Lohan felt firsthand how terrifying the difference was between his lowly Level 3 and a Level 11 monster when he absorbed the spider’s memory, but hearing that Aeliana was only one step away from rising to an even higher level, he was completely shocked.
Even more so considering that with each level, the experience required to level up increased, if this continued, the experience required for her to level up would be 52 million!
Then a memory came back to him.
When Aeliana gave him the Spider Mana Stone a few days ago, he instinctively used [Chemosensory Aptitude] to smell it, and at that moment he smelled an intoxicating scent of something rich in Mana.
The smell was so good that Lohan even lost his mind for a few seconds just by smelling it... almost like when he was affected by the spider’s memory.
Just out of curiosity, he activated that skill again for a split second, just to confirm this theory, and when he activated it, the smell he smelled this time was even more intense.
It was like the scent of an untouched forest right after the rain, mixed with notes of wild honey and the freshness of a pleasant breeze.
Her pure Mana exuded an ethereal sweetness like a perfume of "concentrated life" that filled Lohan’s senses with an addictive serenity.
Every particle of energy that came out of the elf smelled like renewal and calm, acting like a balm that soothed his core and left him in a state of hypnotic ecstasy.
Fortunately, he only activated this skill for a fraction of a second, because if he had left it active for longer, it would have become worrisome, so no one noticed what he had just gone through.
’And that day I was thinking that the intoxicating smell I smelled came from the Mana Stone haha...’
At that moment, Aeliana and Lisa were talking about the adventures the two little monsters had had in the forest in recent days, until finally the subject returned to their feat that had reached her.
"Who would have thought that my little friend would actually be so powerful as to deal with a group of human mercenaries! Elara told me that among that group there was a Level 10 mercenary, a Level 9, and two Level 8s!" She said excitedly as she hugged Lohan a little tighter. "But I already knew you were special from the first time we met, hehe."
Lohan was a little embarrassed by that, especially by the playful look Lisa was giving him as she witnessed the scene, but he didn’t refuse Aeliana either.
She had already shown that she really cared about him before, to the point of even "stealing" from her own master to bring him something valuable (which he knew was probably not so valuable to them), but it still made him feel touched. Now small acts like that no longer irritated Slime.
"It was just luck, I admit I’m stronger than my peers, but if we had to deal with those humans head-on, the outcome of the battle would have been different." Lohan explained, not wanting to take more credit than he deserved.
Their ambush on the humans only worked because there were two elves already attracting their attention and holding the group of four people very well, otherwise Lohan’s clone would not have been able to sneak up on the distracted wizard, nor would Lisa’s attack have gone unnoticed by the high-level group.
Lisa also nodded, agreeing with Lohan’s statement, but Aeliana pretended not to hear anything.
"You don’t have to be modest with me..." She said as she gently placed Lohan on the ground and took something out of her pocket.
Looking at it, Lohan saw what appeared to be two wooden plaques with real details.
Lisa also didn’t understand what it was, remaining quiet and waiting for an explanation.
"These are your Thalendor ID cards. With these, you can enter and leave the city at will, and as long as you show them to any High Elf, your identity as a citizen of Thalendor will be recognized," she said as she handed one plate to the Slime and another to the fox.
But then a problem arose.
Halon was able to form a small hand to hold this ID card, but Lisa was a four-legged fox, she couldn’t hold anything with her hands.
Fortunately, Lohan thought quickly, rolling over to her side and forming another hand on the other side of his round body, using it to hold Lisa’s card for her to see.
The name tag was totally disappointing.
It really seemed to be just a wooden plaque, perhaps slightly larger than a credit card, with a drawing of some kind of coat of arms. This coat of arms was represented by an emerald green ogival shield, adorned with a silver ancestral tree with symmetrical branches that rose like living runes. Between the crown of this tree shines a golden eight-pointed star. A delicate bow and wooden staff crossed in the background, while golden leaves seemed to float around. Above, a crown of intertwined branches held bright green gems.
It was truly a beautiful work of art, but as an ID card it seemed rather useless.
Noticing Halon’s confusion, Aeliana quickly explained. "To mark this card as yours, you must drip a drop of blood..." Then she paused, a little lost as she realized that the slime had no blood, only its blue biomass jelly.
"Perhaps you could drip a little of your jelly? Then the card will recognize you and can be stored in a small spatial pocket connected to you. Each card like this is extremely expensive, given only to people who have contributed greatly to Thalendor, or people of great influence."
"Simply by presenting this card at establishments in Thalendor or to citizens of Thalendor will get you better prices on purchases, thanks to the gratitude people have for those who have contributed to the country."
Upon hearing this, their eyes lit up, but soon confusion arose again.
’What did we do that was worth such a valuable reward?’ That’s what they thought.
In their view, they had only saved a group of two adults who were protecting two children.
Although they could see that the dynamic between them was not that of parents and children, but more like two children and two servants, they just assumed they were saving some rich young people, or at most some minor nobles, after all, they didn’t even have guards protecting them.
’Did those children have some special identity in Thalendor?’ The fox’s eyes sparkled, and the Slime’s eyes didn’t sparkle at that moment only because he didn’t have any.
