Sage of Humanity-Chapter 1560 - 1558: Inside the Burial Mound
Lu Ye stared in astonishment; only now did he understand the danger hidden within the pink nebula. Such an attack wasn't something he could withstand, nor could Yaya likely resist it.
Yet the azure bird seemed oblivious, completely ignoring the fierce assault of numerous pink tendrils, allowing them to lash at its body. Blue halos flashed across its body, blocking the fierce assault, while its sharp claws kept slicing through the air.
It was unclear how long it was busy, but the pink nebula suddenly split open, and the azure bird pecked downward. Lu Ye couldn't see what it had pecked, only vaguely saw what looked like a huge pink worm being pecked into its mouth, swallowed with its head tilted upwards.
After the azure bird swallowed that pink worm-like thing, the once relentlessly attacking pink tendrils seemed to lose their energy, drooping sluggishly and merging back into the nebula.
The azure bird, however, appeared as if intoxicated, its form became unsteady, wings flapping clumsily for a bit, and finally, it lay sprawled on the nebula, not moving at all.
"Quickly, let's get out of here!" Lu Ye hurriedly called to Lih Shang, knowing this place was not safe. Though the azure bird hadn't noticed them, such a fierce bird wasn't something they could provoke. What's more chilling was that the mound nebula inside the Thousand Mounds Cemetery seemed to be alive...
Lih Shang also knew it was not wise to linger, rapidly steering the starboat to the side.
But what one fears often happens; as the starboat moved around, Lu Ye suddenly noticed the azure bird glance in their direction. Despite being separated by an untold number of miles, under that glance, Lu Ye felt a chill running from his head to his toes.
Then he saw the azure bird open its beak, and Lih Shang cried out in surprise because a mysterious suction force suddenly appeared around them. Under its pull, she could no longer control the starboat.
In the next moment, the starboat shot towards the azure bird like an arrow released from a bow.
We're done for! Lu Ye's face turned bitter; he knew they were truly doomed. He had seen the azure bird's might from a distance, knowing it was something he could never resist, and even if Yaya were to take action, their chances were slim.
This imminent swallow would surely consume both the starboat and them completely.
How did they end up in such bad luck? Lu Ye was filled with confusion; they had been doing well on the journey, yet here they suffered misfortune.
Both Lu Ye and Lih Shang were anxious and uneasy, yet Yaya clapped with cheers, her face full of joy, seemingly unaware of the impending doom.
Within just a few breaths, the starboat traversed tens of thousands of miles, directly drawn in front of the azure bird. But to Lu Ye's surprise, just as the starboat was about to fall into the azure bird's mouth, the force that was about to consume it abruptly vanished.
The starboat simply floated in front of the azure bird.
Observing closely, Lu Ye could increasingly feel the grandeur of the azure bird's size. He could not see its entire form, only the enormous eyes, as large as two big suns, obscured his view.
The azure bird truly seemed drunk, both eyes carrying a dazed look. It tilted its head, examined the starboat, and looked at the three little figures inside. Then it blinked its eyes, losing its interest in figuring them out, and once again lay sprawled on the nebula, squinting for a nap.
Lu Ye and Lih Shang dared not breathe, until the azure bird lay down again did Lu Ye slowly exhale, realizing the azure bird had no interest in them at all. It probably just noticed their starboat, found it novel, and pulled them over.
Luckily, they weren't swallowed; Lu Ye wondered if it was because the azure bird was full. Otherwise, it would have been a truly wrongful death.
Lu Ye slowly turned his head towards Lih Shang, exchanging a knowing glance. Lih Shang nodded in understanding.
As the two discreetly and cautiously prepared to leave while the azure bird napped, Yaya suddenly chirped excitedly and flew up from the starboat.
Lu Ye was startled, reaching out to grab her but Yaya moved too quickly; he didn't catch her.
Then he saw Yaya fly to the azure bird's beak, and soar upward, seemingly aiming to perch on its head!
Lu Ye's blood ran cold again...
But soon he realized he had overthought, as Yaya's commotion was significant, yet the azure bird showed no sign of minding, simply lying there on its own.
Until Yaya stood on the bird's head, waved at Lu Ye, and still the azure bird showed no reaction.
Such a formidable fierce bird couldn't possibly be unaware of this; its lack of reaction indicated it didn't care.
Lu Ye felt a mix of emotions; sometimes being too weak wasn't entirely bad. At least, the strong wouldn't bother with the weak.
"Let's go have a look!" Lu Ye turned to call Lih Shang. Since things had come to this, there was no use in fearing.
While speaking, they slipped out of the starboat and flew upward together, soon reaching the top of the azure bird.
