Sinner System-Chapter 491: Best Course of Action
"I see...well, that’s something, at least. But...are you really sure about this?" I frowned, feeling a bit conflicted.
"Yeah, the HUC has made its decision, we were pretty much at a consensus. Seeing how worn out you and the other X-Aces were, we have determined that this is our best course of action," Nodded Lachlan in response.
It was the next day, the 11th of January, 2171, a bit past 8 AM. Aria and I had been in the middle of getting ready to set out for today’s raids, when I got a video call from Lachlan.
As it turns out, one of the Union’s research teams had something of a breakthrough, and factoring that with overwhelming exhaustion of these brutal raids, the HUC has decided to call it off.
For these remaining two and a half days, we won’t be raiding any more Dungeons. There’s also the fact that, even with all the effort we’ve put in, we’ve barely made a dent in the total number of the Dungeons.
We’ve conquered just under half the Calamity Level Dungeons, but the vast majority of the High and Critical Level Dungeons are still up.
There’s just too many to deal with, and nowhere near enough time to do so.
As for our next move, well...the HUC is still working on that. In the meantime, all of us X-Aces have been instructed to rest up, the HUC wants all of us to be at peak condition by the time the Stampedes occur.
"You know, I think I agree with this decision. Especially after the discussion we had at the Guild last night," Chimed in Aria, as she peered over my shoulder.
"Considering how hard you’ve all been working, you’ve more than earned a bit of rest. If you want to get some training in, I suppose that would be fine, but do so in moderation. At the very least, take it easy by tomorrow evening," Remarked Lachlan, before adding, "Alright, I’ve got a meeting with the HUC to attend, so I’ll hang up now. I’ll contact you two immediately if there are any new updates."
As he hung up, I walked over to the bed and flopped onto it, letting out a sigh as I buried my face in the pillow...I have to admit, a wave of relief washed over me just now.
These last few days have been exhausting, so to now suddenly have all this free time...it’s nice.
"Think this is just a ’you’ve only got two or three days left to live, so enjoy yourselves’ kinda deal?" Inquired Aria, as she laid down and rolled over towards me.
"No, he wouldn’t have told us to rest if that was the case, he probably would’ve said something along the lines of go wild or whatever," I pointed out with a wry smile.
Glad the HUC is still operating with the belief that we can win this, despite how slim our chances are.
"Yeah, I guess. So, what do you think we should do?"
"Hm...good question. For the time being, wanna just laze in bed for a few hours?" I suggested with a grin.
"Heh, I was just thinking the same thing, actually."
"Cool. As for after that...how about we meet up with some of our friends? Haven’t seen Ciel and Rex since all these Dungeons popped up, and maybe we could swing by the Diva Guild to see Isla too," I replied after mulling it over.
"Sure, I’m down for that. Oh, and tonight, let’s have sex...like, a lot of sex. Any objections?" She smirked teasingly.
"Nope, none whatsoever."
"Good. We’ve been way too exhausted over the last few nights to do anything after we get home, so now that we have some time on our hands, let’s make use of it."
"Mhm, no arguments here. You wanna get any training done? You still have a lot of work to do with your new Skill, right?" I asked her.
"Actually, I made some great progress yesterday, I forget to mention it because I was so exhausted. Let’s just take it easy for today. Maybe tomorrow morning, we can fit in a training session with Cleo," She replied, after taking a moment to mull it over.
"Alright, works for me. I don’t I’ve made any major improvements, but I’d say my movements and technique have gotten sharper. I’m definitely the strongest I’ve ever been...let’s just hope that it’s enough," I remarked with a grimace.
"Come on, let’s forget about all of that for now. We’ve done enough of that over the last few days, don’t you think?"
"Fair enough. Yeah, you’re right, we should talk about something more positive. Like how cute you are," I grinned, as I patted her head.
"Alright, go ahead. You don’t get all cheesy and stuff that often, so butter me up," She giggled playfully.
"Hm, where to start...think I’ll begin at the top and work my way down. Your hair is the most beautiful shade of red, it’s so pretty and vibrant, not to mention soft and silky. Your skin is so smooth, I love touching you. I love your bright green eyes, they’re absolutely gorgeous. Your soft, perky lips are so enticing, and you’ve got the cutest smile. Whenever you laugh, I feel all warm and giddy," I smiled, as I stroked her cheek.
"O-Okay, maybe let’s leave it at that for now...it’s kinda embarrassing how much detail you’re going into," She replied, before giving me a soft peck on the lips.
"You think so? Because I felt like I could’ve gone into a lot more detail, and I was just getting started...I only covered everything from the neck up, there’s still so much more of you," I responded, as I placed my forehead against hers.
"Yeah, let’s save it for later. Like, say...tonight," She smirked suggestively.
"Alright, sure...I’ll pick up where I left off," I chuckled, before pulling her in towards me and wrapping my arms around her, closing my eyes contently as her warmth enveloped me.
