Secretly Married to the Ice-Cold CEO-Chapter 604: Reunion
On New Year’s Eve, the whole family gathered together.
An Junxi sat inside the house, watching through the floor-to-ceiling windows as her husband set off fireworks with their two children outside. The fireworks burst into brilliant colors against the dark night sky, illuminating the night with a dazzling display.
The lights were on all night at the mansion, and the servants bustled around the yard hanging festive lanterns. Everyone’s faces were beaming with cheerful smiles.
Ai Xi, like a little bunny, followed her dad around. When the fireworks exploded, she jumped into his arms, a little scared but very excited. "Daddy, look, it’s so beautiful!"
"Yes, it’s very beautiful," Gu Yikun said, holding his princess. "Do you like it?"
"I love it!"
Gu Jingxiu was allowed to set off a small type of firework. He felt especially proud, striking a cool pose for his mom inside the house, saying, "Mommy, watch my performance!"
An Junxi gave him a thumbs-up through the glass. Gu Jingxiu, head held high, went to light the firework. Twice he retreated too quickly and, looking back, saw that the firework hadn’t gone off at all.
Grandpa, grandma, and the grandparents laughed until they had tears in their eyes. Gu Kuangyong went over to guide him, "Don’t be afraid, this kind of firework has very little power!"
Gu Jingxiu felt his pride was hurt and said, "I know that, I just wanted to try it out."
Mr. An also joined in like a child, competing with Jingxiu for the fireworks, "Let grandpa help you."
Gu Jingxiu stomped his feet, "Grandpa is too naughty, stealing my fireworks!"
"Haha! Grandpa’s not stealing!"
The yard was lively and harmonious. An Junxi and Gu Qianlan watched them play from the warm house.
She and Gu Qianlan didn’t have much to talk about and didn’t want to force the conversation. But it was Gu Qianlan who actively started a conversation, asking if she was tired raising Ai Xi on the island.
An Junxi didn’t understand why Gu Qianlan was suddenly so interested in topics about children. She replied, "Raising children is definitely tiring. Kids can be naughty and frustrating sometimes, but when you see their smiling faces and hear them call you ’Mommy,’ it’s all worth it."
Gu Qianlan seemed enchanted by the warm scene of her brother holding his daughter. She said, "Ai Xi is so cute. I want to have a daughter too."
An Junxi just took it as a joke, "When you find that special someone, you’ll have a daughter too. By then, Ai Xi might be in elementary school. She likes being the big sister and might even help you take care of the baby."
Gu Qianlan thought of that scenario and laughed, "Maybe I won’t get married. Adopting a daughter sounds nice too."
An Junxi didn’t take it to heart. Gu Qianlan was still young. Regardless of past heartbreaks, time is the best healer. When she meets the right person, she’ll naturally walk down the aisle.
Gu Yikun finished setting off fireworks with the kids and then helped his father put up the Spring Festival couplets. The two children ran around, handing things over, having a great time.
After a while, Gu Yikun turned to check on his wife in the house. His wife and sister were sitting together, chatting peacefully. Warmth surged in his heart.
If it weren’t for Xi Xi, he wouldn’t have known how warm it could be to have the whole family together for New Year.
An Junxi noticed her husband looking over often. She waved at him, a cute smile appearing on her face.
His wife’s smile doubled Gu Yikun’s efficiency. He quickly finished putting up the couplets and came inside to sit next to her, asking gently, "Are you sleepy?"
"No, the kids are having so much fun. I can’t play with them, but watching them play is also wonderful."
Outside, Gu Jingxiu was teaching his sister to read the couplets. Little Ai Xi didn’t know what the couplets meant but earnestly followed her brother’s lead.
She tugged her brother’s hand, "Brother, you know so many characters. You’re amazing!"
Gu Jingxiu puffed out his small chest, "Of course, I’m skipping a grade to start middle school soon!"
Little Ai Xi was envious, "I also want to go to school, but Mommy and Daddy don’t go, only me. I’m scared."
Gu Jingxiu said, "The international kindergarten is next to brother’s school. Don’t worry, no one dares to bully Gu Jingxiu’s sister!"
Liang Huiyun heard the siblings’ conversation and laughed, saying to Mrs. An, "These two are so smart for their age. I doubt Ai Xi would be bullied; she’s more likely to bully others."
Mrs. An agreed, "Ai Xi is like a little adult. Listen to her lecturing others—she’s unbeatable in arguments."
They played until midnight. Mr. and Mrs. An had the driver take them back to Yuhua Mansion. Liang Huiyun reminded them, "Come over for dinner on the second day of the New Year."
An Junxi came out to see her parents off. Mr. An said, "It’s cold outside. Go back upstairs and rest."
Watching the car drive away, An Junxi still wanted to play with the kids a bit more but couldn’t fight off the sleepiness. Gu Yikun took her upstairs to sleep. Before bed, he insisted on applying pregnancy oil for her, saying, "The doctor said this is the best brand to prevent stretch marks."
An Junxi looked at her big belly, a bit worried.
Gu Yikun quickly reassured her, "Even if you get stretch marks, you won’t be ugly. I will love you just the same."
An Junxi playfully said, "That’s not what I’m worried about. I’m thinking the baby is getting too big, and it might be difficult during delivery."
Gu Yikun comforted her, "There will be a whole team of doctors and nurses. I’ll be in the delivery room with you. Don’t worry."
An Junxi softly murmured their baby’s name, "Gu Jingyue, it sounds so heroic. I wonder if he’ll be as handsome as his dad."
Gu Yikun proudly said, "With our excellent genes, our child will definitely be handsome."
An Junxi had her husband help her lie down. She now sleeps with her back against his chest, feeling very secure and at ease.
Early the next morning, little Ai Xi came knocking on the door. An Junxi was still asleep, but the little one climbed into bed, wishing them a prosperous New Year and holding out her chubby hand for a red envelope.
Gu Yikun, helpless with his daughter, said, "My little princess usually likes to sleep in. But she gets up earlier than Dad when it’s time for red envelopes."
Little Ai Xi’s eyes crinkled with a smile, "I want lots of red envelopes, Daddy."
An Junxi got up to wash up. Gu Yikun told her, "If you’re tired, you can sleep a little longer."
But it wouldn’t be appropriate to sleep in on the first day of the New Year, would it? "I’m not tired. I’ll nap at noon."
Gu Yikun helped her squeeze toothpaste, while the little clingy princess followed her parents. She watched her mom wash up, copying her every move.
While An Junxi was applying moisturizer at the dressing table, Ai Xi brought her little face closer, "Mommy, I want some too."
An Junxi dabbed a bit on her, and she patted her face, mimicking her mom’s actions, then stood up to look in the mirror, "So pretty!"
An Junxi chuckled, "You little vainpuss, Ai Xi."
"You vainpuss, Mommy."
Little Ai Xi loved all the bottles and jars on her mom’s table. She wanted to play with her mom’s lipstick, but An Junxi hurriedly called her husband over to take the girl away, "Honey, get Ai Xi dressed in the new outfit I laid out on the sofa last night."
Gu Yikun complied, "Ai Xi, don’t bother Mommy while she’s putting on makeup. Come to Daddy."
Ai Xi pinched her dad’s cheek, "I want to put on makeup too, okay?"
"What makeup for a little kid?"
Gu Yikun easily lifted his daughter with one hand, "Come on, let’s put on your new clothes."
