Saving the Heartthrob Frenemy-Chapter 642: His little cabbage was robbed
And when he sees him coming down the stairs he would smile at him his smile as bright as the morning sun streaming through the ceiling-to-floor windows.
His heart fluttered with affection at the thought, a soft smile playing on his lips. He could almost hear Luo Muchen’s gentle voice saying, "Good morning sweetheart," with a playful spark in his eyes as he placed a steaming bowl in front of him.
But as his feet touched the bottom step his daydream shattered to pieces. The sight that greeted him was not of his naked boyfriend with only an apron on but his father’s dark expression. When their eyes met he felt shivers down his spine. He seemed to be getting angrier by the second and Qie Xieling couldn’t understand why.
He finally glanced down and saw that he was in his underwear with bright red hickeys on his chest and neck. It was obvious that the mosquitoes in this seemingly luxurious condominium were vicious. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
"Shit" he muttered under his breath before rushing back upstairs. His foot almost slipped as he ran back to his room.
Behind him, he could hear his dad’s voice yelling after him. "Don’t run sweetie!"
What the hell did he mean not to run? His father looked like he was about to hit him with a broomstick. That man looked mad. He was glad Luo Muchen wasn’t here otherwise his father would take it out on him.
He hastily put on a t-shirt that was after almost putting on the one they used to wipe away the mess last night. It was a good thing he took a second look otherwise he would have been so embarrassed.
He hopped into a comfortable pair of pants and rushed into the bathroom to brush his teeth and wash his face. After all that running around he took a breath, steeling himself for what was about to come.
He grabbed the door handle and pulled the door open before making his way back downstairs. He could feel the burning gaze burrowing through his skin as he walked down.
He cleared his throat before nervously saying, "Good morning..." He scratched the back of his head the tips of his ears red.
The house wasn’t silent. Sounds were coming from the kitchen and the sound of the TV playing in the background but his father’s silence was loud.
His father was still seated on the couch his eyes fixed on the tablet in his hands. The air around him felt heavier, charged with an unspoken tension that made Qie Xieling’s stomach tighten. The golden rule in the Qie family was to give Qie Ranzhe a moment when he was mad otherwise you would be shot with stray bullets.
He moved hesitantly towards the kitchen, his eyes lingering on his father, waiting for a response that didn’t come.
He entered the kitchen area and his dad placed the steaming bowl in front of him with a warm smile on his face that reached his eyes. The two people were extremely polar opposites. One was as sunny as the morning sun and the other a glacier in the south pole. How they could stay happily married was a mystery to him.
"Good morning, Dad," he said as he sat on the barstool. "Morning... did you sleep well?" A glint of worry shone in Wen Qinxi’s eyes for a moment but seeing that his son didn’t wince at all he heaved a sigh of relief. It seemed nothing had happened between Qie Xieling and Luo Muchen as of yet but those hickeys partially showing through the collar of his t-shirt made it hard to believe.
Just in case, he reached out and placed his hand on Qie Xieling’s forehead as though checking for a fever. Qie Xieling didn’t move. He just asked, "What’s wrong?"
"No nothing. I thought you were sick or something," he replied and stopped being nosy.
The person he should have been worried about wasn’t here. Sure he didn’t have a fever but there was some discomfort back there.
"Did you make this?" he asked with a smile. He was grateful for the comforting presence of his dad, whose mood seemed unaffected by the sombre atmosphere coming from the living room.
The congee was perfectly prepared, the lotus seeds tender and the chicken flavorful. He took a spoonful, the taste warming his insides.
"No, it was your boyfriend," he replied leaning against the counter with a teasing smile. Qie Xieling choked on his congee. His father who was still putting on a sour face showed some concern but his husband was taking care of it so he didn’t get up.
Wen Qinxi passed Qie Xieling a cup of warm water and he drank it. After putting the cup down he whispered a question. "Did you see him?" He thought that was why his father was upset with him but Wen Qinxi shook his head.
He passed over a note left on top of the bento. Qie Xieling read it. It was from Luo Muchen. He told him to reheat it since he was probably going to wake up late. He also said that he loved him and he would be back in the afternoon.
Qie Xieling shyly folded the note and slid it into his pocket under his dad’s teasing gaze. "He is perfect for you," he said and Qie Xieling’s face turned crimson. He lowered his head and continued eating.
Subconsciously, he stole glances at his father, who remained silent, the glow of the tablet illuminating his face.
Unable to hold back his curiosity he asked, "What’s up with him? He looks mad," in a low voice.
Wen Qinxi glanced at his man who was sulking and with a slight smile he replied, "Why else would he be mad? His little cabbage was robbed right under his nose and now everybody knows about it."
Qie Xieling the little cabbage, "???"
’What cabbage?’
Wen Qinxi chuckled softly when he saw the perplexed look on his face. "After you are done come sit with us," he said before ruffling his hair playfully.
He poured out some black coffee for his man and brought it to him. Qie Xieling who had no idea which crime he committed turned into a sloth. He slowed down eating so slowly that the congee almost grew cold.
