Chapter 20: Disoriented

Kain Locke

"Kain, are you even listening?"

The voice snapped through the fog in my head, sharp enough to jolt me back.

"W-what are you... can you repeat please?" I asked the pink haired Omega in front of me,

I was laying on the bed, and a few moments ago, I had woken up, or I was woken up by this same guy staring at me, crouching very close to the bed I laid.

"How do you feel?" He questioned exasperatedly as though he would be asking dozens of times.

"Light... weak, I don’t know... my head feels so fuzzy like it might float out of my body and.." my hand moved to cover my mouth as I yawned, "I want to sleep." I muttered, going to close my eyes again but his hand descended on my shoulder and he shook me with it, as if the action was capable of shaking the sleep out of me.

"You can’t sleep right now."

"Why?" I asked weakly, already sinking more into the bed, the only thing left is... "Can you help with the blanket?" I requested and he slapped his forehead with unhidden frustration.

"Come on, just stop this already, it’s been two days since you’ve been sleeping! And well...you better wake up now because they’re coming to get you!" He snapped at once and all traces of drowsiness left on my face was wiped off.

"What do you mean?"

He dragged his hand over his face for a brief moment, "It’s already generous of me to be here, if not for circumstances, I wouldn’t be here in the first place! So listen up, I don’t know what you’ve gotten yourself into but it’s some deep shit, and... they’re coming to get you any moment from now, that if they aren’t already here."

I was just about to ask what he was talking about because I couldn’t make any sense of it when the door to the room I was in was suddenly kicked open and several Beta’s swarmed in, holding their guns.

What were they really thinking? Holding such a dangerous weapon in a hotel?

However, shouldn’t I be more concerned about what they’re doing here at this instance, so having no other alternatives, "Why are they here?" I whispered to the pink haired Omega beside my bed, now getting cautious and uncomfortable by their presence.

"To take you away." He replied.

I barely had time to react before one of the Betas stepped closer,

"Get up. You’re coming with us." His voice was harsh,

Wait what? They just walked in here and declared to take me away without a proper explanation?

My stomach twisted.

"Why?" My voice came out rough, my throat dry like I hadn’t used it in days.

None of them answered. Instead another Beta pulled out a set of restraints, "Can you walk, or we’ll carry you. Your choice."

Apparently, my body still felt sluggish, and my head foggy, but I forced myself upright anyway. The last thing I wanted was to be dragged out of here like some criminal.

The pink-haired Omega beside me let out a long sigh, rubbing his temples as he synch his lips, "Whatever you were asked, just insist you have no idea."

My legs touched the ground and it felt heavy somehow, my hand had some kind of stripes on it, like I’d been clawed by someone.

Standing from the bed and entering into the slippers, a few led the way, I followed, then the rest of the Beta, keeping me in the middle.

By the time we got out, I realized this wasn’t the hotel by any means, it wasn’t even the base, so what’s this place?

The questions troubled my mind, and the bad premonition was creeping its way to my mind.

The last thing I remember was...

I was at the attack, got bitten by a nightbeast, got treated, and was taken to a new room, then on a holiday break. In a hotel where...

Why was it so hazy? Why do I feel so blank?

The walk felt like it would never end. My legs were weak, my body sluggish, but I had no choice except to move. The Betas surrounded me, treating me like some kind of criminal.

None of what’s happening since I woke up made sense, but I could only go along with this.

By the time we reached the room, I was now sure that this wasn’t a hotel. And it definitely wasn’t the base either.

The room was big, with a long table in the center. Several people were already inside, their gazes snapping toward me the very moment I stepped in.

"He’s here." One of them started and the rest sneered in a protest, making my curiosity high in a way I just want to know what’s going on.

"What was your role in the pheromone attack?"

His words didn’t make sense. So I stared at him.

"What?"

"You don’t play dumb here, because it’s definitely going to do more harm than good. So start spilling what you know!" He snapped and I flinched.

"What are you talking about?" I sputtered.

"There’s a total of nineteen Omega’s at the party the other day, you included, but tell me how eighteen Omega’s were affected by the pheromones and miraculously you, the only Omega who appears completely fine? With not even the slightest hickey on you!"

"What? I... I don’t..." My words stumbled out, my mind struggling to catch up. "Pheromone manipulation? What the..."

I was at the ..party... Alec came in... and then... then pheromones were everywhere... and.. "I didn’t do it. I didn’t..."

"Convenient, isn’t it?" Another voice cut in, this one sharper and more suspicious. "Out of all the Omegas, you’re the only one who managed to run."

"That doesn’t mean I was involved!" I argued, my voice rising in panic. "I was just trying to get out. Alec... he... he attacked me! If I hadn’t fought back, I would’ve been..." My voice trailed off, the memory of his hands on me, his eyes glowing with that unnatural desire, making my skin crawl.

"And yet you were coherent enough to fight back." The first man’s eyes narrowed, his fingers tapping rhythmically against the table. "Funny, considering every other Omega was too lost in heat to even move."

"That’s... that’s because..." I stopped, realizing I didn’t have an answer. I was affected by the pheromones as far as I could remember.

"I swear, I don’t know anything about this. I just... I just wanted to get out of there!" I pleaded, my hands curling into fists to stop them from trembling. "I would never... I couldn’t..."

"Then explain the claw marks on your wrist." One of them pointed, his eyes narrowing. "Those weren’t from Alec, from the footage, he didn’t put any on you!"

That brought some flashes, and I could see the Alpha clawing my hand! Did they truly see the footage?

And funny enough, when the holographic projection was turned on and it started playing, with my two eyes, there wasn’t an Alpha who grabbed me! I just ran out the door and out of the hallway.

This doesn’t make any sense, it just doesn’t.

"You’re being detained until we figure out what happened," the first man declared, his voice leaving no room for argument. "Until then, you’re the prime suspect."

Panic shot through me.

"Wait—" I wanted to talk but Strong hands grabbed me.

I struggled against it, but it was useless. They were already dragging me toward the door when it gently opened, Kael entered and our eyes met.

And just like that, everything that occurred came rushing back.
