Ruling the Historical Romance Novel as the Female Supporting Character-Chapter 333: The Persistent Xue Qianhao
"Uncle Xia, are you saying that the tasks Qin Kaize will take on in the future will be more difficult and dangerous than before?" Su Yijia completed Xia Weiguo’s unfinished thought.
Xia Weiguo hesitated, glanced at the worried Grandpa Lin and Grandma Lin, and eventually nodded.
Seeing her grandparents tense up, Su Yijia smiled reassuringly. "There’s no helping it. They are much stronger than others in the team, so it’s only natural that the most dangerous tasks would fall to them. They’re more likely to succeed and get through unharmed than anyone else. But what I’m concerned about is whether they will get the rewards they deserve for these tasks or if their rewards will be reduced because they’ve taken the Great Strength Pills and their bodies have been enhanced."
Su Yijia was worried, but unless Qin Kaize chose not to return to the team, there was no way to refuse the assigned tasks.
"Of course, they will receive their due rewards," Xia Weiguo quickly assured. "I even had to bang the table twice in Jingdu City to make sure this was upheld. The danger of the tasks is unavoidable, but their contributions should not be overlooked."
"Uncle Xia, last time when we were on the train, we heard that the college entrance exams might be reinstated. Kaize and I discussed it, and he plans to take the exams with me if they’re reinstated this year. Now that he can remember things at a glance, what if he really gets into university?" Su Yijia mentioned, though she believed that the team wouldn’t be so rigid and inflexible.
Xia Weiguo hadn’t considered this possibility at all and was momentarily stunned. Then he smiled. "If the college entrance exams are reinstated and Ze gets into university, he would certainly go. The country needs skilled professionals, and so does our team. Rest assured, whatever is meant for Ze will not be taken away by anyone."
Getting into university would mean increased attention for him, and Xia Weiguo would strive to advance him further. Even if not, moving to a better place was acceptable. However, Xia Weiguo didn’t share his plans with Su Yijia just yet. He was not accustomed to discussing things that had not yet been accomplished.
"That’s great! If the two of you can study together, you won’t have to be separated. And when you have children, we old folks can help take care of them," Grandma Lin said with a smile, pleased that the newlyweds wouldn’t be separated right away and thinking that if Qin Kaize went to university, he’d be seen as a skilled professional.
As they were discussing, there was a knock on the door. Su Yijia got up to answer it, while Grandpa Lin and Grandma Lin went back to their room.
Since no one on the island knew them, the visitor was likely looking for Comrade Xia.
"What brings you here?" Su Yijia asked, frowning as she looked at the person at the door.
Xue Qianhao, forcing a smile, explained, "I came to see General Xia about something. I saw the fence wasn’t closed and came in."
"Oh," Su Yijia responded indifferently and turned to walk away.
As soon as Su Yijia turned, Xue Qianhao’s previously obsequious expression turned to one of sinister malice, like a beast ready to pounce. If it weren’t for this person causing trouble on the island, he wouldn’t have been in such a predicament. Qin Kaize, a big man, hadn’t previously taken issue with him. Now, he was using such drastic measures to prove his loyalty.
When Xue Qianhao entered the living room, his menacing look was replaced by a pained, obsequious, and humble demeanor.
"General Xia, I have some family issues and need your help," he said with a pleading tone.
"Shouldn’t you be dealing with the life committee for personal issues?" Xia Weiguo asked with a frown, puzzled but more inclined to distance himself from the matter.
He had just returned and was unaware of what had happened on the island. But he knew well what kind of person Xue Qianhao was and who else besides Ze and Jiajia could have caused trouble.
Not stepping in for Ze and Jiajia was already a lapse on his part. To give Xue Qianhao and his wife leniency was out of the question.
"Not a personal issue..." Xue Qianhao was beginning to doubt if Xia Weiguo was pretending to be ignorant to humiliate him. But he needed to seek help from Xia Weiguo first.
Xue Qianhao lowered his head in embarrassment and recounted the events that had transpired. The more Xia Weiguo listened, the darker his expression became, almost reaching the point of slamming the table.
Even though he was clearly angry, Xue Qianhao continued stubbornly. "I’ve looked for some people and asked around. The only chance is if Comrade Su is willing to give my wife a chance. If she isn’t detained, she can be sent to the farm or return to the countryside."
"Not interested!" Su Yijia responded coldly from the side.
Xue Qianhao frowned and looked at her with even more pleading eyes. "Comrade Su, if you pursue this, Wang Futong’s life will be ruined. She’s only twenty-two, and her future is long."
"What does that have to do with me?" Su Yijia raised an eyebrow in confusion.
"You’re both women, so you should understand that such an incident will make life harder for a woman. Besides, I’ve visited her at the detention center, and she knows her mistake and won’t repeat it," Xue Qianhao said with particular sincerity.
Su Yijia found his display laughable. Had Wang Futong ever admitted her mistakes before? Hadn’t she been given enough chances? And now Xue Qianhao was using gender-based emotional blackmail?
"I’ve given her many chances. She repeatedly harassed my husband, and I’m not a fool. Spare me the excuses. Did she think that by targeting my husband, she wouldn’t damage his reputation and affect his future? If she had succeeded in taking my husband, how would my life as a fellow woman have been? How would my future be? So don’t try to convince me. I’ve shown enough tolerance by not exposing what you’ve done to Wang Futong."
Su Yijia’s soft voice turned stern due to her agitation. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Xue Qianhao recognized the threat in her words and was at a loss for what to say. However, he still seemed unwilling to give up, trying to continue his pleas.
