Ruling the Historical Romance Novel as the Female Supporting Character-Chapter 41: Gratitude for being Born was Less than for being Raised up?!
"Su Yijia, I’m talking to you, can’t you understand?" Qin’s mother shouted in frustration. After yelling, she immediately lowered her voice as if she was afraid someone outside would hear.
Su Yijia chuckled sarcastically, each word she said seemed to peel off her own skin, thrown to the ground, and trampled upon.
"Green beans!" She repeated herself.
Qin’s mother moved her lips silently, obviously cursing under her breath. But she didn’t dare to meet Su Yijia’s gaze and left quickly. Su Yijia leaned lazily against the stove and waited for a few minutes. Then Qin’s mother returned with a small bag.
"Here, the green beans you wanted," she said, unwillingly handing them over.
She continued, "No matter what, we’re a family now. If there’s real danger, you can’t keep everything from us."
"Have you ever heard the saying, ’Curiosity killed the cat’?" Su Yijia laughed crisply.
There was an unmistakable threat in her tone, along with a sense of malice that couldn’t be concealed.
Qin’s mother felt utterly foolish. She knew that the woman in front of her was not easy to deal with, yet she always sought trouble. Biting her back molars, she glared at Su Yijia and tried to leave.
But the girl behind her spoke again, "I advise you to accept your fate. Ever since the day you decided to scheme against me, your future has been doomed. If you keep getting angry over every little thing, I’m afraid you won’t last long before you’re driven to death."
"You dare to talk like that to your mother-in-law!" Qin’s mother turned abruptly, her trembling finger pointed at Su Yijia as if she had a nervous disorder.
"Do you think you’re worthy of being my mother-in-law?" Su Yijia replied with a meaningful tone.
A hint of guilt welled up in Qin’s mother’s eyes, but she kept her back straight.
"Stepparents are parents too! Kaize lost his mother at the age of three, and I took care of him until he was eighteen, right up until he enlisted. They say that gratitude for raising a child is greater than that of giving birth. You, a newly-wedded daughter-in-law, don’t want to acknowledge me. You’re nothing." She declared righteously, then hastily ran away without looking back.
For someone who didn’t know any better, they might have thought that there was a ghost chasing her from behind.
Su Yijia lowered her eyes and shook her head with a cold snort.
Even though she had just shown a moment of guilt in her eyes, who could she possibly fool with the claim of "still living off her favor"? It was either a typical stepmother’s tactic or the result of these rotten parents conspiring together. This story wasn’t lacking in drama, especially considering the original source of this text was from a certain place.
She didn’t mind using her darkest suspicions to analyze every person in this world. Being a heartless villain with money was always better than being a naive fool who was duped until there was nothing left. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
After washing and selecting the green beans, she soaked them in cold water for half an hour before boiling them for fifteen minutes. Once they were fully cooked, she added a few sugar cubes and boiled them for another two minutes. After tasting to ensure the right sweetness, she poured most of it into a large bowl.
She scooped two ladles of cooked beans back into the pot, mashed and stirred them with a spoon, covered the pot, and continued cooking. The previous bowl was soaked in a large basin of cold water to cool it down after the rest of the green bean soup turned into green bean paste.
"You can have some green bean soup." Su Yijia carried the bowl into the room and waved at Gao Huabin and the two stern-looking squad leaders.
"Thank you, Sister-in-law!" They hurriedly accepted the bowl of green bean soup.
Seeing Su Yijia was about to leave again, one of the squad leaders asked urgently, "Aren’t Director Qin going to have some?"
