Chapter 51: Why didn’t you tell me

"Oh my goodness, Amelia, my love! Where have you been?" he exclaimed, rushing toward her.

The entire room fell silent. The atmosphere shifted instantly... from warm reunion and gratitude to confusion and tension.

Minato blinked twice, processing the word "fiancée." He turned his head slightly toward Amelia, his expression unreadable. Amelia, on the other hand, froze. Her red eyes widened slightly before narrowing again.

"Fiance?" Minato finally muttered out loud, his tone calm and low.

====================

The young man... tall, with long blue hair tied neatly and red pupils glowing brightly, smiled confidently as he approached Amelia. "Yes. I’m Lord Darius McQueen Veshart, heir of the Veshart bloodline, and the one chosen by her father for engagement."

Amelia clenched her jaw. "That was before I left the Blood Continent, Darius. Things have changed."

Darius frowned, his eyebrows knitting together, then he stopped just a few steps away from her. His voice carried a mix of confusion and irritation...

"Changed? How so, my love? You disappeared for weeks, and now you return... I don’t think that changes anything."

Amelia’s eyes narrowed as she looked at him with hatred. "My love," she repeated, her tone filled with disgust. "Don’t call me that. You and I both know why you asked for my hand in marriage."

Darius blinked, starting to lose his composure. "Amelia, what do you mean...? Why are you speaking to me in that tone?" he asked, his voice rising slightly, as disbelief crept in.

Before the tension could escalate further, Minato quietly stepped forward, placing himself slightly in front of her. His tone was calm, but you could clearly see and hear the hostility and anger in his speech pattern. "Amelia," he said evenly, "I’m tired. Is there a room where I can rest?"

Amelia glanced at him, understanding the meaning behind his words. "Yes," she replied almost instantly. "Come with me, I’ll show you."

She began to move toward him, but before she could take another step, Darius’s hand shot out and grabbed Amelia’s wrist tightly...

Minato’s jaw tightened immediately... the aura around him shifted, little blood-red lines moved at the edge of his fingers as the urge to summon his blood axe surged through his body...

But he stopped himself.

Amelia turned her head slowly toward Darius, her expression dark and cold. Then... slap!... she struck his hand away with enough force to make him stumble slightly.

"Do not touch me without my permission," she said, her voice low and filled with disgust. "Unless you want to die!"

The entire chamber went silent. A few gasps came from her sisters.

Darius stood frozen for a moment, his face a mix of shock and humiliation....

His lips trembled before he found his voice again. "Amelia... what’s gotten into you?" he demanded, his tone breaking between anger and disbelief. It wasn’t fear in his eyes... it was wounded pride.

From the far side of the chamber, another feminine voice interrupted the verbal exchange between them. "Amelia, that’s enough."

It was Elizabeth... Amelia’s elder sister. She stepped forward gracefully, her long gown brushing the floor as she moved, her red eyes fixed on them both. "You are standing before the Mistress of Damnation. Show respect.". (Amelia’s mother)

But Amelia didn’t even look her way. Without saying a word, she reached for Minato’s hand, her fingers closing around his grip. She turned around and led him toward the exit door.

Every step they both took echoed throughout the chamber’s marble floors.

Darius watched them leave, his hands clenching tightly at his sides. His face darkened... the anger in his eyes was no longer masked by the calm façade he wore moments ago.

He said nothing, but the tension that hung in the chamber made it clear...this wasn’t over for Minato.

While Amelia and Minato were walking through the hallway. Neither of them said a single word... the atmosphere between them was tense. When they reached the end of the hallway, Amelia stopped in front of a door, pushed it open, and gestured for him to go in.

Minato stepped inside without hesitation. The room was quite beautiful... white walls with gold linings, and red curtains... but none of that mattered to him now because he was completely pissed off...

Once the door closed behind them, he turned quickly and grabbed Amelia gently by the wrist and pulled her closer until his forehead rested against her breast. His voice came out low and strained.

"Why..." he muttered, gripping her arm. "Why didn’t you tell me about him? About the fact that you have a fiancé?"

Amelia froze. Her fingers twitched slightly, but she didn’t move him away. "I’m sorry..." she said quietly, her tone unreadable in the moment.

Minato lifted his head, his eyes filled with frustration. "I didn’t want to believe it at first. But it’s true, isn’t it?"

She looked at him for a few seconds before looking away, her expression calm, but her eyes were heavy, holding her tears. "...Yes. It’s true."

Minato stepped back a little, jealousy across his face. "So all this time... you were engaged to him?"

Amelia sighed softly, brushing a strand of hair from her face. "It’s not what you think, Minato. That engagement means nothing to me... It’s an arrangement between his father and my father."

"Then why hide it?" he asked, his tone louder than he intended. "You could’ve just told me."

"Because," she said, meeting his eyes now, "I didn’t want you to look at me differently."

The room fell silent. Minato stared at her, still upset, but the anger in his voice started to fade. "...I already do."

Amelia’s lips parted slightly, her expression softening. "Minato..."

He looked away, rubbing his temples. "Just... I needed to hear the truth. That’s all."

For a moment, neither of them spoke again. The room felt painfully quiet....

Amelia stood still, her hands trembling slightly at her sides. Her lips parted as if to speak, but no words came out. Then, slowly, tears began to trail down her cheeks.

Her voice wavered as she finally spoke, "You... you hate me now, don’t you?"
