Chapter 295: Chapter 295 : Six Months Later

Six months later.

Life was full with surprises. Some delightful, some heartbreaking.

When Shen Jingwei opened his eyes that morning, he couldn’t help but reminisce about the major life-changing events in his life, starting from childhood all the way to adulthood.

Truly, life had posed him a lot of challenges along the way.

But what did people say, again?

What didn’t kill you, made you stronger.

Shen Jingwei rubbed his weary eyes and proceeded to drag himself out of bed.

Yan Renzhong’s leaving marked a turning point in Shen Jingwei’s life.

The world, once filled with Yan Renzhong’s presence, now seemed muted. Shen Jingwei carried on with his life, but a part of him was forever missing.

Every introspective session was a poignant reminder of the love he’d lost.

"What a load of bull...!"

Pursing his lips, Shen Jingwei raised his head and glared at Yan Renzhong, who was cackling on the bed.

Only fifteen minutes were left before he was wheeled into the operating theater.

His beautiful hair had been shaved off entirely, leaving not a single strand behind.

But he was still the most handsome man in Shen Jingwei’s eyes.

This handsome man had just shoved a questionable manuscript in his hand, with the direction to read it.

Who would have guessed that said manuscript contained his rendition of Shen Jingwei’s life after his boyfriend’s death???

Shen Jingwei was close to ripping the manuscript into shreds.

"What the hell is this? Why are you writing this???"

Yan Renzhong could hardly stifle his laughter.

"Actually, I haven’t told you everything about the deal I had with Lu Shui."

"Oh?"

"She was somewhat fascinated with our love story and wanted to use it as a reference for her new novel."

"..."

"It’s titled ’Second Take On Romance’."

Shen Jingwei inhaled sharply when it dawned on him.

Second Take On Romance!

It was that cheesy novel Lu Shui worked on during the shooting period of Dance Of The Dragons’ first season!!!

"It’s a love story between two actors in film industry, one is an A-List actor while the other is a Z-List actor," so the author said at that time.

"..."

Shen Jingwei was dumbstruck. He even asked if Lu Shui drew her inspiration from his and Yan Renzhong’s love story, and she lied to him without getting red in the face at all.

The author was such a liar.

The author was such an opportunist!

"So you have been feeding her updates about us," Shen Jingwei remarked with a cold voice. "Is that so?"

"Well, not all," Yan Renzhong denied. "Only the pivotal moments that defined our journey together as we braved the currents of the entertainment industry."

Shen Jingwei’s lips were pulled into a stiff, thin line.

Why didn’t he believe his boyfriend, again?

Ah yes, probably because he was such a skilled liar.

"So why are you showing me this?"

"I don’t know what is going to happen to me," Yan Renzhong said. "But I still want to give Lu Shui the latest update regarding us. Other than me, only you can complete the story."

"..."

Shen Jingwei did not like the direction of the conversation at all.

Yan Renzhong reached out and squeezed Shen Jingwei’s hand gently.

"Do me this one favor, please? I never go back on my promises."

"..."

Sigh.

"Why must you write about the event when you do not survive?"

Shen Jingwei clawed into Yan Renzhong’s hand, his heart full of indignation.

"Must you paint the devil on the wall?"

"I didn’t."

Yan Renzhong shook his head.

"I just thought that... In the event of my demise, you might not be inclined to write your feelings and struggles down. So I did it to enlighten your burden."

"... Stupid."

If Yan Renzhong wanted to enlighten his burden, he simply had to get rid of the tumor successfully so they could resume their life together. How did he not understand this?

Yan Renzhong chuckled.

"Maybe I am. Anyway... I am giving you this manuscript now. I hope that you can help me write everything down, starting from these last few minutes before the surgery."

Shen Jingwei lowered his gaze, pretending to look at the manuscript.

In truth, he was trying hard not to break down in tears.

Their lives, once filled with the glamour of the stage, were suddenly upended as they turned their attention to Yan Renzhong’s health crisis.

After only one meeting with Dr. Kang and the surgical team in preparation for the surgery, the stark reality of the situation dawned upon Shen Jingwei.

With only around 20% success rate, he was forced to prepare for the worst outcome of the surgery.

Death.

How should one prepare for a loved one’s death?

Could he ever be prepared?

Why was the success rate so low?

Couldn’t Dr. Kang do anything to save Yan Renzhong?

Could they repeat the surgery if it failed once...?

These questions were voiced, and the answers were given. Unfortunately, none of them could appease Shen Jingwei. He realized that he didn’t really want answers.

He just wanted Yan Renzhong to come out of the operating theater in a healthy state, good as new.

But of course that wasn’t possible.

Otherwise, the success rate wouldn’t be as low as 20%.

"Hey."

Yan Renzhong poked a finger at Shen Jingwei’s cheek.

"What are you thinking about?"

"Nothing," Shen Jingwei snapped. "If you die on me, I am going to find a new boyfriend and marry him. I will write about the glorious life I lead with my husband and send the finished manuscript to Lu Shui."

"..."

Shen Jingwei scowled at his boyfriend.

"If you don’t want that to happen, you cannot die. You must survive. Do you hear me?"

Yan Renzhong’s lips slowly curved into a smile.

"I hear you loud and clear."

Fifteen minutes were gone just like that. Shen Jingwei held Yan Renzhong’s hand as he was wheeled along the sterile corridor, heading for the operating theater.

"I will be waiting for you," Shen Jingwei said. "You have to come back to me."

Yan Renzhong nodded.

"Mm. I will."

The doors to the operating theater was pushed open, and their hands parted.

"Yan Renzhong," Shen Jingwei choked out with a trembling voice. "I love you."

Yan Renzhong waved at him.

"I love you too, Jingbao. Don’t cry, alright?"
