Single Spell Sorcerer-Chapter 129: Elemental Summons
Chapter 129: Elemental Summons
The monkey’s water blast shot toward Lucille while she was still mid-air. Everyone could foresee what would happen when it hit her. Lucille, after all, was the physically weakest member of their party.
However, Just as the pressurized stream was about to connect, she stepped onto what looked like empty air and dodged at the last moment, landing somewhere sideways.
Melayne gasped in surprise.
Before anyone could process what had happened, the monkey shifted its attention to Melayne, and she immediately stepped back, getting ready to fight it. Ning rushed for the monkey.
Jax stared at them, and wanted to go help, but his eyes were fixed at the small spot of land at the center. He had found an opportunity to get the flower.
He pushed through the water as fast as he could manage, heading straight for the small island. As he got close, however, water bubbled next to him.
The monkey flew out of the water and directly struck him in the chest with its pressurized water blast.
Jax’s armor absorbed most of the impact, but the force still drove the air from his lungs and sent sharp pain shooting through his torso, sending him flying away. Jax was submerged underwater for a few seconds, wondering if his ribs were fine at all.
He managed to push himself up despite the pain, and heard concerned cries from the others.
"I’m okay," he said as Ning arrived to look at him.
Jax grabbed his chest and looked toward the monkey.
"Did you see it?" Ning asked softly. "The monkey came straight for you when you went for the flower. I think it’s protecting it."
Jax had the same thought. Let’s test that," he said. The Monkey began fighting them once again, arriving all over the place to shoot them with water, not allowing them to get a hit in. As it traveled around, Jax moved toward the flower again.
Sure enough, the monkey immediately abandoned its position and rushed toward him, confirming Ning’s hypothesis.
Jax defended himself this time, moving back.
"You’re right," Jax said, still catching his breath. "It doesn’t want us near that flower."
"Why though?" Ning questioned, looking at the flower curiously. "You’re the herbs guy. What is that flower exactly?"
Jax shook his head. "I have no idea. It wasn’t in the book I read about. It should be of a higher grade than everything I read."
"If the boss is protecting it this fiercely, it must be something incredible," Lucille said from the back. "Maybe it could help in our journey. What if... we were to keep it?"
The suggestion hung in the air for a moment, but Jax shook his head. "I can’t afford to waste this opportunity. We don’t know when else we’ll find this boss, and we’re on a time limit."
The fight resumed with renewed intensity.
The monkey darted between them, using its superior mobility to stay ahead of their attacks. But this time, they were ready for its patterns. Everytime they got close to the flower, the boss showed up.
Jax hit it a few times in such a way, avoiding as much damage as he could. Ning baited the monkey by moving toward the flower as well, and struck as it emerged from the water.
His spear found its mark, piercing deep into the monkey’s chest—the first of the five Critical spots.
The creature’s shriek echoed across the lake. Suddenly, it fell back, Its body beginning to change. Blue fur sprouted from between its fish-like scales as the boss clearly entered its second stage.
They were ready for the change, but they weren’t ready for what came next.
Two massive forms materialized on either side of the transformed monkey, nearly 5 times as large as the monkey. On the left, a giant ape made of solid ice emerged from the water, ice forming around its legs where it touched the lake. On the right, an enormous shark composed entirely of liquid water circled them, its body glimmering with stray light.
The monkey stepped back from the fight, and the elemental beasts it had summoned protected it.
Jax and the rest wanted to go for the money, but they had to go through the two giant beasts first.
Ning and Jax started fighting the shark that moved by them in the water. Jax cut its body with his axe, but the axe did absolutely nothing to the water body at all. Its simply passed through it without damage.
Ning was even worse than Jax. he could only target its Critical spot, and all 3 of its spots roamed throughout its body in a constant state of flux. He had no way of hurting the shark, not without extreme luck.
Melayne arrived suddenly, and swung down with her sword. The flames of her sword singed through the water, creating steam wherever it cut. The shark was taking damage.
"I can handle the shark," Melayne called out, her runic sword beginning to glow with fire-based enchantments. "You two take the ice ape."
Ning and Jax nodded, going for the ape.
The battle became a desperate struggle. The ice ape’s massive fists created shockwaves through the water with each swing. Melayne wasn’t having an easy time either as the Shark too attacked her with great might.
Still, they fought with all that they had.
The monkey stayed at the back, watching its two elemental summons fight the rest.
Lucille’s eyes were on the monkey at all times. Near the end of the grueling fight, Lucille finally used her spell. She had used it many seconds prior, but it had been delayed until this point. Her magic, a fiery explosion, flew past the two protectors and struck the monkey.
The monkey immediately burned with heat that made Jax and the others protect their face. The shockwave from the attack sent waves through the water. The heat from it weakened the ice ape and it dealt more damage to the shark.
Melayne immediately dispatched the shark, and Ning took the opportunity to hit the ape on its final critical spot. When they did, the Shark melted back into water, and the ice ape shattered into shards of ice that floated around the lake.
Jax looked beyond the two defeated summons and the monkey, praying that the flower was fine. To his relief, the tree had been whipped around in the explosion, but the flower was fine.
As the steam cleared from the burnt monkey, its disfigured body showed itself. Water rushed up its body, healing the parts where it was hurt. Its body began expanding rapidly, growing to twice its original size as its face twisted into something demonic.
The water of the entire lake rippled with its power, splashing around in an unpredictable pattern. The monkey roared and waves of water splashed onto the group. As the monkey entered its third stage, the water calmed suddenly.
Then, it pointed toward the group and suddenly 4 streams of water sprouted from around the lake, targeting each one of them. Each sprout of water was of the same strength and speed as the jets of stream it shot from its hand.
Only this time, the volume was nearly 3 times as much. Getting hit from that would come very close to killing anyone that wasn’t properly armored.
