Jax sat in the carriage on the way to Trimheart City, staring at his status info. There were only seven days remaining. A weird sense of nervousness was beginning to creep into him at this point.

If I fail, I am going to be kept here for a year, he thought. I cannot fail.

He had to enter as soon as he could and find the ticket that would allow him to get to the next Carriage.

He absentmindedly opened the map category, and it revealed a large map in his eyes with two cities named on it: Seacrest City and Saltport City.

The three fields he had been to had been marked as well, but they weren’t as clear as the city itself. It only mapped the area he had been to, and in a field that constantly changed, the map only showed the shape of the area and never what was inside of it.

What did matter was finding a way to return if one did get lost.

It was afternoon again when the carriage left. This time, the journey was a little longer, taking close to four hours even in the carriage. Trimheart City was a little more inland from the coast, with more than a few rolling hills to cross that would take their time.

They passed by a field called the Howling Forest, which apparently held some strong wolf monsters. However, it had long since been depleted thanks to all the people who visited the forest in the morning, so there were none that escaped out to attack.

As they went by, Jax got to see that the cities were not the only places where humans had found residence. There were villages and towns all along the way, far in the distance, without any gates or giant walls.

They were all human settlements that had slowly expanded over time.

By the time the carriage arrived at Trimheart City, the sun was far in the west, its orange glow beginning to color everything in its light.

Trimheart City was a massive city, set on flat land with large walls constructed all around it. As Jax got out of the carriage, he stared at the walls nearly 50 feet tall, half of them not even visible from where he stood.

He walked into the city, seeing the bustling atmosphere even more exaggerated than either of the two other cities he had been to. This was most definitely a great city.

Trimheart City was one of the bigger cities of the Talaris Kingdom, the biggest one being Talarim City, which was the capital. However, from what Jax understood, that city was so far away that it would take him nearly a week of constant carriage rides to get there.

Trimheart City would have to do for him.

Upon entering the city, Jax quickly went to find himself a place to rest for the night. He needed a good night’s rest for what he was going to have to do tomorrow, but to his surprise, it was rather difficult to find a tavern with an empty room.

Because of the number of people that regularly traveled here to enter the maze, rooms were constantly occupied.

It took him nearly an hour before he found a place, and even then, it wasn’t that good a room. It would have to do, though.

After finding the room, Jax made his way to find where he would have to go tomorrow. All he knew was that this city had access to the maze—a gate to it. He didn’t know where it was.

It didn’t take him too long to find it.

At the center of the city was a long golden archway with a glowing swirl of energy at its center. As Jax got close to it, he received a notification.

<You are approaching the Unending Maze>

<All Requirements are met>

<Time remaining until reset: 06:07:11:45>

<You may enter>

"There’s not much time remaining, huh?" Jax said.

"Six days is plenty of time," Gemma said. "But if you want to, you can wait for the next maze too. There is nothing wrong with that. You will be stronger by then, which will give you a higher chance of victory."

"No," Jax said. "I’ll enter tomorrow. The faster I go, the sooner I can gain everything I need."

He stepped away from the archway and watched as a few people entered it from time to time. To Jax’s surprise, most of those who entered did so in groups of four and five. They entered as parties.

Upon asking Gemma, he learned that one could enter with any number of people, up to five. The only difference was that they would need to find that many tickets in order to leave.

If they failed to get a ticket for a single person, they would all fail.

Even with that caveat, going into the maze in parties was a genuine advantage compared to a regular person. Jax nearly wondered if he should find a party to join too. But at this point, he wouldn’t do well with a party he found.

There would be a lack of communication and trust that simply couldn’t be forged in such a short time. The best thing he could do right now was trust in himself.

With that, he returned to the tavern for the night. Tonight, he didn’t absorb Navi more than he needed to. He wasn’t looking to break through or even improve. He just needed to be ready for tomorrow.

He checked on his supplies, weapons, armor, helmets, and everything else he had bought for this exact moment. After he checked everything, he went to bed.

The best preparation for tomorrow would be a good night’s sleep.

After all, he had no idea when it would be next that he would finally get to rest.
