Chapter 432: Do You Two Know Each Other?

Wang Fengsong looked at her son’s exam paper, unable to comprehend how he could score so poorly. Moreover, the way the exam was structured left no room for anyone who might have tried to manipulate the outcome to defend themselves. She became anxious and reached out to grab Mu Xiaowei, who had been staring blankly at Su Yijia.

As he felt Wang Fengsong’s touch, an inexplicable guilt surged within him. He instinctively stepped aside, creating distance between them. "So now it turns out that even dropping out won’t help?" he said.

"From the moment the school announced the re-examination, there’s no way to erase the mistakes made earlier. You should just go home and wait to see how the higher-ups decide," Su Yijia said with a resigned shrug, placing the exam paper back on the table.

Wang Fengsong glared at Su Yijia, wishing she could snatch the paper away from her. However, it was clear that was impossible. In the end, she could only pin her hopes on Mu Xiaowei. Yet when she looked up, she found that Mu Xiaowei wasn’t focused on helping their son; his gaze was locked onto the smug Su Yijia.

Wang Fengsong was furious and anxious, yet she didn’t dare to lose her temper there, fearing it would escalate the situation and provide amusement for that insufferable girl. "Let’s go," Mu Xiaowei suddenly said.

Wang Fengsong was taken aback, as if struck by lightning. "Go? You plan to just walk away like this?" she raised her voice in disbelief.

Mu Xiaowei ignored her and turned to leave the office. Wang Fengsong’s eyes burned with resentment as she glared at Su Yijia, her expression vicious, as if she wanted to swallow her whole. Yet, she felt powerless to act and could only reluctantly chase after Mu Xiaowei.

Mu Xiaowei walked quickly, and Wang Fengsong had to jog to catch up with him on the first floor. "You can’t leave! Explain yourself; how can you just walk away like this?" she grasped his arm and demanded.

Mu Xiaowei stared coldly at her. "What else can I do if I don’t walk away?"

"I called you back to help us resolve this issue with our son! Look at what you’ve done! You hit him, and now you say you’ll divorce me after he gets married. But now you’ve done nothing, and Yanming is still facing punishment. What was the point of calling you back?"

Wang Fengsong was frustrated that he seemed utterly useless at this critical moment. "I see where Yanming gets his lack of common sense," Mu Xiaowei scoffed. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

"What do you mean? Stop beating around the bush. Are you going to help our son or not?" Wang Fengsong pressed.

Mu Xiaowei looked at her for several seconds before shaking his head. "It’s not that I don’t want to help, but I can’t. The professors sitting there earlier—those I recognized—are giants in the field of physics. What do you think they usually work on? They study things that can go to space or take lives. Yet, now they’re here grading exams for thousands of students? This is clearly under the direct scrutiny of some high-ranking official."

Wang Fengsong was truly scared now, stunned into silence.

After a moment, Mu Xiaowei opened the car door. She hurriedly followed him. "What do you mean? It’s just a re-examination; how could it involve high-ranking officials?" Her face turned pale.

Mu Xiaowei found her sudden naïveté somewhat amusing. "The restoration of the National College Entrance Examination is a significant matter for the country. It’s no surprise that a high-ranking official would keep an eye on it."

Wang Fengsong’s face turned ashen. She was internally panicking about what to do. If it were just the examination incident or merely that girl seeking revenge, it would be manageable. But now, with both issues intertwined, it was a recipe for disaster.

Seeing her pale face, Mu Xiaowei suddenly had an epiphany. "Do you know that girl from just now?"

"I don’t know her at all!" Wang Fengsong shot back without a second thought. However, her overly excited reaction gave away her guilt.

"Ha! Wang Fengsong, you really think I’m an idiot!" Mu Xiaowei sneered.

Wang Fengsong was flustered, unsure of how to defend herself. But he was already urging her to hurry. "What are you waiting for? Get in; I’ll take you home. I still need to go to work."

"It’s so late; you still want to go to work?" Wang Fengsong thought Mu Xiaowei was a bit deranged. Their entire family might be in trouble, yet he appeared indifferent, seemingly enjoying watching the Mu family unravel.

"You brought this trouble upon yourself, and now it’s dragged Yanming down too. If you don’t resolve this, don’t expect me to help," Mu Xiaowei said bluntly.

Wang Fengsong was furious, but she didn’t dare argue back. She could only get into the car obediently.

She didn’t want to leave. Since there was a storm brewing, avoidance wouldn’t solve anything. She needed to confront that girl directly to figure out what to do next. But Mu Xiaowei already had his suspicions. If she didn’t leave now, he might drag her to confront that girl and uncover everything, which would be disastrous for her.

Wang Fengsong gritted her teeth and got into the car. She didn’t speak during the ride. When they arrived, she looked at Mu Xiaowei with pleading eyes. "Why don’t you check with your workplace if there’s anything they can do to help? After all, Yanming is our son. We can’t just sit back and watch him get into trouble. I promised your mother I’d do my part, and you promised too."

Mu Xiaowei frowned, his expression serious. After a moment, he nodded. "I understand."

As Wang Fengsong had said, Yanming’s straying onto this wrong path was a result of his failure as a father. He would take responsibility as a father, and if it came to a crisis, the Mu family would face it together. If they had been wrong for twenty years, this outcome was indeed self-inflicted.
