Sacred Flame: His Enemy, His Mate (BL)-Chapter 18: Pheromones
Chapter 18: Pheromones
Kain locke
I rummage through my bag, searching for something edible to wear,
My face was covered with a deep scowl, as brought out a white shirt, surveying the peeling design.
Huffing out a tired breath, I dropped it on the bed, right beside the ones Bella had personally chosen for me to wear to the party.
Yeah, the party, going there wasn't exactly in my plans, if anything, I'd rather sleep everything off in here than going to a party where not only am I the only 'new' member, but they aren't also very accommodating...
"Can I just stay in here and not go?" I groaned out, repeating the same thing I said to Bella while she was here a few minutes ago, going through my things and to help choose what I'm going to wear.
If I remember correctly, she had replied, "You wouldn't want to miss it, it's some sort of a... lets say a tradition, because If you're not there, all attending members will swarm into your room, and if it's locked, they'll find every means to open it, mess up your things, throw water everywhere, and of course, no food till the holiday is over. And if you somehow get there late, you'll be requested to do something. Trust me, you wouldn't want to do any of it, because as far as I'm concerned, it's always a mad ass weird request."
This is just what I need!
Oh God, why is this getting harder every single time.
Having no choice left, I unfolded the white shirt with sky blue design patterns.
Putting it on, it feels comfortable on me because it's not exactly thick,
I pulled on the trousers, adjusting the waistband with a sigh. They fit well enough, though I would've preferred something looser. Bella had made sure everything I wore tonight looked "presentable," as she put it. I wasn't sure if that was a good thing or not.
Sitting on the edge of the bed, I ran a hand through my hair, debating whether I should make an effort or just show up as I was.
If I stayed too long in here, someone would eventually come knocking or worse, barge in, and the last thing I want is getting into a fight, plus, there's no way in hell I'll be sleeping on a soaked bed.
Therefore, I grabbed my shoes and slipped them on, taking my time as if that would somehow change the fact that I had to go. The room felt quieter than before now, like it was waiting for me to make up my mind.
With one last deep breath, I stood up and grabbed my keycard from the nightstand. But then my eyes landed on the small note beside it, the one that hadn't been there earlier. Or maybe it was there, but I didn't see it prior to how occupied I was.
I took a brief glance at the five words written on it,
[Let it be done tonight.]
My brows pulled together. Done? What was supposed to be done?
I picked up the note, turning it over, but there was nothing else written on it. No name. No sign of who left it.
For a moment, I just stared at it,
From what I could tell about this, I knew this letter wasn't meant for me, the room had been chosen randomly, so why worry about a piece of paper anyway? It might've been left here, or forgotten by the previous occupant of this hotel room.
Thus, with a sigh, I shoved the note into my pocket and headed for the door. Whatever it meant, I'd deal with it later. Right now, I had a party to survive.
According to Bella, the party was on the third floor.
Finding it was easy, the music was loud enough to shake the walls.
Is this a high school prom? I thought, smiling a little as I walked in.
Bright lights flashed in different colors, and the room was full of noise. People were laughing, dancing, and shouting over the music. Everyone seemed free, doing whatever they wanted. It was clear no one was holding back, a one time opportunity in a year to be themselves, what do you expect?
I looked around at the crowd. Some people wore full outfits, but most showed a lot of skin. You can even see Omega's in filmsy thin outfits. Some Beta's did same too.
Squeezing through the crowd, I tried to spot Bella, though I wasn't expecting to find her easily. Given that I've always has a hard time llocating what isn't kept by me. Maybe I was just bad at finding things. Or maybe, in a place like this, it was easy to get lost in the crowd.
Thinking about it, lately, she seems to be invincible whenever I'm looking for her. But it's funny how she always finds me whenever she wants.
"Why are you late, I've been waiting for you to walk in through that door, you know?" I turned my head to look at him, as though to confirm, if it's really him.
"I heard you were sick..." I trailed off examining him, he looked nothing like someone who got poisoned from a nightbeasts bite.
"You can always get better, even if you're sick right?" He answered with another bright smile, making his eyes forming a heartwarming crescent shape.
"Right..." I murmured, stepping backward before his approaching hand can wrapped around my shoulder.
He retracted his hand as quickly, took a brief glance at it before smiling and keeping it by his side again.
"It's a little louder in here right?" He asked me.
"Yeah," I nodded looking around, it is actually very loud, and up front were people swaying to the music.
"Last year own was more of a ball... slow sensual, I don't even know who brought up the idea of a loud party this year."
Didn't Bella say this guy is a cold and quiet beta, but so far I can't agree to the fact of him being quiet, "Yeah," i answered, scanning around again for Bella.
"Looking for someone?"
"Hmm... yeah, my friend, we are supposed to meet here."
Oh! He said, pulling out a cigarette from his pant, rolling it between his fingers before placing it between his lips. With a quick flick, his lighter sparked, and the tip of the cigarette glowed as he took a slow drag.
He blew out the smoke, watching it swirl into the air before turning to me. "Do you smoke?" he asked casually, bring out another one, offering it to me.
I glanced at the cigarette, then shook my head. "I used to," I said. "Not anymore."
Alec nodded and put it back into the box, tucking it in his back pocket,
"Why'd you stop?" he asked looking at me.
I thought about it for a few seconds. There wasn't one big reason, just a bunch of little ones. The taste. The smell. The way it reminded me of things I didn't want to remember, and Brian once caught the odour on me. I had to give it up then, and I did.
"I just lost interest," I said, shifting on my feet.
He didn't push for more. He just took another slow drag, then let out a breath. "Want to step outside for some air?"
I hesitated. The room was too loud, the lights too bright, and Bella was still nowhere in sight. Maybe getting some air wouldn't be so bad but then again...
"Isn't this party supposed to be a tradition? So how can we leave just like that?"
"This is different, the balcony is just right there."
I glanced around, "Alright." I give in finally seeing that it was close. He lead the way to the balcony door.
He pulled at the knob, but it unexpectedly refuses to open, so he tried it once more, but yet it has the same results.

I was also a little confused, "Did the party arrangement includes locking the door that leads to the balcony?"
"No... it's not supposed to be locked... it's...Shit!" his eyes suddenly snapped open as he tugged at my arm quickly, to make for the nearest door.
"What..." are you doing? I meant to ask, but the rest cut in my throat when I realized how unusual it is to have doors that could be exits in an event locked.
The next door was also locked, and this time, as we were turning back to go to another door,
When a figure in a biker suit jacket and helmet suddenly came in through the front door, and before anyone could tell what's going on, the figure brought out a glass filled with pink liquid and smash it on the ground and rushed out right after before I could give it a chase.
The whole dancing stopped at once as everyone now seems to be conscious of what's going on.
However, the next second a strong smell hits me, sweet, overpowering, so strong it feels like my body was set on fire as a sudden pulse of heat crashed through me, burning from the inside out. My knees nearly buckled as a sharp, unfamiliar ache spread through my limbs. My breath hitched.
Oh shit!
Pheromones!
The whole party erupted into frenzy immediately.
However as I turned to find anyway out of this place before I lose all control, I felt a grip hard enough to bruise on my arm.
And when I turned to look at his face, his usual purple eyes now glowed a dangerous violet like a molten magma.
