Chapter 75: REAL PARENTS OR NOT?

VINCENZO’S POV

Silence as I entered the house and I had to stop at the entrance to look around.

Where was she this time?

I walked further into the house and called out to her. "Adriana?" I called out, worried, she knew she had problems with her leg, yet she was walking around like she owned the place, and where the fuck was Valentina?

I removed my coat since the weather was getting warm and I dropped it on the couch, my eyes still darting around to see if I would see her.

Just as I was about to lose it, I heard a door open and I saw Adriana come out of the art room, her gaze fixed on me.

My heart immediately stopped pounding out of fear and rather started pounding out of anxiety instead.

"Hey," I said, my voice lower than intended.

She looked a bit surprised to see me but she quickly regained herself. "Sorry, I just wanted to continue looking around the place, is that fine?"

"You know you don’t have to ask for my permission" I muttered.

"Where were you anyways?" She asked, coming closer.

I watched her closely to make sure that she wasn’t limping that badly anymore, and sure enough, she was walking better now. Good.

"Just had to go attend to some stuff, have you taken your meds?"

"Yeah, I have. Valentina made sure I had gotten them before she left to do something"

"Okay, I need to go to the other quarters for something later, but I have a meeting here in a few hours," I informed her.

She didn’t answer me for a split second, and I thought for sure that she was going to scold me for that, but instead, she just nodded. "Okay, that’s fine. What’s the meeting for?"

I gestured for her to sit down on the couch which she did, a heavy sigh leaving her lips as she did that.

I sat down beside her, careful to leave some space between us as I didn’t want her to feel uncomfortable. "Okay, so it’s about the Bratva. They’re in Italy, and they’re ruining our business technically, and if there’s one thing that can bring the families together, it’s an external force that seems to want to take control over stuff," I explained to her.

Her eyes darkened at the mention of the Bratva and I wondered why she was behaving like that. "The Bratva... how would I know if someone was one of them?"

"There’s a tattoo, why?" I asked confused.

She just shrugged and leaned back against the couch. "Oh, no reason, I was just curious to know," She muttered.

"Okay," I muttered, looking at her weirdly. "Go get some rest. The leg should be good enough to walk by tomorrow"

At that, she looked up at me with blank eyes. "You know, you’re really acting like I got my leg blown off or something; it’s just a simple wound which just hurt that I couldn’t walk properly for a while. It’s not that much of a big deal" She huffed.

"I know it’s not much of a deal, but I just can’t afford to get distracted by that, which is why I would prefer if you took care of yourself so I don’t have to worry," I muttered, getting up from the couch.

"Where are you going?" She asked, crossing her arms, a questioning look on her face. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞

I had no idea why I was about to do this, but I had begun to have my doubts about something else, and I needed to be sure.

"Grace’s quarters" I reminded her.

"Is there something you’re doing there? Does this have to do with the Bratva?" She asked, an eyebrow raised.

"Yeah, you could say that" I refused to dive into it.

Suddenly I wanted to know something about her father. The man was working for the Bratva, I was sure of it, maybe he started working for them recently but I knew he was with them. After all my years of spying on the man, I knew that he didn’t originally start out to be a member of the organization, so it was a recent thing, but yet his indifference towards Adriana still unnerved me.

Why would he make the world believe he was dead? Why would he let his enemies go after his daughter?

"Tesoro..." I spoke up, my tone unsure.

She didn’t seem too happy to be answering my questions as she scrunched up her face. "What is it?"

"I need to ask you something... you said you were searching for your father; you’re stopping; why?" I asked curiously.

She visibly stiffened and her expression became guarded as she didn’t know why I was asking her that. "Why do you wanna know?"

"It was in our contract, wasn’t it?" I reminded her calmly, my tone a stark contrast to the turbulent storm inside me.

"I just decided to leave the past alone; I mean, a lot has been happening now, so I decided to leave that aside now and continue later," She muttered under her breath.

I looked at her for a minute, trying to see if she was bullshitting me, but her expression remained the same.

"Get some rest; I need to go meet Grace before it’s time for our meeting," I informed her.

As she stood up and walked upstairs, I also walked out of the mansion, tired now due to the fact that I hadn’t gotten proper rest for a few days now but I pressed on to Grace’s quarters on my property.

Immediately I knocked, she opened the door, her face bright as usual as she led me inside. "Don Enzo, I’m still looking into what you told me yesterday," She said, leading me to her tech room.

The place I had designated for her was perfect for her job, and I had supplied her with everything she needed for her job.

"Suspend that one. I have a new task for you" I told her as soon as she led me into the room where she did her work.

Several monitors were on and some codes that I didn’t bother to cast a second glance at were on the screens.

She slid into her seat, tapping at something on her keyboard. "What do you need my help for?"

"Find Adriana’s father or mother"

She paused and looked over my shoulder. "Lord Rossi?" She asked to be sure.

"No" I forced the words out of my mouth. "Her real parents"
