Ruling the Historical Romance Novel as the Female Supporting Character-Chapter 385: When Sleepiness Comes, a Pillow is Ready
The elderly had endured hardships over the years, and with the current emphasis on frugality, they were naturally reluctant to waste anything. Su Yijia and Qin Kaize, strong as oxen, weren’t particularly delicate, so they followed the elders’ wishes without complaint. However, that didn’t stop Qin Kaize from preparing everything meticulously.
He woke up before six to prepare meals for both breakfast and lunch.
"Thank you, hubby." Su Yijia rested her chin on her hand, her eyes sparkling with sweetness.
Qin Kaize’s breath hitched for a moment, suppressing the urge to kiss her. He simply tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, his eyes filled with warmth.
Nearby, several young people giggled and teased, "You two must have just gotten married! Look at the way he looks at you—it’s like he wants to pamper you like a child!"
Feeling a bit shy, Su Yijia nodded and replied, "Yes, we just got married." 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
They’d been married for three and a half months—still a newlywed phase.
"Are you heading back home or going out to work?" a girl asked, leaning on her chin with curiosity.
Noticing how well-dressed Su Yijia’s family was, she figured they must have good jobs. She couldn’t help but feel envious of such a beautiful girl who married a great man, freeing her from worries about daily necessities.
"We’re heading home. How about you? I see you have quite a bit of luggage. Where are you off to?" Su Yijia decided to take the initiative in the conversation.
Their responses flowed freely, "We’re coming back from the Northeast commune. We volunteered to support rural areas a few years back, but we had to take a leave to handle some family matters."
Su Yijia noted the group’s varied appearances; they didn’t seem related, and they looked well-groomed. It seemed they were likely returning home to prepare for the upcoming National College Entrance Examination, having found an excuse to focus on their studies.
"What are you chatting about so happily? Here, have some hot water first," Qin Kaize interrupted, bringing over cups for Su Yijia and the grandparents.
They rubbed their hands around the cups, hesitating to open them, fearing that the delicious malted milk would attract attention in the crowded train.
Qin Kaize, however, wasn’t as concerned. He sat beside Su Yijia and started peeling peanuts, cleaning off the skins before handing them to her.
The young people felt a subtle pressure from Qin Kaize’s presence; despite his silence, he exuded a sense of authority that deterred them from speaking up.
As the train rocked along for the entire day, Su Yijia hardly paused to eat. Qin Kaize consistently offered her snacks, from peanuts and seeds to various fruits, feeding her bites whenever he could.
Eventually, realizing his efforts might annoy her, he quieted down as she focused her attention on him. Fortunately, those educated youths didn’t know them well enough to engage deeply.
When the train finally arrived, Qin Kaize handled all the luggage, guiding Su Yijia and the grandparents off the train without needing her help.
Gao Huabin was waiting on the platform, spotting them and quickly approaching. He seemed to be holding something, but when he noticed the elders looking over, he subtly concealed it behind him.
Qin Kaize gave him a quick glance but didn’t inquire further as they piled into the car and drove away. It wasn’t until Grandpa Lin and Grandma Lin had dozed off that he took Su Yijia’s hand and led her downstairs.
Gao Huabin had been waiting anxiously, and as soon as they appeared, he stood up and rushed over. "Boss, you’re finally back. Yin Zhenglin is in big trouble!"
Qin Kaize frowned, "Haven’t we been keeping an eye on him? How could he land himself in trouble?"
Gao Huabin sighed. "We’ve been watching him to prevent any disruptions, but someone else has come looking for him. Others have discovered the dirt on him. He’s hurt quite a few people over the years, and while we’ve held back, that doesn’t mean others will."
"Is it purely personal grievances? No one instigating it?" Su Yijia interjected, looking at Qin Kaize and Gao Huabin with curiosity.
Qin Kaize’s expression shifted as he took the documents from Gao Huabin’s hands and began flipping through them. Su Yijia leaned in to see too.
The reports detailed accusations of money and defamation, clearly indicating a concerted effort to bring Yin Zhenglin down.
"It looks like the people from Jingdu City are involved," Qin Kaize said, his tone darkening. They had managed to keep him in check, but it was clear someone had given him a significant push.
"No worries. Even if he’s found guilty, the process will take time. At this point, he won’t be dealt with until after the Lantern Festival," Qin Kaize said with a wry smile, handing the papers back to Gao Huabin.
Gao Huabin looked perplexed. "Boss, what do you mean? He’s going to be arrested tomorrow!"
Earlier, Qin Kaize had emphasized that they couldn’t let Yin Zhenglin stir up trouble, but now it seemed he didn’t mind if things escalated.
"Let him be arrested. He really is guilty," Su Yijia added nonchalantly.
Qin Kaize looked down at her, a grin breaking out on his face.
Gao Huabin suddenly understood their intention. "Then I’ll get people to investigate and see how these three are connected to Jingdu City."
"Right, gather evidence without alarming anyone," Qin Kaize cautioned.
As long as the Jingdu City individuals didn’t step in to rescue Yin Zhenglin, they would likely use the evidence against him.
They had spent so long tracking Yin Zhenglin, but with his cunning nature and the time that had passed, it seemed he was not about to make things easy.
Unexpectedly, the people from Jingdu City were losing their patience.
"Tomorrow morning, they’ll be going after Yin Zhenglin. Boss, Sister, will you be going to watch? When such people are captured, it often gets chaotic—people throwing stones and rotten vegetables," Gao Huabin warned.
