"Su Yijia, I’m talking to you, can’t you understand?" Qin’s mother shouted in frustration. After yelling, she immediately lowered her voice as if she was afraid someone outside would hear.

"Here, the green beans you wanted," she said, unwillingly handing them over.

A hint of guilt welled up in Qin’s mother’s eyes, but she kept her back straight.
"Stepparents are parents too! Kaize lost his mother at the age of three, and I took care of him until he was eighteen, right up until he enlisted. They say that gratitude for raising a child is greater than that of giving birth. You, a newly-wedded daughter-in-law, don’t want to acknowledge me. You’re nothing." She declared righteously, then hastily ran away without looking back.

Su Yijia lowered her eyes and shook her head with a cold snort.