Lu Ye initially thought Yaya had invited them up because she had found something unusual, but that wasn't the case. As Yaya lay comfortably on a feather on the azure bird's head, looking content, she patted the space next to her, motioning Lu Ye to lie down.
Lu Ye followed her lead, lying beside her, and Lih Shang lay on the other side. Yaya grew even happier, hugging their arms one in each hand, giggling non-stop.
Lu Ye lay down for a while, and finding nothing mysterious, he stood up again and looked around, soon being attracted by the star cloud that the azure bird was crouching.
This star cloud was originally a whole mass, but after being torn apart by the azure bird's sharp claws, it hadn't recovered. Standing from this vantage point and gazing down, the scene below appeared as if a grave mound had ruptured, revealing a pink interior.
Thinking it over, Lu Ye instructed Lih Shang to stay with Yaya at their original location while he soared down himself.
Lu Ye was curious about what mysteries might be hidden within this ruptured grave mound star cloud. Without the chance to investigate it before, now that there was an opportunity, he certainly wanted to take a look.
The grave mound star cloud had been torn open, and the large, insect-like creature inside had already been devoured by the azure bird, so it should no longer pose any danger.
Following the enormous crack, he entered the grave mound, greeted by a pink scene. Observing from inside, it was akin to a fleshy chamber resembling the guts of some creature. Lu Ye could feel there seemed to be some strange aura lingering within, one that felt somewhat familiar, yet he couldn't quite recall what it was.
After exploring for a while, Lu Ye's gaze was quickly drawn to something in the corner of the star cloud.
The object was several dozen yards long, with signs of fracture. Lu Ye pondered for a moment, realizing what it actually was—it was part of the large insect devoured by the azure bird, appearing to be its tail.
It seemed that, although the azure bird had devoured the large insect, some remnants remained, but these leftovers were so minor that the azure bird was completely uninterested.
However, Lu Ye was intrigued. While several dozen yards might seem small to the azure bird, it was quite sizable for him.
Stepping forward to where the insect tail was, the familiar aura intensified.
Lu Ye raised his hand to feel it, noting the texture was akin to flesh. To his surprise, this insect tail seemed to contain a very abundant and rich energy.
With a thought, he activated the power of the Talent Tree, invisible roots extended out, piercing into the insect tail.
Instantly, Lu Ye revealed astonishment, as the energy within the broken insect tail was indeed abundant, even surpassing his expectations.
To date, the resources he used for cultivation were mostly spirit jade, though he had tried refining several spirit crystals. In comparison, the energy contained within spirit crystals was purer and more intense than spirit jade, yet it was far surpassed by the energy in this insect tail.
Lu Ye's eyes lit up—this is a treasure!
This insect tail could entirely be used like spirit jade or even spirit crystals. With a length of several dozen yards, if converted into spirit crystals, it would be millions of pieces.
And this was just a trivial leftover; what was devoured by the azure bird was the main part.
This was merely one grave mound star cloud; the number of such grave mound star clouds within the Thousand Mounds Cemetery was incalculable. If each grave mound contained treasures like this, then this place would truly be a treasure land!
Lu Ye was somewhat puzzled about whether the strong cultivators in stellar space were unaware of the situation here, or simply didn't know of such a place, or even if they knew, they lacked the ability to obtain it.
Nevertheless, regardless of the situation, this insect tail of several dozen yards was his now!
Lu Ye felt delighted, not expecting that being drawn here by the azure bird would result in such an astounding find. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
He attempted to store the insect tail in his storage ring, but was unable due to its size. After inspecting, he discovered that the tail's end was still connected to the star cloud, likely the reason why the insect's tail broke during the azure bird's consumption.
Lu Ye could only take out the Boulder Mountain Saber and started cutting the insect tail into sections.
It was quite a physical task, as the tail was tough. Even assisted by the Divine Sharp Edge, the Boulder Mountain Saber's damage was very limited, forcing Lu Ye to invoke Tidal Sea Ten Thousand Waves, causing jagged edges to form on the saber's blade, slowly sawing the tail apart.
By the time he had sawn the tail into over ten sections and stored them all in the storage ring, several days had passed.
During this period, Lih Shang had come down to survey once, but seeing Lu Ye engrossed in work, didn't disturb him.
After several days, Lu Ye finally gathered all the tail segments, surveyed around to ensure nothing was overlooked, then flew out swiftly.
Reuniting with Lih Shang and Yaya, Lu Ye gazed at the azure bird below, feeling little fear towards it now—instead, filled with gratitude.
If he weren't eager to return to the Nine Provinces, he might even want to linger here a bit longer, potentially reaping more benefits from the azure bird.
The azure bird was still in a deep slumber; it seemed after ingesting that large insect-like creature, it needed some time to digest.
Lu Ye, along with Lih Shang and Yaya, returned to the starboat and resumed their journey home.
