Seven Sins System-Chapter 442. Illegal
Seven Sins System Chapter 442. Illegal
The thought entertained me, nearly coaxing a chuckle from my lips. The idea of a goddess being jealous of me was amusing and absurd in equal measure.
Yet, what puzzled me more was why she remained. With her teleportation skills, she could leave in an instant, escape this scene, yet she stayed.
Red’s grip tightened momentarily, her head bowed.
“But… Why, my Lord?” she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. “Why would you not want to return? We need you. I need you.”
I sighed.
“There are complexities that go beyond our battles, Red. My absence was not just a choice; it was a necessity. Returning would have put you and many others in more danger. Even what I do now is illegal.”
She pulled back slightly, looking up at me with tears glistening in her eyes. “I tried to summon you because I believed in you, in your strength and leadership. You were born to take over this realm. You said that to me, remember?”
“Yes, I remember it,” I replied softly. “But the agreement forbids me to do it.” I let out a long exhale as I remembered what I had done to win the war. I had been through a lot of battles and conquered many lands, only to end up stuck in a dumb agreement.
“Sometimes, we can't always have things go our way. “
Her gaze locked onto mine.
Her eyes were intense, searching for answers in my expression.
“Since you are here, does it mean there will be a new war? Did your father give you an important mission?” she guessed, her voice laced with concern.
I took a moment. Then, with a subtle gesture to Puriel, I forced a dry smile.
“About the war…” I began, trying to find the right words.
“As you can see, devils and goddesses are still on good terms. The agreement is still binding on us. Unless the terms change, there will be no war between us. We are investigating something else,” I explained, my voice steady.
Red frowned, her curiosity piqued.
“What is it, My Lord?” she asked, her face turning serious.
Her demeanor shifted in an instant, her posture becoming formal and respectful. She placed a hand on her chest and bowed deeply, a gesture reminiscent of the times when I led her and the others into battle.
“Tell me. I’m ready to serve you,” she announced with conviction.
“Uh… first things first, you should stop with all the formalities,” I stated, my tone firm but gentle.
“I did not come to this realm as the Lord of Wrath or the Prince of Darkness. I came as a human named Allen, and I want to keep it that way.”
Red tilted her head, a frown deepening the lines on her forehead.
“So this is an undercover mission?” she asked, seeking clarification.
“Yes,” I confirmed, nodding.
Her frown deepened, and her confusion became even clearer. “Against who?” she asked, her voice tinged with frustration.
“The goddesses know you are here,” she continued, glancing at Puriel.
“She knows,” I pointed to Puriel. “The others don’t,” I added. “Also, our enemies this time might be mortals or maybe my own kin.”
Red’s eyes widened slightly at that revelation. “Does this mean you are not sure who your enemies are?” she confirmed, her voice filled with disbelief.
“Unfortunately, yes,” I admitted with a heavy heart.
“I don’t know who our enemy is clearly. What is certain is that they are trying to disrupt the balance between the three realms.”
Red looked down. I could see the gears turning in her mind. She had always been quick to adapt, but this situation was unlike any we had faced before.
“Disrupting the balance between the realms…” she repeated, her voice barely above a whisper.
“That’s serious, my Lord. If the balance is disrupted, it could lead to chaos, not just war.”
“Exactly,” I replied, my voice grim. “That’s why it’s crucial we tread carefully. We need to gather information and understand who is behind these disturbances before taking any direct action.”
“How can I help you?” Red asked. She looked at me with eyes full of determination.
But before I could respond, Puriel’s voice cut through.
“It’s not ‘how can I help you?’ The real question is, can we trust you?” she said, her tone sharp and unyielding.
The tension in the room ratcheted up instantly.
Puriel and Red had clashed many times in the past, their relationship fraught with animosity.
Red’s hatred for Puriel was evident in every tense line of her body, while Puriel’s disgust was equally palpable. In Puriel’s eyes, Red was a traitor, a mortal who had sided with the devils rather than her own kind.
“She is my loyal soldier,” I stated firmly, looking at Puriel with a warning in my eyes.
“Was,” Puriel corrected, her voice cold. “You haven’t seen each other for a long time, and there is no contract between you and her. She might be the main culprit. She could have disrupted the gate between realms just to lure you back to this realm,” Puriel said.
Red’s eyes widened in shock and anger.
“How dare you!” she spat, her voice trembling with fury. “I would never betray my Lord!”
“Calm down, both of you,” I said, raising a hand to quell the rising storm. “This is not the time for infighting.”
Red took a deep breath, her chest heaving. She struggled to rein in her emotions. “I swear, my Lord, I have done nothing to harm you or disrupt the balance. I have only ever sought to serve you.”
Puriel’s eyes narrowed, her suspicion unwavering. “Words are easy, but actions speak louder.”
