Single Spell Sorcerer-Chapter 68: Kobold Boss
Chapter 68: Kobold Boss
Jax felt nothing when he finished killing the last of the remaining 4 beasts. It was supposed to be a duel, but he had easily killed them all after using his spell and restricting them of all motion.
Once all six of the beasts were dead at his feet, Jax turned to look at the boss that still remained on the throne.
The large kobold stared at him for a long time before slowly standing up. At its full height, the beast was nearly 8 feet tall. That was over 2 feet taller than what Jax was.
It stepped down from the throne, walking over to the barren ground where its subordinates had died, its armor clanking with each step. It stopped just a short distance beyond where Jax could use his spell, and suddenly stomped its feet.
The ground trembled at its stomp, and from behind the chair walked out a small kobold, with brown clothes wrapping its decrepit body, using a cane to keep itself up.
Jax frowned. There were still more kobolds around? He would have to be careful.
The large kobold reached behind its back and pulled out its weapons that Jax hadn’t seen before.
Two axes.
They were stone axes, stuck to a wooden handle with strong strings. They were one-handed axes, which the kobold carried one in each hand.
It roared after bringing out its axes, seemingly issuing a challenge to Jax.
Jax could feel clarity slip out of his mind by the second. He couldn’t wait any longer. He didn’t give an answer to the challenge issued by the beast. He attacked it instead.
Jax ran toward the large kobold, using his spell the moment it was in range. Poison threads wrapped around its body instantly, going around for multiple loops to keep the beast from moving.
The beast froze in place, unable to get rid of the threads.
Jax jumped to reach its neck and swung.
The kobold did nothing but stand there, letting the axe fall on its neck.
Jax was almost glad to be done with the battle so quickly, but there was a reason why this beast guarded the 3-star ticket.
Even as the axe landed, Jax could tell why the kobold hadn’t dodged.
The axe struck the armor and Jax felt the force rebound onto his arm. The jolt of pain that surged through his body at that moment was enough to clear his foggy mind for just a minute.
The beast stumbled sideways for a few steps and fell, but only because its entire body was wrapped in threads. The beast itself had taken little to no damage.
Jax felt his hands shake from the force and looked at the place where he had attacked. The armor around the kobold’s neck that extended down from its helmet had a chink in it, but nothing more.
It was unlikely the beast took any damage on the inside at all.
An orange glow appeared inside the threads at that very moment, and at the very next instance, it exploded. The threads were torn away as the beast released its arm. Some poison threads still clung to its body, but the beast seemed to lack any care for that.
Jax tightened his palm around his axe, feeling his mind grow foggy as the pain disappeared. He looked at the beast, trying to search for a spot he could attack where there was no armor.
Very few spots were of that nature on the beast’s body, mostly the back of its elbow and knee. There was no other spot.
The only other possibility could be to keep attacking the armor on the same spot until he broke through it and hit the inside. There was already a chink in the armor, so it wasn’t impossible to break it entirely.
As the beast slowly got back up, Jax moved to use his spell. Right before he could use it, however, he felt a sense of restriction grow around his foggy mind, while at the same time a notice flashed before him and in his mind.
<You’ve been cursed>
Jax immediately realized what was happening and opened his Restriction category to check on what had happened.
Kobold Mage’s Curse: One spell at random, [Divine Threads], is sealed by Kobold Mage. Lasts: 20 seconds.
’A random spell?’ Jax felt anger boiling in him. ’I only have one spell!’
He looked at the decrepit old kobold next to the throne and knew this had to be its job. He wanted to kill it, but the boss was the one that he needed to care for at the moment.
With his axes, the boss came for Jax, swinging down on him. Jax tried to stop each attack, fighting the axe back with his own axe, but the strength gap between them was understandably wide.
Jax stopped what attacks he could, and dodged what he couldn’t. The boss was thankfully not very agile and couldn’t attack fast enough to kill Jax.
Jax felt his mind clear up a bit as the restriction placed on him by the Kobold Mage disappeared.
Instantly, he used his spell, wrapping the boss in more threads, this time in more places than just one. Loops of strings appeared all around the boss’s body—around the neck, the elbow, the legs, the waist—any place that Jax could target.
The more poison threads he wrapped the boss in, the faster he would be able to kill it.
Once constricted, Jax swung at the kobold’s knees, hard enough to fell a massive tree. The axe struck the side of the boss’s knee, instantly buckling.
Jax grimaced in pain as the rebound nearly made his axe slip. He pulled the axe back, and sucked in cold air at the sight of minimal damage.
How had he hit the beast in the joint and still done so little damage?
It appeared that physically wounding the boss was not a chance at all. The only way to kill it was through time, letting the poison threads do their work.
But then... How much longer could he stand?
As the collapse from the potion got closer and closer, Jax feared that he may have made the wrong choice in coming here.
