Chapter 508: Chapter 508: A Dinner of Practice

Gu Yikun noticed his wife was angry. Since coaxing his wife wasn’t working, he turned to their daughter: "Be a good girl, darling. Daddy will take you to Uncle Yue’s place in a few days."

Gu Jinxiu was overjoyed, "When did Uncle Yue come back? I didn’t know!"

He couldn’t wait to visit Uncle Yue.

An Junxi knew Jinxiu really liked Uncle Yue. Before she came into the picture, Yue Xiaoyang had cared for Jinxiu more than Gu Yikun did.

An Junxi said, "Uncle Yue is not feeling well. Let’s visit him a few days later."

"Oh, Uncle Yue is unwell. I was wondering why he didn’t come to see me." The young master found a good explanation for himself.

Gu Jinxiu helped his dad coax his sister. Little Ai Xi wouldn’t listen to their parents, but as soon as her brother coaxed her, she would put on her coat.

An Junxi tapped her little mouth, "You only listen to your brother, huh?" 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

Gu Yikun was quite distressed. His daughter wouldn’t listen to him even now; what would he do in the future?

Little Ai Xi smiled, because her brother played with her every day. Of course, she would listen to him.

An Junxi put on her coat as well. Gu Yikun added a scarf for her, but she didn’t want it. Using his height to his advantage, Gu Yikun wrapped the scarf around her neck twice: "It’s late, let’s go."

He carried his daughter in front, Gu Jinxiu followed, leaving An Junxi glaring behind them.

Sister He packed some items for the baby and urged An Junxi, "What are you standing there for? Go downstairs."

An Junxi followed them down. He always freely came and went in her space as if it were his own home. Didn’t he know she was still angry?

Gu Yikun placed their daughter in the child seat in the back, and Gu Jinxiu went up with her. The car was a long bridge car, quite spacious.

He stood by the car door waiting for An Junxi. With half her face covered by the scarf, she climbed in. Sister He followed, and Gu Yikun was the last to get in.

In the car, An Junxi prepared their daughter: "Auntie is injured and in a lot of pain. Don’t be scared when you see her."

Ai Xi looked at her mom blankly, "Where is she hurt?"

"She has many injuries, but don’t be afraid. Auntie will be sad if you are scared."

Ai Xi’s eyes welled up, "Is Auntie in a lot of pain?"

"Yes."

The little girl grasped her mom’s hand, "Auntie is so pitiful." Children are inherently kind-hearted. Even though Ai Xi didn’t like her aunt, she still felt sad knowing her aunt was hurt.

An Junxi gently explained to her daughter to not avoid her aunt even if she was scared later.

The little one understood, "Okay, Ai Xi knows."

Gu Yikun’s eyes were full of warmth. His wife was truly the best woman in the world.

In contrast, he felt he was quite incompetent.

He held his wife and daughter’s hands. An Junxi pulled her hand back, talking only to the children the entire time, ignoring him.

Going out to eat with him didn’t mean past events hadn’t happened. She wasn’t petty, but she wasn’t overly generous either.

Gu Yikun felt neglected, silently cursing himself countless times. This was the mistake he deserved to bear.

The private hospital’s dining hall was decorated no less than a hotel. Due to Gu Qianlan’s condition, they all ate there.

The dishes were delivered from a hotel. The family gathered, and the children’s laughter eased the tensions among the adults.

Liang Huiyun noticed the injury on Gu Yikun’s left hand. He downplayed it with a few words: "I accidentally bumped it."

Gu Qianlan, worried about scaring Ai Xi, sat quietly in the corner. Gu Jinxiu handed her a gift, and Ai Xi also gave her an apple: "Here, Auntie."

Gu Qianlan touched the bandages on her face, "Ai Xi, aren’t you afraid of Auntie?"

"Yes," Ai Xi clung to her brother’s side as if that would make her less afraid, "but Mommy said not to be afraid."

Gu Qianlan’s eyes blurred with tears. She accepted the apple from the little girl, "Thank you, Ai Xi. Auntie will take this apple to the United States."

"What is the United States?"

"It’s a country far away from here. We have a house there. Auntie will go there to recover."

"When will you come back?"

"I’m not sure yet, but you can visit Auntie there."

"Are you going alone?"

"Grandpa and Grandma are going with me."

Ai Xi turned and hugged Grandpa tightly, "Grandpa, don’t go."

Gu Kuangyong’s eyes were moist, "Grandpa will come back to see Ai Xi. Grandpa knows Ai Xi is the most obedient."

Liang Huiyun felt deeply saddened. They were a family, but if she had held her tongue back then, they wouldn’t be living separately now.

Once words are spoken, they can’t be taken back. She was old enough to know this simple truth.

The hotel manager, bringing several servers, placed the dishes on the table. "Mr. Gu, Mrs. Gu, Madam, dinner is ready."

As they sat down for dinner, Liang Huiyun and Gu Kuangyong sat beside their grandchildren, leaving An Junxi to sit next to Gu Yikun, with Gu Qianlan beside her.

Gu Kuangyong invited Sister He and Sister Li to join them, but they waved their hands, "We’ll eat in the adjacent dining hall later."

Gu Kuangyong insisted, "It’s just a family meal. Please join us."

An Junxi also urged them to sit. Sister He and Sister Li took the remaining two seats, just filling the table.

It had been a long time since the Gu Family had a quiet and harmonious meal. During dinner, Liang Huiyun said to An Junxi, "The weather is getting cold. You should drink more soup to keep yourself healthy."

This was her way of extending an olive branch to the greatest extent.

Sister He, being perceptive, served more soup to An Junxi, "Madam really cares about you. Have another bowl."

An Junxi picked up the spoon, "Thank you, Mom."

Liang Huiyun’s expression softened slightly, "Hmm."

Sister He and Sister Li exchanged a look. The old lady rarely spoke softly, and the young madam was of a similar nature. Did this mean they had reconciled?

They gently shook their heads, indicating uncertainty. The two were both so stubborn.

The atmosphere at dinner was peculiar. If it weren’t for the children’s innocent chatter, An Junxi might have lost her appetite.

Gu Yikun picked food for his wife. She said, "You eat it yourself, don’t serve me."

Gu Yikun lowered his voice, "Everyone’s here, give me some face."

An Junxi felt she was losing her appetite. He cared about face, but what about her pride?

Gu Yikun peeled shrimp for her and tried to earn some points: "I’ve never peeled shrimp for anyone else."

Though his left hand was bruised, he still peeled shrimp for her, showing sincerity.

An Junxi smirked, "I am truly honored."

"Don’t be honored, if you like, I’ll peel shrimp for you every day."

Gu Jinxiu secretly rejoiced. Dad and Mom weren’t fighting anymore, and things were just like before.

Gu Yikun endlessly tried to please her. An Junxi finally couldn’t stand it. What would her in-laws think of her? Would they think she was putting on airs?

She glared at him, "If you serve me again, I won’t eat."

Gu Yikun quickly responded, "Then I’ll eat it myself."

Gu Qianlan could only eat the bland food in front of her. The lavish dishes on the table had nothing to do with her, but she still felt the meal was delicious.

After leaving for the United States, family dinners would become even rarer.
