Single Spell Sorcerer-Chapter 90: In Search for a Party
Chapter 90: In Search for a Party
Jax was confused upon seeing the woman before him. "Can I help you?" he asked, while trying to think back to an hour or so earlier. Had the owner misunderstood what he had said?
He had clearly not purchased another service from the server today.
The woman before him, with curly red hair and a beautiful face with freckles, smiled at him. It was a rather bashful smile. "May I come in?" she asked.
Jax moved aside, letting her get in. He didn’t really know why he did that, just that he knew he had to do it.
"Is there a reason why you came up here?" Jax asked the woman.
The woman’s face grew a shade redder, matching her hair. "Surely you won’t make me really say it out loud," she said.
Jax wasn’t sure if she was talking about what he thought she was talking about. He didn’t want the misunderstanding, so he laid it out clearly.
"I’m sorry if I’m mistaken, but did the owner send you here? I have not requested any service today, nor have I paid for any."
The woman pouted a little. "I know," she said. "But I was still wondering if you were open to accepting this service."
"I..." Jax knew he really wanted it. His body was already reacting, but he still kept his cool. "I’m sorry, but I won’t be needing it."
He didn’t have the money to pay for it. Or should he maybe just pay her and be done with it? It was only 5 opal stones after all.
’Just 5?’ he needed to get a grip over himself. ’That’s akin to having killed a regular 5-Star monster. I don’t have that sort of strength just yet.’
The woman looked at him for a while, seemingly studying his every expression. "I... I don’t expect you to pay me."
"Huh?" Jax’s attention was drawn right back to her. "What do you..."
"I’m not here to be a service that you have to pay for," she said. "I just wish to be your companion for the night, no strings attached. Is that not okay?"
Jax’s mind tussled to understand what was going on. "But... why?" he asked. Everyone had been teasing him all day for most likely how he had been last night, had they not?
"Sheena told us about you," the woman said. "How you two did it for hours. She was supposed to stay for just an hour at most, but you somehow made her stay for multiple hours. I wanted to experience that too."
It took Jax a few seconds to register what she really meant. It hadn’t been that they had been teasing him all day for his bad performance. In fact, it had been the exact opposite.
The woman had liked it so much that she had told everyone else about it. That lone fact made all doubts Jax had on himself fade away at once.
When he had no more doubts in himself, he finally understood what the woman was really here for, and with that understanding, there was nothing else there to hold him back at all.
He turned around and locked the door. Then, he whispered.
"Gemma, can you leave for a while?"
Gemma’s giggles faded as she too faded away to wherever it was she went away, leaving Jax to be free to do whatever his heart desired.

Jax woke up the next morning after a wonderful night, well-rested and ready to finally go out on a hunt. Mel had told him where he needed to go to find party members, so he was ready to head over there.
He quickly went down to the hall and had his breakfast. The way the serving women acted around him had an opposite effect on him today.
Jax tried to find if there were parties forming in the tavern hall. Mostly, that seemed to be the case in most instances, but since there were not, he would have to head over to the northern side of the village.
The Oak Village was surrounded by wooden fences all around to keep the beasts away, but the real thing that kept them away were 8 stone monoliths, strategically placed around the village.
The Stone Hermit had created the monoliths apparently, and these stones formed a magic array that kept the beasts out. For humans that wanted to leave, they had to depart from between two stone monoliths to the north, or else they too would be victims to the same magic.
At that point, someone else would have to guide them back to the village.
Jax arrived near the monoliths after a few minutes of walk, and stared at the nearly 10 feet tall rectangular monolith that was a meter wide in all directions.
There were etchings on the monolith that surely had some importance to its activation, but Jax had not nearly any idea as to what it could be.
He could not read those scripts.
There were a few dozen people in that place, scattered into tiny groups, each seemingly searching for some specific type of person.
Jax looked around, searching for groups of 4 that were ready to leave with just one person missing. He wanted to get out of here as quickly as possible.
The first group he met wanted a healer, so Jax moved away. The second one he went to wanted someone who could support from a distance.
Jax could wrap strings from a good distance away, but they were searching for Buffers and Debuffers more than anything, something that Jax could never be.
He finally met the third party, which was looking for someone to just be an additional source of damage.
"What can you do?" the leader of the group, a blond-haired man, asked.
"I fight with an axe, and I have a Spell that can constrict enemies with heavy threads," Jax answered.
"What’s your Navi Stage?"
"4-Star."
The leader thought for a moment and talked to the others in his group. After a few seconds, he turned back around.
"You are accepted," the man said. "Welcome to our Party."
