Rotting Land: Survive-Chapter 415 - 413: Purgatory on Earth (Part 3)
"Bo-boss... it’s over, the gate is blocked, we can’t get out!" Watching the beasts rush towards the south gate, the subordinate stammered in despair.
"Damn it, do I look blind to you? Why the hell are you blabbering!" At this moment, Dai Sha was extremely irritated. He had planned to break through the south gate, but now...
"That damned Zhao Huilong! Ruining my plans! Bastard, I should have shot him back then!"
Even though he cursed, Dai Sha’s mind was still racing with ideas for escape. After all, the ability that brought him from an ordinary citizen to the head of a base was no fluke.
Surveying the dire state of the base, he immediately noticed that there were fewer zombies at the North Gate, so without hesitation, he ordered his men to get in the cars and break out.
"Quick, quick, quick! While those idiots are holding them off, we’re heading for the North Gate!"
The boss had spoken, and the underlings immediately obeyed. Two military trucks, one in front of the other, "roared" as they sped towards the North Gate.
Creatures along the way that dared to block them were crushed mercilessly under the mighty "iron hooves" of the military trucks. Scar’s group reached the foot of the North Gate in no time.
"You! You! Get down and open the gate!" Dai Sha casually pointed at two underlings, instructing them to open the gate.
The subordinates were naturally reluctant, but under the threat of guns, they had no choice but to jump out of the trucks.
"Bang, bang!" Solving a few mindless beasts at the gate, Dai Sha pressed on loudly, "Hurry the hell up! Or we’re all going to end up as chow!"
Cursing silently in his heart, the underlings quickened their pace to the gate. Knowing the gravity of the situation, they dared not delay any further, hurriedly unbolting the gate, preparing to open it.
"Damn it! As long as there’s life, there’s hope," as he watched the gate about to open, Dai Sha looked back reluctantly at the playground behind him.
No matter what, this was the place where his dream began.
But at this moment, his dream was destined to shatter.
Yet, as he just stated, broken dreams didn’t matter; as long as he was alive, he could rise again.
Dai Sha had already begun envisioning future developments. Next time, he would learn from this lesson — enemies must be uprooted completely, leaving no threats behind.
Just as Dai Sha was dreaming of a brighter future, desperate screams came from the front gate!
"Oh my God! Help!"
Whipping his head back, cold sweat drenched Dai Sha’s face in an instant.
Through the half-open gate, heads pushed urgently inwards, and almost instantaneously, a massive flow of zombies crashed entirely through the half-open North Gate.
"Retreat! Damn it, retreat!" Without a second thought, Dai Sha pounded fiercely on the army truck’s dashboard, at a speed and frequency that made one worry if he might break it.
The worst fate awaited the two subordinates opening the gate; faced with death, they unleashed every bit of their potential.
Technically, had Dai Sha and the others waited, these two "unlucky souls" could have climbed onto the truck.
But who was Dai Sha? Would he risk his life to save his subordinates?
Obviously, that was impossible.
From the moment he saw the horde of beasts gathering outside the gate, his first reaction was to decide to let those two be the sacrificial lambs.
The zombie tide surged in like locusts; you can imagine that the gunfire, screams, and the lingering scent of blood, all acted as bait, drawing creatures from the surrounding streets of the stadium.
They had been eagerly waiting outside for so long, and now, Dai Sha, the leader, undeniably granted them the opportunity to feast inside.
It was a truly ironic situation because ultimately, the person who most wanted to escape ended up being the final hand that sealed the base’s downfall.
Dai Sha felt utterly speechless, cursing inwardly.
As the saying goes, "He who succeeds will also cause failure," Dai Sha’s vehicle moved swiftly in reverse, yet the deaths of two subordinates barely slowed the advance of the zombie horde.
Seeing the advancing zombie crowd, an intense ruthlessness flickered in Dai Sha’s eyes, consumed by anxiety.
"Damn it, give me the gun!" Grabbing another automatic rifle, Dai Sha didn’t hesitate and sprayed bullets wildly at the tire of the truck in front.
After stopping the vehicle with gunfire, he raised the gun again, shamelessly aiming at the comrades who had fought shoulder to shoulder with him.
"Rat-tat-tat! Rat-tat-tat!" Engaged in fierce combat, his closest confidants never imagined that the boss, who once promised them a life of luxury in both joy and hardship, would turn against them at this critical moment.
But they surely didn’t have the chance to question the boss anymore, as the cold bullets had already ended their lives.
Watching comrades mowed down by machine gun fire in the leading vehicle, the rest of the underlings wore expressions of disbelief, staring at the man before them.
Fear! Panic! Shock! Some even subconsciously raised their guns, aiming at Dai Sha’s back.
However, with a commanding shout, the inkling of rebellion in their hearts was replaced instantly by the instinct to survive.
"What are you all standing there for?! Use them as cover and break through the other two gates for me!"
Yeah! They’re dead! Doesn’t that give us more time to escape?
With the belief that it’s better for someone else to die than yourself! Underlings swiftly squashed any reluctance, as the group began desperately fleeing towards the remaining west and east gates.
However, reaching such a desperate state, escaping this besieged city was no easy task.
Especially with beasts marked on them from behind, the only way to escape would be to grow wings and fly; otherwise, being surrounded and torn apart was just a matter of time.
Driven by the instinct to survive, Dai Sha led his group, frantically firing all their ammunition, bullets of various calibers shooting like a swarm of bees in all directions.
Waves of zombies fell under the dense firepower, but even more poured in to take their place.
"Goddamn it, why’s the truck stopped?" Feeling the immobility of the vehicle, Dai Sha shouted angrily, while his underlings, busy shooting, were equally bewildered.
When they collectively looked towards the driver’s cabin, a chilling despair etched onto each face.
The "Climber" had somehow mounted the vehicle, and more critically, its front half had already entered the cabin.
Gazing through the side mirror of the driver’s cabin, a rear subordinate couldn’t help but murmur in shock, "We’re doomed! The zombie bit him dead!"
In his wildest dreams, Dai Sha never thought these beasts had such capabilities, managing to strike the truck amidst such speed and firepower and eat the driver inside the cabin.
An overwhelming sense of frustration welled up within him again as he slowly looked at the subordinates next to him, then coldly stated without any emotion, "You, go down and drive!!"
