Ruling as the Next Dragon Sage!-Chapter 79: War Ready
The spirit blade came into contact with my skin, but with a sudden halt. There wasn’t any other impending effect, it was as if the dungeon boss pulled it’s punch last moment. But it was quite the opposite, actually.
I rendered it completely useless.
Lightning pulsed from my hands, in the next instant, the dungeon boss was suddenly struck multiple times at the core, being pushed back into another monument that later crashed upon it.
I landed, gracefully. One foot first, then the other. [Static Burst] on appearance might just seem like a weaker [Lightspark] or [Touch of Lightning], but [Static Burst] gives me the passive of increased [Lightning] magic for the coming moments. By a whopping 40%.
That means that not only do I cancel out King Skeleton’s damage reduction through it’s Spirit Magic that it pirated from Vaniti, but I also get to do devastating damage. It doesn’t last long, however, which means I need to end this now.
Just long enough until Vaniti is freed from the DPS-lock, then, I’ll settle the score with Sultan and Koga once and for all—yeah, that’s the plan.
King Skeleton got back up, disarmed, and missing only half of his blades. Through his lower two hands, he formed one of Vaniti’s spells, [White Spirit Sword], which also made it harder, technically, to get through with.
I would be lying if I say I forgot it could do that, but it wasn’t anything [Dragon’s Authority: Data Reversal] didn’t let me know in advance already. With that being said, I can already tell that King Skeleton’s options are running short.
The ground trembled, and I jumped quickly. Bones erupted from the ground after my last spot, and I continued to prance around from one spot to the next—dodging the bones. Flying is a no go, he would punish me out of the air like a fly.
He’s keeping me grounded, good for them. But I already know how to get around this.
A line of bones rose from the ground, a straight wall to defend the dungeon boss with. I quickly held out my hand, silver mana floating alongside my fingers before becoming raven-black flames. I burned the bones away, and from the flames I emerged with lightning at my fingertips again.
I dodged the initial slash, then baited its aggro—er, no, that doesn’t happen anymore. I basically fainted with one weak minor [Lightning] spell.
"Zeo!"
I formed a finger gun as a yellow lightning spark shot out from my finger. It didn’t do much damage, but since King Skeleton registered it as an official attack, that means it’s mixups or now limited.
He’s looking for the punish, again.
And I know which one it’s going to be.
I stand, right then there, as it raises all four blades in the air, and it stays. A long wind-up, it looks directly at me. Maybe into my soul. Maybe into my true self. If that were the case, it would also see him as well.
The Dawn.
Then, with hyper-precision, it executed quickly. I slid below all four blades as I got back up on my feet and kicked into flight, remaining low before I rose before its face, spinning as I did so.
With momentum, I landed an upward kick right at its chin. A crack could be heard, which was later overshoweded by a large boom. The Skeleton was launched into the air, high and mighty.
I chased after it, but halted a short moment. I need to be a great distance above the ground. This next spell I’m going to land will require a large area, and the sky is perfect for it.
There, I clap my hands together and watch lightning connect each of my fingertips. I pour more mana into this than usual. This will have a profound impact in more ways than one.
"Plus...Mega—no, Ultra Touch of Lightning!"
I point my palms open towards the Skeleton King, and a triumphant grin appears on my face. It’s going to be over. The sound of thunder was heard, and the flash of lightning emerged from the clouds above.
With this, [Touch of Lightning] received an additional multiplier from my chanting. The Ultra will gift it a generous 200% increase of damage, this is only possible because I have the mana to spend it. Even after my stunt I pulled with Cloudjumper earlier.
There, it was several lightning strikes that continuously hit King Skeleton one after the other, creating explosions one right after the other. The last one, came with a great boom from the clouds, the thunder was loud enough to even I felt like a TnT went off near me.
One large lightning bolt descended from the skies right as Skeleton King felt gravity pulling it down towards earth again. Once it made contact, there was a large white flash that I even had to cover my eyes for.
An even louder explosion could be heard, and I was blown back considerably. Freefalling through the air before I opened my eyes again and managed to land on the ground in time, perfectly sliding as my hand went across the ground.
I looked up, and then all I saw was a large black cloud. Before I knew it, individual bones fell from the sky. My head snapped towards Vaniti, and the void-black bone that one pierced her began to fade away.
I gave out a breath of relief, good.
With that, I did so much damage that I overran its protection-damage skill. Usually, once you do a lot of damage within a certain amount of time, it would activate its emergency escape move, as it had done with Vaniti earlier.
But, and the funny thing is, if you could find a way to reset it and limit the amount of damage you do, technically, you would never make it activate it’s emergency escape move. Crazy, I know.
That’s why I saved [Ultra Touch of Lightning] for last, and used [Static Burst] rather than [Lightspark]. [Zeo], also came in clutch for the minor damage I needed to be sure I could one-shot the rest of the boss.
As I made my way towards Vaniti gliding, the bones that encamped around us began to fall apart and fade away, as well as the bones that were falling in the sky. I dodged most of them, already saw that coming too.
By the time I made it to Vaniti, my foot touched solid ground before I outstretched my hand towards her, but pulled back. No, no, can’t do.
"You’re fine, right? Nothing hurt—nothing—" She nods, already cutting me off. A hand is at her side, but when she lets go, there’s nothing.
"It was...weird, but I’m fine. My magic, though, it feels...weak." She admits. Her pointed ears twitch as she regards the change. Her hand move, her fingers curl, she’s trying to call [Spirit Magic].
But it’s not obeying her call.
Yeah, I figured.
"I’m...I tried to finish it off as fast as I could. It was using your magic as you remained dormant. Not only that, but it places a...weird magic spell on you the moment you’re free from it." I explain, no way I could tell her the logic behind terms like debuff and penalties and magical values.
She wouldn’t understand, anyways.
Vaniti nods, and then turns towards me. "I see...thank you, Ryuuzen."
I don’t smile, or more so, try to hold the smile that’s about to be plastered on my face. But even I could see it, maybe Vaniti too, was going to smile as well?
Just in the next second, my eyes started getting blurry out of nowhere. Oh, [Dragon’s Authority: Data Reversal] penalty. It must be the cooldown before I could use it again. My eyes became blurry for just a moment, and gradually so.
So much, Vaniti no longer looked like a stable figure anymore.
My vision came back in the next few seconds, and whatever smile Vaniti had was gone, it was more neutral now...or no, maybe she never had a smile. Maybe I was the one imagining it. With that, my smile that I held back was shoved in a can.
I turned behind, and eyed both Sultan and Koga.
Now’s the time.
I’m going to finish this once and for all.
