Chapter 49 -49 The ceremony is about to begin_1

“Not coming out yet? Are you planning to spend New Year’s in there?”

Colin retracted his foot and asked the dazed Tang Ken inside.

The protection on the first basement level was far inferior to that on the third basement level. If it were the third basement level, he’d have to find a key unless he chose to release himself.

But the bars on the first basement level were too thin; a single kick was all it took to solve the problem.

During this process, the three guards didn’t step forward; they just held their daggers from a distance and remained on alert.

“It’s no surprise they are trained by that old slick Warden.”

Colin wasn’t surprised at all and listened to the sound of footsteps coming from other parts of the dungeon. Before the group could assemble, he had already left the dungeon with Tang Ken.

Soon after, in a secluded grove, Tang Ken followed at Colin’s side, his face still carrying a look of disbelief.

“We just escaped like that?”

Walking through the woods, Tang Ken still felt a bit unreal, the biggest reason being…

It all seemed too easy, didn’t it?

In his imagination, his captain would have sneaked in secretly, obtained the keys through various means, released everyone, incited a riot with the other death row inmates, caused chaos in the prison, and then fought fiercely to break out and finally leave this damned place.

But reality turned out to be that the captain kicked down the doors with three kicks, and the prison gate with one kick.

The dungeon guards, who possessed strength more terrifying than that of normal humans, didn’t even dare to stop them as they walked out openly and blatantly.

Of course, the explosive strength exhibited by the captain also shocked him.

He felt that even Tyson might not be able to withstand decades worth of force behind that one kick.

“If you miss it, I can send you back. It seemed like you had quite a good relationship with the other criminals,” Colin responded helplessly, shaking his head. He wondered what was going through the mind of his subordinate. Did he really consider this place to be some kind of dragon’s den?

Without the “Virtue Knight” around, Colin could almost do as he pleased in Black Stone City as long as he avoided a few special places.

The word ‘invincible’ might as well be written on his face.

“Alright, captain, where do we go next? Back to the Bonfire Sacrificial Site?”

As Colin took off the guard’s clothes and tossed them into the “Storage Room,” he put on his own gray robe again and said:

“We won’t make it back in time now. It’s going to be night soon, and the night is very dangerous in this world. We’ll go back tomorrow to mark you, then decide on the next move. For now, there’s still one employee missing.”

“The female employee still hasn’t been found?” Tang Ken asked.

Now that his and another person’s identities were confirmed, the only one left without news was Lin Yilan, whom they’d seen at the meeting on Sunday.

Colin nodded, his brows furrowing, “I’m not sure what’s happening with her. I can’t sense her, and I’m not even sure where she last appeared.”

The only certainty was that this employee must already be in a state of death.

And this state of death had not seen a resurrection since.

A quick resurrection near the bonfire could take half an hour, or at most two to three hours if it was slow. For her, at least ten hours had passed without any signal coming through…

Colin had a vague feeling of foreboding, suspecting that she might have encountered some unknown horror that was preventing her from being resurrected.

Such things weren’t impossible in this world.

But before he could think further, a sudden heaviness overcame Colin, and he looked up to see the clouds churning, and the light dimming.

It seemed that it wouldn’t be long before night fell.

Immediately, he quickened his pace, and when he arrived at the city gate with Tang Ken, they were just about to close the drawbridge. Seeing this, Colin didn’t waste words; he took out a golden card with a flip of his hand.

With a hum, everything within a ten-meter radius centered on him came to a standstill.

Then, grabbing Tang Ken’s shoulder with one hand, Colin dragged him through the frozen figures and entered the town directly.

When Time Stop ended, Tang Ken once again revealed a bewildered expression, “What happened? Flash?”

Weren’t we just outside the gate? How did we end up in the city in the blink of an eye?

Some people were momentarily confused by the unexpected event, feeling that something wasn’t quite right, but upon closer inspection… it seemed like nothing was amiss?

Colin didn’t answer Tang Ken’s question; seeing the world grow darker with the rolling clouds, he prepared to fetch something from the Storage Room to light up.

But at that moment, a streak of firelight suddenly entered his field of vision from ahead.

In the center of Black Stone City, atop a towering tower-like structure, a massive flame was burning bright, casting a dazzling light.

The blazing firelight caused even the air around it to ripple with wave-like distortions.

And at that time, outside the glow, everything turned dark.

The previously seen clear division between light and shadow reappeared, only this time, the range of the light extended over the entire city.

Such a bizarre situation… Tang Ken couldn’t help but inhale sharply.

The world under this firelight, in a sense, was much brighter than daylight, especially since it was always overcast during the day.

“Let’s go, don’t stare too much, find a place to rest.”

Colin shifted his gaze away and, relying on his memory, made his way towards several inns he had seen before.

Meanwhile, outside a magnificent church in Black Stone City.

A group of Guards escorted about twenty prison carts and arrived at the doors of Black Stone City’s largest church.

When a Priest dressed in pure white and wearing a Ruby pendant approached, the captain of the escort quickly stepped forward:

“Father Alenna, these are the last ‘Beast Transformation Syndrome’ patients from the prison, a total of one hundred and seventy-six, including seven at the Second Order, the rest are still at the first stage; we have six vials of the liquefied form.”

The tall Father Alenna, dressed in the white garb of the Church and with hair graying, nodded, “I understand; thank you for your hard work. We’ll take it from here.”

He waved his hand, and immediately a group of Church employees, wearing silver masks and white robes, stepped forward to take over.

“By the way, have you found that special case yet?”

“Not yet,” the captain shook his head and explained the situation earlier.

Soon after the handover was complete, Father Alenna passed through a hall adorned with countless reliefs of Church miracles and entered Archbishop Laurenson’s room, situated behind the hall.

Within the simple yet spacious room, a massive figure sat in a chair, his back toward him.

After carefully closing the door, he heard the other party’s query:

“Has there been any news of that special patient who can fully transform into a beast at the Second Order yet still retain his sanity?”

The hoarse voice seemed to be enduring some tremendous agony.

Alenna glanced at the arm of the Archbishop resting on the armchair, beneath the holy sleeve extended not the arm of an elderly man, but a huge beastly paw covered with coarse, long hair.

“Since he entered that great wasteland, he’s quickly left no trace; the search teams have found nothing so far,” Alenna relayed what the Guard captain had said.

After speaking, he didn’t immediately hear a reply, but instead heard a breath laden with tyrannical emotion.

“The most crucial case is lost; the crimes of that Warden are beyond redemption.”

“‘Virtue Knight’ Ail Knight left today; I will contact the judges at the Tribunal of Judgment and prosecute him to the extreme penalty.”

“Mmm…”

A pained and suppressed voice followed, and after a while, he once again heard the voice of the Archbishop:

“Forget about it, no need to worry about him now. Tonight, bring all the Holy Beast Blood, as well as the patients with Beast Transformation Syndrome to the Church; I can no longer suppress this emotion…

“The ritual, can no longer be delayed.”
