-like cracks formed on the floor where the man landed. Interstitial fluid and blood gushed out of his mouth and nose. His implants and armor plates all shattered from the crash and the refined force Chen Chuan had blasted into him.
As Chen Chuan changed direction, the remaining two men turned their guns on him and started firing desperately.
Chen Chuan didn’t stand still, though. He rushed at the other martial artist. The man didn’t seem to care about what had happened to his companion. When he saw Chen Chuan getting closer, he threw his gun away, drew his expandable baton from his waist, and ran at Chen Chuan.
Halfway through, he stopped, because the sheathed Frost King Saber had pierced through his stomach. However, due to medicine and implants, he was still able to fight. He grabbed the sheath tightly with one hand, while he used the other to remove the rifle from his back and bring the muzzle up.
Chen Chuan turned swiftly to the side and withdrew the Frost King Saber. With a spin, the saber flashed, and the martial artist’s head flew into the air.
At the same time, Chen Chuan flung his arm in another direction, and a stone flew out, hitting the final attacker hiding behind a shelf so hard that his head was thrown back. The skin and flesh on his forehead were blasted apart, revealing the strengthened skull underneath. He swayed like a drunk man for a few moments before collapsing on the floor.
Chen Chuan then slotted the Frost King Saber back into the sheath behind him.
Shing.
With the saber back in its sheath, he grabbed the hilt and pulled it out of the martial artist’s body. The headless corpse it had been attached to swayed a bit before falling on the floor.
Chen Chuan looked around and found eight other corpses on the floor. They should’ve been customers of the establishment. Not far away was a secondhand implant store. The owner’s head had been blasted open. The bullet should have been fired at him through the narrow trade window, because the goods on the shelf of his store were still in good condition, and Chen Chuan saw no signs of the place being robbed.
Once he was certain that there were no other attackers, he connected to the Resolution Department’s platform through his Realm Pass and reported, “The attackers have been taken out. Please come and retrieve their corpses.”
The biosentient entity’s dull voice immediately replied, “Understood. Confirming the situation. Sending an application to the Resolution Department. Please wait a moment.”
In just a moment, Chen Chuan heard Ni Qianqian’s voice. “Not bad, Chen Chuan. You managed to take them all out already? You’re much more proactive than the other two we’re assisting. I have high hopes for you.”
Chen Chuan went to the window and looked into the distance as he said, “I have a feeling that there were more than just these four attackers.”
Based on their weapons and equipment, the attack on the market wasn’t a spontaneous decision. Yet there was no reason for them to go after a secondhand market.
“Very observant. We tracked down their comrades. They were making a major trade today, and our colleagues took them out. Confirm the situation on your Realm Pass, and you’ll be free to leave. The City Patrol will take care of the rest,” Ni Qianqian stated.
“Okay,” Chen Chuan said. He did as he was told and left the market.
“One more thing, Chen Chuan. The Resolution Department has set up an account for you on the trading platform and sent you some money. They also sent you some items. I didn’t think you’d have the time to collect them, so I sent them to the university. Remember to receive them when you’re back,” Ni Qianqian continued.
“Money? What’s it for?” Chen Chuan was quite surprised. The Resolution Department’s sponsorship was in the form of providing him with all sorts of benefits in terms of martial arts training and supporting him in his studies. There was no mention of giving him money in it.
“Didn’t Gong Zhanyi’s security team fire at you?” Ni Qianqian asked matter-of-factly. “How dare they shoot at a member of the Resolution Department? We had to hold them accountable for that, so he gave the department money as an apology. This money is compensation to you. Don’t worry. This is all according to the rules.”
While the Gong family had stated that they didn’t know that Chen Chuan was from the Resolution Department and only shot at him because they wanted to kill Xiongjian Yi, the problem lay in them launching a domain interference. The criminal had also been sitting among them in the motorcade, which spoke volumes. That was why if they didn’t pay a price for their actions, they wouldn’t be able to get out of this mess.
Once Chen Chuan understood the origins of the money, he thanked Ni Qianqian and ended the call, then located a tram station nearby and returned to the Arcane Palace.
He returned to the dorm past 8 p.m.. The parcel had already arrived, and he signed the receipt on his Realm Pass. Upon opening it, he saw a custom-made Resolution Department uniform.
It was no normal uniform. It had protective capabilities, and it was designed similarly to the military’s uniform, thus appearing crisp and well-fitted. Along with it was a smock that could cover most of his body. On top of it was a wide-brimmed hat that came with a full-face mask.
The Resolution Department had also sent him an external Realm Pass. It was much better than Chen Chuan’s Premium Jade Model, and its price was in the five digits.
This Realm Pass had a neck guard and only a thin membrane to cover the face. It could fit perfectly underneath the mask, and it also had a lot more functions, such as identifying certain unique scents, being able to see projected images of people through the help of various platforms, and hear sounds in the distance.
For example, Chen Chuan would have been able to hear the attackers’ conversation if he used this Realm Pass earlier in the day. It was really practical and meant to make a law enforcer’s life easier.
After that, Chen Chuan checked his account and found an extra ten thousand devs. This was quite a large amount of money that he got for free. If that was the case... could he apply for a Radiant Light session through the university with this money?
