Ruling the Historical Romance Novel as the Female Supporting Character-Chapter 270: A Good Man Who Takes Care of Everything for His Wife
"Did they just bully you?" Qin Kaize set out all the things Su Yijia needed beside her, his voice filled with concern.
If he hadn’t gone out to deliver the fruit, those people might have continued to bully his little wife.
Su Yijia opened her mouth as if to say something but, thinking that they were just a wall away and might have good hearing, she gestured silently, "Talk later."
Qin Kaize nodded in understanding.
After arranging everything, he leaned in to remind her softly, "Don’t worry. Uncle Xia is at this level now. As long as it’s not illegal, it won’t cause him any trouble."
"Don’t worry, I’m aware," Su Yijia said with a helpless smile.
Did she really look that easily bullied?
She washed her hands, then mixed the already pulverized glutinous rice flour with sugar and soaked milk, stirring it into a slightly thick batter. She steamed it over medium heat.
Next, she mashed fresh bananas and also made a bean paste from cooked red beans. Once the glutinous rice flour was steamed, she took it out, let it cool, and dampened her hands with plain water to prevent it from sticking.
She then took small portions of the mixture, flattened them, and wrapped them with banana and red bean paste separately before rolling them into balls and coating them in cooked glutinous rice flour. Simple snow mochi was done.
For the pumpkin cakes, she strained the steamed pumpkin to remove excess water, then mashed it and mixed it with sugar and glutinous rice flour to form a dough. She shaped small portions with red bean paste inside, flattened them, and set them aside to be fried later.
Despite the large amount of preparation, once Qin Kaize and the others watched her a couple of times, they immediately got to work helping out. Each little cake was prepared in pairs, adding up to one hundred and fifty in total. Even though it was simple, it took all five of them an hour.
Su Yijia avoided going out to listen to their chatter and only emerged when she heard Xia Weiguo and other guests arriving.
The aunties, usually not having close contact with him, were nervous. Xia Weiguo nodded to them, then his gaze softened with a loving smile when he saw Qin Kaize and Su Yijia.
"Ze, Jiajia, I’ve brought the bathtub and other things you ordered. You should sort them out," he said, waving them over.
Su Yijia was puzzled about what other items they might need, but followed Qin Kaize to the bathroom.
It was just a larger toilet, but it accommodated a big bathtub without interfering with others. They also needed to connect a water pipe for it, as the water in the bathtub wouldn’t drain easily otherwise.
Inside the bathtub were various goodies: fruit preserves, milk powder, malt extract, White Rabbit milk candies, oranges, apples, and even two large boxes of chocolates and cookies. The chocolates and cookies were obviously imported from an international store in Jingdu City, a special treat for her since she loved them.
Su Yijia was touched by how she was being cared for so well in this world.
Qin Kaize also found a whole leg of lamb.
Lamb leg in the summer? It might be a bit heavy, but it’s not unmanageable.
"We can slice the lamb leg, chill it in the tub, and have it for hotpot tomorrow afternoon," Su Yijia suggested. There wasn’t enough time to prepare it for today.
"I’ll send the items that need chilling to the cafeteria and ask the chef to prepare some large ice buckets," Qin Kaize said, worried that the meat might spoil after so long.
And even though a fan might help, it’s better to have ice to keep things cooler.
"We can also chill the drinks in ice water so they taste better," Su Yijia added with a smile, her eyes turning into crescent moons with happiness.
While searching through the items, she was delighted to find a complete set of textbooks from middle to high school, including mathematics, physics, and chemistry, all seventeen books, with a pair of pens and a large bottle of ink.
"How come you even got these books?" Su Yijia asked in surprise, her eyes sparkling.
"You wanted to take the college entrance exam, right? These books are good, and I happened to have a friend who could get the whole set," Qin Kaize said, bending down to kiss her cheek.
Since his little wife wanted to study, he had to prepare the best for her.
"You’re amazing, husband." Su Yijia hugged his neck happily and kissed him.
Although she had planned to check out the recycling station after arriving on the island, getting a complete set of these textbooks there would have been nearly impossible. With these books, she could now leisurely browse through the recycling station.
"Are you so happy?" Qin Kaize wrapped his arms around her waist and leaned lazily against the wall, his deep and warm eyes exuding a gentle warmth.
"So tonight..."
"No! Go to bed early tonight!" Su Yijia immediately tensed up at his insinuating tone. The lingering sensations from before made her feel both anticipation and fear. Her side still ached, and she wasn’t up for any more mischief.
She pushed Qin Kaize away, but his large hand followed persistently.
Su Yijia gave a firm slap to his hand.
"Behave. There are still guests outside."
"So tonight..."
"No tonight!" Su Yijia turned back and glared at him fiercely.
But Qin Kaize’s eyes still held a smile, sticking to her like a loyal dog with a bone, following her closely.
As they walked through the living room, although they didn’t cling to each other tightly, the sweet atmosphere of their closeness was apparent to everyone, showing how well they got along.
Since Qin Kaize had just dealt with Zuo Huilan, no one dared to make fun of them.
After putting everything away in their room, the other guests arrived. Despite planning for three tables of food, the number of guests led to six tables being set up.
Fortunately, the variety and quantity of food prepared by Qin Kaize and his team were ample. They even had to call in two extra chefs to avoid any shortcomings at the banquet.
