Ruling the Historical Romance Novel as the Female Supporting Character-Chapter 280: A Man Who Always Remembers to Buy Gifts for His Wife
"Boss!" The man, upon seeing them enter, greeted them joyfully, scrutinizing Qin Kaize carefully to ensure he was indeed fine before apologizing to Su Yijia. "Sorry, sister-in-law! I got too excited seeing the boss in good health."
"It’s okay," Su Yijia replied, not one to be petty about such things.
"This is Fu Yushan. He works for the transportation team here. If you need to transport goods to Hu City for sale, he can help," Qin Kaize introduced.
Su Yijia looked at Qin Kaize with joy, almost wanting to jump into his arms and kiss him. She knew that truck drivers often carried extra items on their trips as a side income. However, she hadn’t expected Qin Kaize to find someone for her so quickly. Anyone he brought to meet her must be trustworthy.
Qin Kaize’s blood boiled under her adoring gaze. If they weren’t in the presence of others, he would have embraced her tightly right then and there.
Seeing the warmth in Qin Kaize’s eyes turn to a smoldering intensity, Su Yijia quickly collected herself, turning to Fu Yushan with a gentle smile. "Comrade Fu, I’ll be relying on you in the future."
"This is no trouble at all. If not for the boss, I would have returned to farming long ago," Fu Yushan said gratefully.
Farming wasn’t necessarily a bad thing, but back then, he had to switch careers because he had gotten into a fight. His wife had done something shameful in their hometown, but since the man involved was his cousin, his family pressured him not to make a big deal out of it. In the end, he couldn’t take it anymore and beat the man up, only to be reported by his cousin in return.
Although he had to change careers, those two still ended up serving time in prison. However, the fallout from the whole situation left him unable to return to his hometown. Not only did his relatives give him the cold shoulder every day, but he also couldn’t hold his head high in the village.
And because of the fight, his severance pay after the career switch was pitiful. If it hadn’t been for Qin Kaize pulling strings, spending money, and making all the necessary arrangements, he wouldn’t have been able to join the transport team. So, he owed Qin Kaize a lifetime of gratitude.
"When will you go to Hu City? I’ll prepare the goods according to your schedule," Su Yijia offered, knowing her flexible schedule couldn’t dictate Fu Yushan’s.
"We have a trip to Hu City in three days, another in ten days, and the last one at the end of the month. Tell me which day works for you, and I’ll arrange it," Fu Yushan responded.
Su Yijia initially thought of the last day of the month for more time, but considering the document due in a few days and possible matters with Qin Kaize’s grandparents, she moved the date up.
"Ten days later, then."
"Okay!" Fu Yushan agreed immediately and pointed to the pile of items on the stone table. "Some of these are my wedding gifts for you and boss, and some are from the boss for you."
Su Yijia looked at Qin Kaize in surprise. "Why did you think to buy me gifts?"
"Isn’t it natural for me to buy things for my wife?" Qin Kaize replied, amused.
If it weren’t for his poor health earlier, he would have wanted to buy all those things himself. However, there were indeed some items that required Fu Yushan’s assistance.
"Come back in ten days to pick up the items, and once you’re in Hu City, just hand them over to Huabin," Qin Kaize instructed Fu Yushan.
The two loaded the items into the car and shared a dinner together before returning to the island around 8 p.m.
After handing the yarn to Grandma Lin, Qin Kaize and Su Yijia took a bath together, then finally retreated to their bedroom. Sitting cross-legged on the bed, Su Yijia excitedly unwrapped a pile of gifts: cookies, liquor-filled chocolates, beautiful bags, and hair accessories for girls.
Qin Kaize sifted through the gifts and pushed seven or eight towards her. "These are the gifts I got for you. See if you like them." 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
Su Yijia opened the largest box to find layers upon layers of clothes, all with styles far more fashionable than what was sold at the supply stores in Hu City. She picked up a dress and held it against herself, smiling.
"This dress is really pretty! Did you get it from Harbour City?"
She was sure of the origin, but found it hard to believe that Qin Kaize would go out of his way to buy her gifts from there.
"It’s Harbour City goods, but they were circulating in the black market in Yang City. There’s no issue with them," Qin Kaize reassured, pulling her back gently as he placed a dry towel over her head, wiping the water droplets from her hair.
"Your hair needs to be dried properly; otherwise, you’ll get headaches later on." He sighed, knowing his little wife was always so careless when it came to taking care of herself.
"I got you ten dresses, two sets of shirts and pants. The rest of the big boxes are full of shoes--both leather and sandals. You can try them on tomorrow," Qin Kaize said as he pulled out a small, palm-sized box.
"See if you like this one first," he added.
The box clearly contained jewelry, which puzzled Su Yijia. It wasn’t common for people to wear jewelry these days; anyone caught wearing it would likely get a lecture. But when she opened the box, she found an Omega watch inside. Unlike the diamond-encrusted Patek Philippe she received before, this one was more understated--but not by much.
"I noticed you didn’t wear the last watch very often, so I got you a new one. It’s not as flashy, but the price is about the same. It’s also a rarer model, and it pairs well with your outfits," Qin Kaize said as he gently took her hand and placed the watch on her wrist.
The strap was made of yellow calfskin, and the watch face was a slender rectangle. The hands and numbers were bold and black, while the face itself was a pearly white. In the light, the watch reflected a delicate iridescence--elegant but far less ostentatious than her previous one. Su Yijia felt a wave of relief at the thought of wearing something a bit more modest.
"Honey, you’re too good to me," Su Yijia exclaimed as she threw herself into Qin Kaize’s arms and planted a kiss on his stubbled chin.
The man, who had kept his cool all day, felt his control slip. The atmosphere in the bedroom grew heated, like a volcano ready to erupt. At first, Su Yijia tried to match his pace, but it wasn’t long before she surrendered. Just as she stretched her hand out to escape, Qin Kaize pulled her right back.
The next morning, Su Yijia didn’t wake up until nearly nine. Qin Kaize had already left, and thinking about their antics from the night before, she buried her face into the pillow, rolling around in embarrassment.
How could he be so good at this?!
Even though she couldn’t keep up, she couldn’t help but love it. Her silent screams of frustration were interrupted when she was suddenly scooped up, blankets and all.
"Careful, don’t smother yourself," came Qin Kaize’s deep, honey-smooth voice, whispering seductively in her ear.
