Chapter 1587: Castle in the sky (2)

"Let us go first." Klein said as soon as we came close to the castle on the clouds.

I knew that it wouldn’t matter what I said to them, so I just gave a simple nod while waiting for them to scope out the area.

It wasn’t just Klein and the royal guards alone that were with me, we had also brought the people from the Holy Empire as well.

After all, if they weren’t here, then the wyverns wouldn’t be as effective.

It was only with their holy magic that the wyverns would be able to fight against the corruption energy.

So it was necessary to bring them along.

After everything that we had been through, the priests and holy knights from the Holy Empire could be trusted. Though the way that they looked at me from time to time was still concerning.

As soon as they approached the castle, they didn’t hesitate to release their flame breaths.

These were flame breaths that were filled with holy magic from the priests and the holy knights. That meant that these flame breaths weren’t as harmless as the divine energy flames that Joan released.

Holy magic was only able to imbue holy energy into the flames, it wasn’t as if it transformed the flames.

When they were done, the flames had singed quite a bit of the area around the castle.

Without even doing anything, they had destroyed quite a bit of the landscaping.

Though to the royal guards, they would rather be safe than sorry.

It was better to ensure that the landing area was clear of any corruption energy than to land and be entangled by it.

However, the shots that they fired at the castle seemed to have been stopped by something. It was as if there was some kind of barrier around the castle that had stopped all of the flame breaths that they shot at it.

It seemed like Klein and the others wanted to fire more shots at the castle just in case, but I stopped them in the end.

"It’s a barrier that’s meant to protect the castle, don’t you think that it would have a proper purpose? It’s clearly there to protect those that want to attack the castle and steal the Relic of Destruction. Stop it before we end up causing a bigger mess."

Though they didn’t seem fully convinced, they did follow my orders to stop firing at the castle.

However, Klein also didn’t allow me to go down right away.

Instead, he just sent his people down to make sure that the courtyard of the castle was completely cleared.

By the time that they were done, it was charred.

There really wasn’t anything left in the courtyard with them shooting their flame breaths like this. The wild exterior that had been covered in vines and such had been completely turned into charcoal.

It was so dark that one might have even thought it was covered in corruption energy.

When I landed, I didn’t even bother looking around the area since there was nothing to find here. With how thorough they were, there really wasn’t a single thing that was left here as a result of their baptism by flames.

So that was why I was only interested in the castle.

For a barrier to still remain after all this time, it was clear that there was something that was different about this castle. It meant that there had to be some kind of special mechanism that was in this castle that was keeping this barrier up.

It was most likely something that was similar to the labyrinth that I had faced in all of the other ruins.

Though I was still curious just what this barrier was for.

But when I expected to hit the barrier, I found that there wasn’t anything that stopped me.

I was the only one that this happened to.

The others all had something suddenly stop them from moving forward.

The moment that Klein and the others saw this, it really seemed like they wanted to attack the barrier again.

But I stopped them once more before waving for Joan to come over as well.

The castle wasn’t big enough for her, so I didn’t have her follow me. But now that they seemed like they wanted to blow up the barrier around the castle, I really didn’t have a choice.

When Joan came forward, she was able to easily pass through the barrier just like I had.

Klein and the others were confused why this was the case and they went forward to test the barrier again for themselves, but they weren’t able to make it through like Joan had.

"It’s a barrier against those that don’t have the Mark of God. I think that there’s nothing else that proves that this was a barrier that was created to keep out those that aren’t allowed in this place."

Klein and the other royal guards seemed like they still wanted to break the barrier, but it was different for the holy knights and the priests now that I had said this. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓

The way that they looked at the barrier was also different.

It seemed like they wanted to take a closer look at this barrier to see what it was exactly. But the way that they were looking at it was as if they were looking at some kind of holy relic.

This wasn’t strange since a barrier that was able to tell if someone had a Mark of God or not was certainly something that was related to the gods. Only gods would be able to create a barrier of this level.

So to them, it really was a holy barrier.

With them keeping Klein and the royal guards back, I was able to make my way over to the doors of the castle and head in.

When I actually came to the doors, they opened on their own as if they sensed something.

It was just that the moment that the doors opened...

"What happened here?"
