Single Spell Sorcerer-Chapter 92: Weapon Fortification
Chapter 92: Weapon Fortification
Earth threads were nothing special when it came to what they did.
Wind threads could go invisible, and Poison threads could deal damage. But Earth threads were simply just threads, only stronger.
And that was enough for it.
As the Starving Vulture swept down from the large tree branch, coming down with a beak-attack, Jax dodged it and immediately used his Spell, applying exactly 15 loops around the beast.
He had to keep the number the exact same since he didn’t want to reveal to these people that he had any level of ability to customize it. That sort of spell created questions that he didn’t want to answer.
The vulture tried to fly away, but with its wings wrapped, it could only squirm around on the ground. At that point, killing it was as easy as just stabbing it a bunch of times.
Kaya delivered the final blow by striking it with a bolt of lightning that came out of nowhere.
5 stones floated out of the vulture’s corpse.
The group of fighters looked at each other, unable to fathom what they had just been through.
"That was so easy," Gram said from the side. "Your spell is quite incredible, Jax."
"Thank you," Jax said, walking over to the corpse to start butchering it. So far, whenever they killed a beast, he had immediately started getting parts out of them that he could sell later on.
"I didn’t imagine your spell to be so useful," Sho said. "Although, in your defense, I suppose we didn’t fight beasts that could be stopped with just your spell."
They had fought the treant first, whose vines could escape from all around its body capable of attacking easily. The second beast they fought had been Giant Mud Slimes, to which the threads did nothing.
He had fought other beasts too, but they had been too weak for him to have to use his Spell, so he kept it to himself. And finally, he had met the Starving Vulture, a massive vulture with mostly missing feathers that was thin enough that all of its bones were visible through its skin.
Its incapability to tear through his threads and fly away was exciting.
His guess that Earth threads would be physically difficult to get out of had been correct.
Jax took out the vulture’s heart and liver, which were the only two good things he could keep from it. The rest were more or less unusable in any regard.
"Let us continue," Sho said.
They wandered around the forest, finding more beasts and fighting them. Venomwing Hawks, Cinder Ants, Treehoppers were some of the few beasts they got through. Jax’s spell became the one thing that guaranteed their victory for all but a single one of the beasts.
The Cinder Ants were impossible to stop with just his threads.
The Cinder Ants were a colony of cat-sized ants, with bright red bodies. Whenever their bodies came into contact with something else, their skin reacted, easily burning anything.
Jax’s spell was useless against it. The moment he used it, the threads practically burned away. It took them some time to kill through all of the tiny ants until they were finally done.
Throughout the battles, Jax learned more about the forest and how he was supposed to fight these monsters. At the same time, he also learned about the party he was in as well.
They had been a group of five who had fought together for a while now. However, one of their party members had been an older fellow who had long since entered the 1-Star Emerald stage, so he had decided to leave to find other members with whom he could register.
Had he not done that, he would’ve likely had to stay with these people for another six months before they were ready to leave at all.
The party took short breaks in between a chunk of battles, and during one of the breaks, the leader brought up something interesting.
"Say, Jax. I might be wrong here, but are you sure you’re using your skills during battles?" Sho asked.
Jax appeared confused. "Of course I am," he said. "Why do you ask?"
"I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have doubted you. It’s just that, it looked like your weapon didn’t have any skill applied on it at all, and you were just swinging it around as a regular weapon."
Jax paused for a long moment upon hearing that. "I... I am doing just that."
The other three turned toward him at once, their eyes widening in surprise.
"You aren’t using your Weapon skills?" "Have you been swinging it around with just brute force?" "Why aren’t you using your skills? It’s obvious that you have to use them."
Jax got a little embarrassed upon hearing that. "Actually, I don’t have that skill," he said. "I don’t have a Weapon Fortification skill."
That simple confession left the group in more shock than before. "What? You don’t?" Sho asked. "Have you been fighting your way through the previous carriage with just your brute strength?"
"I have indeed, yes," Jax said. "Is it that bad?"
"It’s... I mean, isn’t it obvious that you should learn Weapon Fortification?" Sho asked, turning toward the others who nodded in agreement.
"Did none of the others ever find out you weren’t using it? Someone should have taught you," Kaya said.
"The others?" Jax questioned.
"Your previous party members," Kaya explained.
"Ah! No, I’ve never been in a party before. I’ve been by myself all this time. The only reason I joined your party at all is because I needed the experience for when I leave this Carriage. Also, I heard the forest might be too dangerous to be by myself."
Jax’s words stunned the entire group, none of whom seemed to know how to reply to such a crazy statement.
"I can’t believe you managed to survive this long all by yourself," Gram said. "But if you really want to go further, you need to learn Weapon Fortification."
Jax shrugged. "I should, but who’s going to teach me?"
"I will," Gram said. "For a small price, I’ll teach you Weapon Fortification."
