Chapter 405: The King’s Return

Mastrax cheered before throwing his arms around Ackster and landing a peck on the latter’s cheek, which earned him dark gazes from Mio, Karandiel, Mara, and Anatol. Out of all the people to steal a march on them, it was the crazy old dragon? It wasn’t even Wilma, who still didn’t know what she felt. It was fucking Mastrax, of all people.

But Mastrax couldn’t be bothered with them. He turned around and looked at the ocean. He put two fingers in his mouth and whistled.

After a few terse moments, the world trembled. This time, it wasn’t because the world was afraid, like when the Sword God was about to attack, or because of some bastards attacking its barriers.

The world shook, and the ocean waved because of an impact to its surface that wasn’t an attack.

Ackster narrowed his eyes as he looked beyond the horizon and caught sight of Mastrax’s trump card.

’Yikes.’

Ackster understood why Mastrax was so excited. It would have taken a lot to prepare that thing. It was only natural that the old dragon wanted to play with it.

"Ahahha!"

Mastrax laughed like a madman as the source of the stomps came close enough for everyone to see it. It was just that, due to its size, it didn’t need to come close. Even when it was several leagues away, even the weakest of the ones present could see the humongous being.

The gods of the Celestial Realm narrowed their eyes.

<What the fuck is that?>

"Your doom!"

Mastrax answered Yillister’s question with a cackle.

"Is that Paradise?"

Mara and the others, who had accompanied Ackster when they picked up Mastrax, recognized the landmass. It was Mastrax’s island that he used as a mobile lab and trap to gather test subjects and stock up on his army of walking dead.

Apparently, it wasn’t just an island.

It was a tortoise. It was just as big as an island.

"Miahaha! The Divine Armored Tortoise King makes his return!"

In response to Mastrax’s excited laughter, the Tortoise King opened its mouth wide and roared.

Ackster wasn’t sure if tortoises usually roared. But the Tortoise King’s size and otherwise irregular physiology made the regular behavior of tortoises irrelevant. Besides, it wasn’t just the Tortoise King.

It was the reanimated Tortoise King that Mastrax had spent who knows how long fixing up and tinkering with. Considering the dragon’s excitement, Ackster wouldn’t be surprised if the former had thrown in a heap of various modifications just to make the Tortoise King even more powerful.

The Tortoise King’s roar shook the heavens and blew back the angel armies. But the gods themselves and Ackster’s party were fine.

<Tch.>

Yilister clicked his tongue and summoned a golden halberd. The Tortoise King had ruffled his hair with its roar.

Yillister raised his halberd straight up, where a projection of light the size of a watch tower grew into existence.

Like an executioner, Yillister dropped the halberd straight down. The oversized projection mimicked the movement and crashed down on the Tortoise King’s head.

Only to the surprise of Mastrax did the halberd make a dent in the skull that crashed almost to the ground. Mastrax’s jaw hung slack as he watched in shock as Yillister raised his halberd again.

It seemed like his prized trump card wasn’t as great as he thought it was.

But Mastrax wasn’t going to just give up. He urged the Tortoise King to lift his head and fight back, which it tried to do. However, Yillister was too strong.

Or rather, Mastrax’s reanimation wasn’t perfect. His vitality was endless and powerful.

But the Divine Armored Tortoise King was a mythical beast that reigned supreme in the days of old, possibly even before the Calamitous Cycles. Mastrax’s vitality was like trying to power a truck with a common household battery.

Ackster patted Mastrax on the shoulder when the Tortoise King couldn’t resist Yillister’s attacks. Mastrax turned to Ackster with teary eyes and tried to say something. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚

Before Mastrax could even stutter a plea for Ackster to save the Tortoise King, Ackster had already conjured a condensed ball of pure power, the likes of which stunned the gods of the Celestial Realm.

Ackster had extracted a portion of his Ichor, which had grown tremendously after the inclusion of world power. He had yet to refine the cosmic power. But that was a step too much for the current Tortoise King, anyway.

Ackster handed over the swirling ball of gold, black, and red light to Mastrax, who tossed it over to the Tortoise King and made it swallow the ball.

Ackster was a little curious about the red part of his Ichor, but it wasn’t harmful, so he let it be. Instead of worrying about that, he watched as the Tortoise King glowed. The dirt, trees, and plants on its back fell off as it shook its body and unleashed another roar toward the heavens.

The Tortoise King’s head recovered. Even old wounds that Mastrax hadn’t been able to repair healed under the baptism of Ackster’s Ichor.

The Divine Armored Tortoise King regained the splendor it had in its prime, and the world celebrated. One of the original champions of Millmeria from before the Calamitous Cycles had returned!

Thanks to Ackster’s Ichor, the Tortoise King was finally able to unleash the strength it had when it was still alive. With speed unfitting of its size and biology, the Tortoise King’s head shot forward and ate the God of Light, Yillister.

However, a moment later, a flash of light escaped through the Tortoise King’s nostril and assumed the form of a weary, blond man with an insufferable appearance. Yillister had managed to escape.

<Fucking beast, know your place.>

But it had taken a toll on Yillister.

The God of Light glared at the Tortoise King for a moment, weighing his options. He had needed to expend a large portion of his power just to escape the Tortoise King’s mouth. With the Tortoise King’s current strength, Yillister wasn’t sure if he could defeat it.

But at the same time, he couldn’t just flee. If there was any indication in the past, the new god, Ackster, or whatever his name was, would just grow stronger in the future. If they wanted to deal with him and set the hierarchy straight or dispose of an impertinent newcomer, now was their best chance.

<Are you just going to stand there and watch?>

Yillister glared at the other gods.
