Chapter 168: Chapter 168

Kael’s POV

The afternoon was torture.

Pure, unadulterated torture.

I sat at my desk. Staring at documents that might as well have been written in ancient Greek. Numbers blurred together. Words lost all meaning.

Because all I could think about was her.

Aria.

Right there. On the other side of that glass wall. Close enough to see but too far to touch.

I watched her work. The way she tucked her hair behind her ear when she concentrated. The way she bit her lip when reading something complicated. The way her fingers moved across the keyboard.

Those same fingers that had clawed at my back an hour ago.

My jaw clenched.

*Focus, you idiot.*

I tried. Really tried.

Pulled up the quarterly report. Made it through exactly two paragraphs before my eyes drifted back to her.

She was on the phone now. Talking to someone. Her expression professional. Composed.

Like we hadn’t just fucked against my office wall.

Like she wasn’t still feeling me inside her.

The thought made heat pool low in my belly.

I shifted in my chair. Adjusted my pants.

This was ridiculous.

I was the Alpha. The most powerful wolf in the territory. I had control. Discipline. Restraint.

Except apparently not when it came to Aria Moon.

She laughed at something the person on the phone said. That bright, genuine sound that made my chest tighten.

I wanted to hear that laugh again. Wanted to make her laugh. Make her moan. Make her scream my name until her voice gave out.

*Stop it.*

I dragged my attention back to my computer. Forced myself to actually read the report.

Made it through a whole page this time before looking up again.

She was standing now. Stretching. Her arms reaching overhead. The movement pulled her blouse tight across her chest.

My hands remembered the feel of her breasts. The weight of them in my palms. The way her nipples had peaked under my touch.

I groaned. Dropped my head into my hands.

This was getting out of control.

Maybe I should take a cold shower. Or go for a run. Or do literally anything except sit here fantasizing about my assistant.

My phone buzzed.

I grabbed it. Grateful for the distraction.

A text from Damon: *How’s the new living arrangement going? ;)*

I typed back: *Focus on your own life.*

His response was immediate: *That good, huh? Told you talking would help.*

I set the phone down. Ignored his follow-up messages.

But he wasn’t wrong.

Things were... good.

Better than good.

Like pieces of a puzzle finally clicking into place.

My eyes found Aria again.

She was typing now. Her brow furrowed slightly. Completely absorbed in whatever she was working on.

Beautiful.

Even in her simple work clothes. Even with that serious expression. Even when she was ignoring me completely.

I couldn’t take it anymore.

I stood. Walked to my office door. Opened it.

"Ms. Moon." My voice came out rougher than intended. "Could you come in here for a moment?"

She looked up. Those silver-gray eyes meeting mine.

I saw it. That flash of awareness. The way her pupils dilated slightly. The faint flush creeping up her neck.

She felt it too.

"Of course, Alpha." Her voice was perfectly professional.

But I caught the slight tremor underneath.

She stood. Smoothed her blouse. Walked toward my office with measured steps.

She stepped inside. I closed the door behind her.

Locked it.

The click echoed through the room.

"What did you need?" She turned to face me. Her expression carefully neutral.

I didn’t answer.

Just crossed the distance between us in three long strides.

Grabbed her waist.

Pulled her flush against me.

"Kael!" The protest came out breathless. "We can’t—we just—"

"The door’s locked." I lifted her. Set her on the desk. Stepped between her legs. "No one’s going to interrupt."

"But—"

I kissed her again.

Hard. Deep. Swallowing whatever objection she was about to make.

She melted immediately. Her arms wrapping around my neck. Her legs hooking around my waist.

Yes.

This was what I needed.

Her. Close. Mine.

I pulled back just enough to speak.

"I’ve been going insane all afternoon." My hands slid up her thighs. Under her skirt. "Watching you. Wanting you. Remembering how you felt."

She moaned.

The sound went straight to my cock.

I was just reaching for her blouse when—

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK.

We froze.

Stared at each other.

Another knock. Louder this time.

"Alpha?" Damon’s voice came through the door. "You in there? We need to talk about the northern border situation."

FUCK.

Aria’s eyes went huge. Her face turned scarlet.

I pressed a finger to her lips. *Quiet.*

Then I called out, "One moment!"

We scrambled.

She slid off the desk. Smoothed her skirt with shaking hands. Tried to fix her hair.

I adjusted my pants. Straightened my tie. Took a deep breath.

Tried to look like I hadn’t just been about to fuck my assistant on my desk.

"You good?" I whispered.

She nodded. Still blushing furiously.

I walked to the door. Unlocked it. Opened it just a crack.

Damon stood there. His expression serious.

Then his eyes drifted past me.

To Aria standing by the desk.

Her hair still messy. Her blouse slightly wrinkled. Her face bright red.

His eyebrows shot up.

I opened the door wider.

Aria practically sprinted past us.

"I’ll just—I have work—excuse me—"

She was gone before I could stop her.

Damon watched her go. Then turned to me.

His expression was completely blank.

For about three seconds.

Then he burst out laughing.

"Shut up." I glared at him.

"I didn’t say anything!" He held up his hands. Still grinning like an idiot.

I wanted to punch him.

---

The rest of the afternoon passed without incident.

Mostly because I forced myself to actually work.

And because Aria refused to make eye contact.

Finally, 5 PM arrived.

I grabbed my jacket. Headed for the door.

Aria was already packing up. Moving with careful efficiency.

"Ready?" I asked.

She jumped. "For what?"

"To pick up Lina." I said it casually. Like it was obvious. "School gets out in twenty minutes."

She blinked. "You’re... coming with me?"

"Of course." I held the elevator door. "Why wouldn’t I?"

"I just... I didn’t think..."

She trailed off.

I stepped closer. Lowered my voice.

"I meant what I said this morning. About being part of your life. Part of Lina’s life." I touched her cheek gently. "That includes the boring parts. Like school pickup."

Her eyes got shiny.

"Okay." The word came out soft. Happy. "Let’s go get our daughter."

*Our daughter.*

The phrase hit me square in the chest.

Warm. Right. Perfect.

I turned her to face me.

Met those beautiful silver-gray eyes.

"Will you move in with me?"
