Chapter 588: Chapter 588: Ominous Presences

"And then, I used Drain to consume his Core. I think that covers everything," I remarked, as I leaned back in my seat with a sigh.

"I see, so that’s how the battle against the Demon Lord went...I can only imagine how treacherous it must have been," Responded Lachlan somberly.

Today’s the 20th of January, 2171, and I was currently at the Union building in Sanctuary Theta, along with Aria and Cleo, making a report on the specifics of what had happened in the Final Dungeon.

The HUC wanted to compile the details of everything that had happened during the final battle, not just in the Final Dungeon, but in the Sanctuaries too.

Ciel had opted out and asked to be given some space for a while, which the HUC had respected.

In addition to myself, Aria and Cleo, Isla was also here. She’d played a major role in minimizing the damage done to Sanctuary Theta, and she apparently also has some interesting info to share.

We were in Lachlan’s office, on a conference call with the other members of the HUC, as well as Jaden.

"Hm...seems we survived this battle by the barest of margins. But survive we did, and hopefully, we’re in for some peaceful times going forward. That said, things won’t quite be the same, and I mean that literally," Spoke up one of the other HUC members.

"What do you mean?" Responded Jaden curiously.

"We’ve been monitoring the flow of the Mana Currents ever since the battle ended, just to be safe. And it hasn’t quite gone as expected. The Mana Currents have stabilized, thankfully, after being severely disrupted by the appearance of the Final Dungeon and the accompanying wave of Dungeons all over the world.

However, the concentration has spiked rather sharply, the quantity of Mana permeating our world has grown a lot more concentrated. Our analysts have theorized that this is because our connection to the world of the Monsters is being severed, which likely means that the boundary between our worlds is repairing itself."

"So, while we are unlikely to ever see Monsters from that world ever again, our world has been changed irreversibly. The Mana Currents are here to stay, they aren’t going to disappear. And they’ve grown much stronger.

There’s no telling exactly what kind of effect this will have, it could be good, and it could be bad, only time will tell," Added another member of the HUC, before continuing,

"Based on our analysis, this increased concentration shouldn’t negatively affect us, though those with lower levels of Mana might feel some discomfort if they venture out of the Sanctuaries, similar to how people struggle to adjust to unfamiliar climates."

"Are the Mana Currents still getting stronger? Or have they settled?" I inquired warily.

"They’re still growing stronger, but the rate at which they’re doing so has slowed drastically. After the Monsters disappeared, the Mana Currents spiked sharply, but the increase in intensity is steadily slowing down, it should plateau and stabilize within the next day or two."

"Another thing, the Mana Currents flowing through the oceans are a lot stronger than those flowing through land. Now, this is only a theory, but...our analysts are under the impression that the Mana Currents on land are weaker because of the Dungeons.

The Dungeons utilized a tremendous amount of Mana to appear in our world, but except for the very start of the Monsters’ invasion, Dungeons don’t appear in the oceans. Thus, the Mana Currents running under the oceans have been able to grow and grow unchecked.

However, since our world is stabilizing now, the concentration of Mana in the oceans are starting to settle too. Frankly, we’ve neglected to properly scan and analyze the oceans in several decades, since we were focused on the Dungeons and Monsters that appeared exclusively on land."

"We’ve been monitoring the oceans a lot more closely over these last few days, and we’ve still got a lot more to assess, but...the results are alarming. We have detected a few ominous presences in the oceans, and confirmed that they’re living organisms.

They possess tremendous amounts of Mana, and while we weren’t able to discern much, it’s likely that these creatures are about as powerful as the Sentinels, at the very least, our analysts believe they’re probably even stronger."

"Uh, so...this might be related to the information I wanted to report," Spoke up Isla, before elaborating, "When the Monsters invaded Sanctuary Theta, I decided to target the Calamity Levels and teleport them to random places on the planet, far away from the Sanctuaries.

One such location was over the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean. Originally, I had planned to teleport each Calamity Level I targeted to a different location. But then, something strange happened.

This massive, massive creature emerged from the water, and swallowed an Archdemon whole. I cannot understate how big this thing was...its mouth was big enough to fit a whole Dragon, and I’m not just saying that, I saw it happen. So, I just kept feeding a bunch of Calamity and Critical Level Monsters to it."

...what? A creature big enough to swallow a Dragon whole?

After the battle, she collapsed and was out for two days, it was Rio Pentand of the Demonsbane Guild, and Damien, who reported her contribution to the battle.

And after she woke up, she was pretty woozy, so was sent home to rest up and recover. So, until just now, she hadn’t made any report of the battle from her perspective.

"Um, what did this creature look like?" Cleo asked her.

"It was like a big snake, with black scales, but I can’t really say for sure. I didn’t even see its entire body, I only saw its head and a bit of its neck. So, I have no idea what it looks like beyond that. It had horns too, I think. And massive, razor-sharp fangs. I definitely saw that very, very clearly."

Hey, Ai...check with Luxuria to see if-...

<Already did>

<And she’s never heard of such a creature in the Monster world>
