Sinner System-Chapter 474: It Isn’t Working
"This is awesome, I finally get to fight a Calamity Level Monster!" Grinned Cleo eagerly, as she paced around with an impatient look on her face.
"Calm down, you’re going to wear yourself out," I responded wryly.
"Nah, I’ll be fine, I feel like I’m absolutely brimming with energy!"
Well, if nothing else, she certainly isn’t nervous. I suppose that’s a good sign.
Today’s the 8th of January, 2171, the following day after the thousands of Dungeons and the Fortress appeared.
The exact number had been confirmed, there were a total of seven thousand three hundred and forty-eight Dungeons.
Of those, five thousand and nine were High Level Dungeons, two thousand one hundred and sixteen were Critical Level and two hundred and twenty three were Calamity Level.
Isla and the other Ace Teleporter were going to be real busy, they’d been assigned to set Teleport Points in the Boss Rooms of the Calamity Level Dungeons, and then have us X-Aces deal with the Dungeon Bosses.
Both Ace Teleporters had each set a couple of Teleport Points in the Calamity Level Dungeons they investigated yesterday, so they’ll first have us deal with those Dungeons, and then go set more Teleport Points in the rest of the Calamity Level Dungeons.
They use a Spell called Set Teleport Point, which they need in order to use the Long-Range Teleportation Spell. They can place Teleport Points in any location they’re in, and then revisit that location from any distance. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
Huh, I wonder if that would work across different worlds? Like, if Isla had ended up in the Monster world with me, would she have been able to teleport us back to Earth?
Anyway, I was currently at the Guild with Cleo, we were waiting for Isla. I was to supervise Cleo across ten Calamity Level Dungeon Bosses and see how she does, and if she’s capable of handling herself against Monsters of that level as she is now, she’ll be assigned to more by herself.
In addition to the Calamity Level Dungeons that have already been tagged with Teleport Points, a number of Q-Ranked and K-Ranked Teleporters will also be at work, teleporting the assigned X-Aces up through the Dungeons and straight to the Boss Rooms.
I summoned and deployed Ira and Acedia, since we’re so lacking in manpower. Aria and the other X-Aces had been sent to take on some of the other Calamity Level Dungeons, I think Jaden is with the other Ace Teleporter.
As for Isla, she should be arriving any sec-...
"Hey, Kai, sorry to keep you waiting. And you must be Cleo Nova, the newest X-Ace, it’s nice to meet you," Greeted Isla with a smile, as she suddenly appeared in my office.
"I-I, um...y-yeah, you too," Cleo nodded awkwardly.
Oh, right, she was publicly announced as the newest X-Ace last night. Given the situation, the HUC determined that we needed some good news to share with the civilians.
While it did cause some buzz online, most people are too preoccupied with the belief that we’re all going to die soon to really care, so it didn’t really work as well as the HUC would’ve hoped for.
"Looks like I’m a few minutes late. Sorry, I was pretty exhausted after yesterday, I overslept a bit," Remarked Isla apologetically.
"Don’t worry about it, you’re barely three minutes late, it’s cool. Now, then, shall we head out right away? You ready, Cleo?" I asked her.
"Huh? Yeah...yeah, I’m ready. Let’s go," She nodded with a smile.
This is a good opportunity for her to get her hands on some Calamity Level Monster Cores, and gain stronger versions of some of her Skills.
She can’t increase her stats anymore, but she’s still got room for growth in that aspect. Honestly, I still don’t think she’s ready for this, but given the situation, we don’t have much of a choice.
And, well, she definitely isn’t complaining, so it’s not like anyone’s forcing her to do this. Now that I think about it, if I were in her position, I’d almost definitely feel the same way she does.
"Gotta say, I like the confidence," Grinned Isla, as she approached the two of us.
"Th-Thanks, I, uh...y-yeah," Muttered Cleo, as Isla stared in bemusement.
"She’s just socially awkward, takes her a while to get comfortable around new people," I explained with a wry smile, as I patted Cleo on the shoulder.
"Ah, I see. Well, don’t worry, Cleo, I’m not one to judge. Alright, let’s link up, I’ll teleport us straight to one of the Boss Rooms I marked," Remarked Isla, as she held out her arms.
"This Dungeon Boss is an Archdemon, right?" I responded, as Cleo and I took hold of her forearms.
"Yeah, it is. Though, compared to those Sentinel Monsters that you and the other X-Aces fought yesterday, I bet Archdemons don’t sound nearly as threatening to you anymore, so they?" She replied with a smile.
"Well, yeah, but it’s certainly not as though I don’t see them as a threat at all. They’re still extremely powerful Monsters, and I’m not about to let myself forget that," I assured her.
"Glad to hear it. Alright, after I teleport you guys there, I’ll teleport back out and set a Teleport Point in another Calamity Level Dungeon. I’ll return after that, take you guys to the next Dungeon, and repeat. Ready?"
"Mhm, let’s go," I nodded.
"Y-Yeah, ready."
"Here we go. [Long-Range Teleportation]," She chanted, before we found ourselves in a Dungeon, a rocky, cavernous terrain.
I turned my gaze to the back of the space, an Archdemon coming into sight, seated on a throne. He sat up and narrowed his eyes at us, as-...hm?
"Uh, Isla?" I frowned, as she stared at her hands with a perplexed look on her face.
"I...I can’t teleport. My Magic, it...it isn’t working."
Huh?
"Weird, the entrance isn’t sealing shut," Noticed Cleo, glancing back.
Is it some sort of Demonic Art, maybe something similar to Nereszu’s Nullification? No, I can still feel the flow of my Mana, so it isn’t that...
"We meet again, Kaivel Intrix."
Hm?
I glanced at the Archdemon as he stood up and stepped forward...huh, that expression...
"Hey, there, it’s been a while, Vaz," I greeted the Demon Lord with a smirk.
